Chapter 22 Framed Again
Emma woke up the next day, feeling groggy. The first thing she noticed was someone gripping her wrist tight. She blinked, trying to shake off the dreamlike haze, and felt her cheeks heat up.
George, sensing her stir, opened his deep-set eyes.
"Hey, you're finally awake!" George said, relief washing over him. He noticed the blush on Emma's face and thought she might have a fever. Nervously, he reached out to feel her forehead.
Not trusting his hand, he pressed his forehead against hers to check her temperature. The warmth of his breath on her face made Emma feel like she was about to combust, fever or not.
"George," she croaked, her throat dry and sore.
"Hold up, don't talk yet. Here, have some water." George poured a cup of warm water, adjusted the hospital bed, and gently brought the cup to her.
The sweet, cool liquid slid down her throat, reviving her. But George's tender care made her feel like she was still dreaming.
Seeing her dazed and cute expression, George smiled slightly but also felt a pang of regret. He almost missed out on the girl he knew since they were kids.
He had a million questions, but since Emma had just woken up, he didn't want to bombard her. The priority now was to make up for his mistakes and win back her heart.
He held Emma close, and she leaned into him.
"When did you get pregnant? Why didn't you tell me?" His voice was softer than ever.
Didn't tell him? How could that be? She had sent a text, and George had replied, even telling her to get an abortion. For a moment, Emma doubted her own memory and was stunned.
George thought she was upset and didn't want to talk about it, so he didn't push. He fed her some soup to fill her stomach and then let her lie down to rest.
Emma felt her eyes well up.
She lay quietly on the bed, a relieved smile on her face. George was finally paying attention to her.
Was it because he suddenly reminded of their past promise? Or was he feeling guilty because she almost had a miscarriage?
Whatever the reason, Emma felt happy.
George, being the company president, was busy with work. It was already work hours, and his phone rang several times, indicating he had received many messages.
George glanced at Emma, and she smiled warmly, gently pushing him away. "You've got a ton of messages this morning. Go handle your business, George."
George squeezed her small hand, feeling the warmth, and reluctantly walked out of the hospital room with his phone, heading to the emergency exit.
But just as George pushed open the fire door and entered the emergency exit, he heard Anna's voice.
"Doctor, is what you said true? Please, don't tell George about this!"
George's expression changed slightly, and he discreetly moved closer to the source of the voice, discovering that Anna was talking to Emma's attending physician.
The doctor sighed, "Honestly, lying like this is against medical ethics. Emma is really out of line. She pretended to be pregnant and used fake blood to fake a miscarriage scare. When we found out, she even threatened us with her life to help her deceive George. It's unbelievable!"
"Emma is really too willful. I can't believe she would threaten you with her life to make you lie to George! Doctor, I apologize on her behalf."
"I don't mind, but George is the one who's really unlucky. This fake pregnancy will be exposed sooner or later," the doctor said, turning to leave.
Anna caught up to him and said, "Doctor, please don't mention this to anyone, especially George. I'm afraid if he finds out, he'll kill Emma."
The doctor sighed helplessly. "You all handle this yourselves. Anyway, Emma is perfectly fine and can be discharged anytime."
