Chapter 144 Tracking
"We also felt like someone was tailing us," Emma's heart raced as she quickly told Mia what was going on.
"We gotta be careful; it might be the same person behind all this," Mia's voice was calm, with a hint of amusement. "Think it could be Anna?"
"Hard to say. Just stay alert. If we get the chance, we'll catch her and find out. But safety first," Emma said, then turned to Michael. "Are your bodyguards close by? Can they nab the people following us?"
"Piece of cake." Michael called his bodyguards, gave them a quick rundown, and then swiftly turned the car into a narrow alley that was almost deserted and had a complicated layout, perfect for their plan.
"We'll wait here for that car to follow us in," Michael said in a low voice. "Then we'll grab them."
A few seconds later, the black sedan slowly rolled into the alley and stopped behind their car.
Michael made a quick decision. "You two stay in the car, don't get out."
Emma and Seraphine nodded and stayed put while Michael quietly got out, hiding behind the car to watch the followers. As the door of the black sedan opened, two burly guys got out, looking around cautiously.
From the car, Emma and Seraphine saw several strong bodyguards emerge from the shadows and surround the followers with Michael.
"Who are you? Why are you following me?" Michael demanded.
The surrounded men looked panicked and tried to break free, but the bodyguards held them tight. Their lips trembled, but they didn't say a word.
"Don't waste time. Speak up!" One bodyguard's voice turned harsh, his hand pressing down hard on one of the follower's shoulders, causing him intense pain.
The follower stayed silent, his eyes filled with fear and unease. The bodyguard decided to get rougher. He punched the follower hard in the stomach, making him double over in pain.
"Still not talking?" the bodyguard coldly threatened.
After a few more punches, the follower finally couldn't hold back, gasping in pain, his eyes showing despair. "Alright, I'll talk! Mr. George Russell sent me. He wants to know where you are!"
"George?" Emma's heart skipped a beat, as she didn't expect it to be him.
"I was hired by him. I don't know what he wants. He just told me to keep reporting your whereabouts," the follower stammered, clearly terrified. "I won't follow you anymore. I'll leave now."
The followers tried to run, but the bodyguards held them in place. They couldn't move and could only beg for mercy with tearful faces.
The bodyguards looked at Michael, waiting for his decision.
Michael coldly said, "Keep following us and report our movements as planned. I want to see what he's up to. Alright, you can go."
The followers thanked them repeatedly, utterly confused by these rich folks. But they had no choice but to follow Michael's orders and continue tailing him. After two days of tailing, nothing happened. Emma and Michael were still clueless about what George was up to.
Mia found out through Kirk that the guys following them were George's men.
For the past couple of days, every little disturbance had Emma calling Mia. They were chatting about going out for dinner one night. While discussing what to eat, they both mentioned pizza from the same pizzeria at the same time.
Even though Mia and Emma had been tight for years, such a coincidence was still hard to believe, making them suspicious. Suddenly, Emma had an idea. "Mia, do you think he's using you to test me?"
"What do you mean?"
"He knows we're close. If I was dead, and you suddenly saw someone who looks just like me at the pizzeria, how would you react? But if you know I'm still alive, you wouldn't be surprised when we meet. George could judge based on your reaction."
"Yeah. But could George really come up with something that clever? If he was that smart, would he have been fooled by Anna for so long?"
Emma didn't answer and just sighed. She couldn't figure it out either.
George should be way smarter than the average person. But why would someone so smart be manipulated by Anna? Was he willingly being fooled? Was he blinded by love?
Actually, besides Emma, George was even more deeply deceived by love.
After hashing out their plan, Emma and Mia decided to "accidentally" meet at Crispy Crust Pizzeria in Starlight Plaza that evening.
That night, Emma took Seraphine to Starlight Plaza, the bright lights making it look like daytime. The plaza was packed with people, and the store signs flashed colorful lights, creating a lively and cheerful vibe.
"Mom, let's go to that toy store!" Seraphine pointed to a toy store ahead, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Alright, let's go see what toys you like," Emma responded with a smile, while mentally calculating the timing of their actions.
Meanwhile, the followers quickly reported everything to George over the phone. He sat in his office, fingers tapping lightly on the desk, his expression unchanged.
"They went to Starlight Plaza," the followers reported.
"Good, keep an eye on them," George coldly ordered.
Emma finally went to Starlight Plaza. Their destination tonight was likely Crispy Crust Pizzeria, a place Mia and Emma used to love.
To jog their memories, George had the followers place a bunch of noticeable pizzeria flyers along the routes they frequently traveled. He was trying to spark their interest in the pizzeria without them knowing.
The person following Mia reported that Mia had already sat down with friends at the pizzeria. Now, all that was left was for Isabella to walk into the pizzeria and meet Mia.
Then he would know if Isabella was really Emma.
