Chapter 295 Scam Call
As night fell, Scarlett was just about to go to bed when she got a call from the police station. The police on the other end sounded serious, "Hello, Mrs. Russell, we need you to come to the station to pick up your niece, Phoenix. She's been detained for disturbing public order."
Scarlett was taken aback and quickly puzzled.
How could this be? Phoenix was supposed to be at work. How could she be detained by the police? This must be a scam call!
"Who are you? I don't know any Phoenix!" Scarlett snapped, her tone dripping with disdain. Then she hung up.
"Seriously, these scammers don't even rest at night! Now even scammers are getting desperate! Disturbing my rest! Damn it!" Scarlett muttered to herself, clearly annoyed.
The more she thought about it, the more irritated she became. She put on a face mask. As the cool mask touched her face, Scarlett sighed in comfort.
"I can't let such a silly call ruin my mood." Scarlett closed her eyes, ready to continue enjoying her evening.
She decided she would ask Phoenix about it tomorrow to get to the bottom of this.
"That girl just got back to the country and isn't used to all these scam calls yet. I'll remind her to be more cautious tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Phoenix was enduring a long and painful night at the police station.
She was locked in a cold, damp cell, with dark, wet walls around her. The wind blew through the cracks, making her feel unbearably cold. Her stomach had been growling for hours, but the station provided no food, and no one cared about her situation.
'How did I end up in this mess?' Phoenix thought, filled with regret over her previous schemes.
Throughout the long night, a strong sense of hatred began to grow in Phoenix's heart.
She angrily thought, 'It's all Isabella's fault! If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have been arrested. She's clearly in cahoots with the Stuart Group. Why would George believe her over me? She must have bewitched him!'
Phoenix gritted her teeth, vowing silently, 'I will expose Isabella's true identity and make her pay for this!'
What made Phoenix feel even more desperate was that the police didn't believe her identity. Despite her repeated claims that she was George's cousin, the police scoffed at her, thinking she was lying.
"You're just a fraud. Don't try any tricks here!" one police said coldly, his eyes full of contempt.
"I'm not a fraud! George and I are family!" Phoenix pleaded desperately.
"Mr. Russell doesn't know you."
Phoenix explained, "Then call Scarlett. She's my aunt. Tell her I'm Phoenix, and she'll come for me!"
"I already called. She said she doesn't know you," the police laughed, munching on his takeout. "Just because you share a last name with Mrs. Russell doesn't mean you're family. I don't know what's wrong with young people these days. It truly is a whimsical thought. You need to be more grounded!"
The police left with his takeout, not wanting to waste more time on it he saw as a hopeless case.
Phoenix's phone lay quietly nearby, its screen flashing with missed call notifications, but no one responded.
Meanwhile, Scarlett, after finishing her face mask, had called Phoenix multiple times, but no one answered. Since Phoenix had mentioned meeting some friends after returning to the country, Scarlett assumed she was out having fun and wasn't worried.
"This girl, always staying out so late," Scarlett muttered, slightly annoyed but not too bothered.
'I'll ask her about it when she gets back,' Scarlett thought, putting her phone aside and preparing for a bath.
Meantime, to show her gratitude, Emma decided to treat Sophia to a lavish dinner at the Russell Villa and personally cooked a delicious meal.
Emma busied herself in the kitchen, skillfully chopping and frying, filling the room with enticing aromas. She thought about Sophia's preferences, trying to make dishes she would enjoy.
"Hope she likes it," Emma murmured to herself.
Soon, the table was filled with a variety of mouth-watering dishes: Macaroni and Cheese, Chili Con Carne and Meatloaf. In addition, fried chicken was specially prepared for Lucas. Each dish was made with Emma's heartfelt effort.
When Sophia walked into the dining room and saw the spread, her eyes lit up.
"Emma, you're amazing! These dishes look so good!" she exclaimed, smiling brightly. "I had no idea you could cook like this."
"After spending years abroad with no decent food, I had to learn to cook myself. Come, try it," Emma invited warmly.
As they sat down, Emma served Sophia, carefully asking about her tastes. Sophia couldn't stop praising the food. "This is delicious; the flavor is incredible!"
Just then, Lucas, who had gone to bed early, came running in wearing his pajamas.
"Mom, can I eat too?" He was still a bit sleepy, but the smell of the food had woken him up.
"Of course, but it's late, so just a little, and you'll need to brush your teeth afterward," Emma smiled, serving him some Fried Chicken. "Eat slowly; don't rush."
Lucas happily sat down, devouring the food with a satisfied smile.
"Mom, this is so good!" he exclaimed between bites, completely absorbed in the delicious meal.
Watching the interaction between Isabella and Lucas, Sophia felt a wave of emotion.
She saw that Isabella was not only an excellent designer but also a caring mother. Every time Isabella served Lucas or showed concern for his eating, it was a natural expression of her love.
