Chapter 490 Near Death

The nurse frantically dialed George's number. "George? Your grandpa Charles is vomiting blood. You gotta get to the hospital and sign the critical condition notice!"

Charles had two emergency contacts: George and Jack.

With Charles in critical condition, the nurse had to notify all emergency contacts as per protocol.

She dialed Jack's number, but the line was busy. Several attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.

Inside the hospital's emergency room, the lights were blinding, and the doctors were working tirelessly to save Charles. George rushed to the hospital, his anxiety making it hard to stay calm. He rushed to the emergency room, where medical staff were bustling around, creating a tense atmosphere.

"How's my grandpa?" he asked urgently.

"We're still trying to save him, but his condition is not looking good," the doctor replied gravely, then handed over the critical condition notice. George's heart sank. He bit his lip hard and forced himself to sign the notice, his hand trembling slightly.

Furious, he called Jack and Scarlett. "Get to the hospital now! Grandpa's in trouble, and the critical condition notice has been issued. Don't waste any time!"

On the other end, Jack's voice was filled with panic and unease. "I'm on my way!"

He had to be there to hear Charles's last words, lest his cunning brother George monopolize Charles's estate. Phoenix, who had also received the call, left the mansion of a prominent figure and headed to the hospital.

She had poisoned Charles, and after all this time, he was finally on the brink of death.

Time slowly passed in anxious waiting. The doctors were busy in the emergency room, while George's anxiety and anger intertwined outside.

Hours later, Charles's life was successfully saved, but his condition worsened. He was now completely paralyzed, a vegetative state. Charles lay in the hospital bed, his face pale and lifeless, completely unconscious.

At this moment, the entire Russell family gathered at the hospital, waiting outside the emergency room for the final outcome. The doctors had nearly given up hope for Charles; without a miracle, he was unlikely to wake up again.

George glanced at his relatives, who were all eager for Charles to pass away.

Charles, once the authority of the Russell family, now lay helpless like a broken doll.

George's emotions were complex, filled with anger towards Jack and helplessness towards the tragedy. But what could he do? The ruthless power struggle had already begun, and no one could avoid it.

"George, shouldn't we start preparing Charles's funeral?" a relative asked.

"Why the rush? Don't talk nonsense; my patient isn't dead yet!" At that moment, Micah appeared outside the emergency room, looking exhausted.

His hair was disheveled, and dark circles under his eyes were prominent, clearly from sleepless nights researching medication.

Micah's arrival caused a stir, and everyone turned their attention to him, hoping for news.

"Mr. George Russell asked me to find a specific medicinal ingredient, and I finally did. After a lot of effort, I've developed a special medication for Mr. Charles Russell's condition, and it can be used immediately!" Micah pulled out a few pills from his pocket, his eyes filled with anticipation and urgency. "This medication could greatly improve his condition, maybe even help him recover!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the room erupted. The Russell family members split into factions. Some immediately stood up, vehemently opposing, "No way! What if Charles dies from the medication? We can't take that risk!"

Others also opposed the medication, but their reasons were less straightforward.

Seeing Micah's attire and demeanor, they guessed he was the mysterious doctor from Lakeside Haven. His medications were always effective. If Charles improved, they wouldn't get his inheritance!

This medication must not be given to him!

The arguments grew louder, descending into chaotic disputes. Everyone's inner desires were laid bare, and the situation had shifted from life and death to a family feud over interests.

George watched the scene unfold, feeling speechless and angry. His brows furrowed, a mix of frustration and disappointment rising within him. He thought to himself, 'Has the love in this wealthy family really been reduced to mere interests and calculations? Grandpa is gravely ill, and everyone's reactions are so disheartening. Is there no one who truly cares about him?'

"Stop arguing!" George finally shouted, trying to break up the quarrel. "Grandpa's life is the most important. Stop causing trouble!"

He continued, "Dr. Porter, listen to me. Treat him!"

"Got it!" Micah pried open Charles's mouth and placed the white pill under his tongue, administering it sublingually.

"Now, let's witness a miracle!" Micah said.

Time ticked by, and the tense atmosphere spread through the room. The Russell family members waited quietly, filled with hope and anxiety. However, after a moment, Charles's condition remained unchanged. He lay there, unresponsive.

The family's anxiety grew.

Eventually, the air became stifling, and Jack, unable to bear it, stood up abruptly, breaking the silence with anger. "What's the point of having this incompetent doctor here? My dad hasn't woken up! Get him out of here!"

Jack's voice boomed, breaking the stalemate and instantly sparking a wave of agreement. Others started shouting and accusing.

Micah smirked. "Give it a little more time, okay? Medication takes time to work once ingested! What's the rush? Wait!"

These words did nothing to ease the anger, instead making Jack even more furious. He slammed the table and shouted, "Time? This concerns our entire family! You're just letting my dad lie here. Where's your conscience?"

"I think you're the one lacking a conscience." Micah casually pulled a yellow pill from his torn pocket and flicked it into Jack's mouth. "Here, have something good."
