Chapter 309 Meeting
Scarlett let out a cold snort and abruptly hung up the phone.
She tossed her phone onto the couch with a heavy thud. Isabella wasn't someone she could push around; she was a powerful CEO. Scarlett felt an unprecedented sense of defeat, but more than that, she was filled with discontent and anger.
Meanwhile, in Emma's office, her secretary knocked gently on the door and walked in.
"Ms. Taylor, Mrs. Russell just called. She wants you to meet her at The Russell Mansion tomorrow at 3 PM," the secretary reported succinctly.
Emma looked up, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. "She finally couldn't hold back."
The secretary asked, "Ms. Taylor, do you want to see her?"
Emma smirked, "Of course, I'll see her. Since she's reaching out, I'll have a good chat with her."
The secretary nodded. "Do you need me to prepare anything for you?"
"No, I'll handle it myself. Just make sure my schedule is clear tomorrow and that no one disturbs me."
The secretary nodded again and left the office.
Emma's gaze returned to the window, her smile lingering.
The next afternoon at 3 PM.
Emma stood at the entrance of The Russell Mansion, her eyes calmly scanning the familiar yet strange building. She took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy, carved wooden door. In the hall, Scarlett sat on the couch, holding a cup of tea, her expression cold and disdainful.
"Isabella, you're here," Scarlett said, her tone indifferent and condescending. "Have a seat."
Emma smiled slightly, walked over to the couch, and sat down, her eyes meeting Scarlett's without a hint of evasion. "Mrs. Russell, what can I do for you?"
Scarlett was about to lose her temper but suddenly remembered that she had insisted Isabella not call her "Mom." She had no reason to get angry. Emma watched Scarlett with a mocking smile, waiting for her to make a move.
Scarlett set down her cup, her eyes filled with scorn. "Isabella, now that you're the CEO of the Russell Group, your attitude has become arrogant. As your elder, I have to make an appointment just to see you, right?"
Emma replied indifferently, "Mrs. Russell, you're exaggerating. I've been quite busy lately with company matters. If you need to see me, you can call me directly, and I'll arrange a time as soon as possible. Didn't I come here today?"
Scarlett's face darkened slightly, her tone tinged with displeasure. "Is that how you talk to your elders? I'm your elder, and this is how you speak to me?"
"Mrs. Russell, I respect you as an elder, but I also hope you respect me. As the CEO of the Russell Group, my primary duty is to the company. If you have any issues, please state them directly."
"Isabella, don't think that just because you're the CEO, you can disregard me! The Russell family is not yours to control!"
Emma's smile widened, her voice carrying a hint of sarcasm. "Mrs. Russell, you're right. The Russell family isn't mine to control. But the position of CEO of the Russell Group is one I earned through my own efforts. If you have any complaints, you can take them up with the board."
Scarlett stood up abruptly, her voice filled with uncontrollable anger. "Isabella, how dare you treat me like this! Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you're the CEO? Let me tell you, the Russell family will never accept a daughter-in-law like you!"
Emma also stood up, her gaze even colder than Scarlett's, her voice resolute. "I never sought the Russell family's approval. If you can't accept my presence, then none of my business."
Scarlett's face turned dark. "Isabella, you're out of control! I will never let you stay in the Russell family!"
"You don't need to worry about that. I never intended to stay in the Russell family. George and I never even registered our marriage. The Russell family has nothing to do with me."
With that, Emma turned and walked towards the door.
"Isabella, if you walk out that door, don't ever think about coming back!" Scarlett shouted, and Emma actually stopped.
Scarlett thought she had finally threatened her, but before she could feel triumphant, Emma's next words shattered her illusion.
"Of course, I won't come back. I almost forgot, I came here today to tell you two things. First, the Russell family's assets are now mine. But out of respect for Grandpa, this mansion can stay with you."
The atmosphere in the Russell Mansion's living room was so tense it was suffocating.
Scarlett could hardly believe what she was hearing. Her fingers gripped the armrest of the couch tightly. "Isabella, how dare you take over the Russell family's assets? Do you think being CEO gives you absolute power?"
Emma's smile grew. "I can't wield absolute power. In the Russell family, you had absolute control, allowing Anna to torment your daughter-in-law Emma to death. She married your son, not to be your slave."
Scarlett retorted, "Our family matters have nothing to do with you."
"True, but the Russell family's assets now have nothing to do with you." Emma pulled out a stack of contract copies and threw them on the floor. "These contracts have transferred all the Russell family's assets to me. Your objections are futile."
"Isabella, you're ruthless! Why are you doing this? You're George's wife, why do you want to destroy the Russell family?" Scarlett was hysterical.
"Good question. That's the second thing I wanted to tell you." Emma stepped closer to Scarlett, making her look directly at her face. "Look closely! Does this face look familiar? Do you remember what my life was like in the Russell family three years ago? When I had stomach pains, you forced me to drink spicy soup, making me vomit blood, and you still felt disrespected. When I was framed, you spread rumors that I stole things. Do you remember all that?"
"You are..." Scarlett took a step back in disbelief and said.
"That's right, I'm Emma, the one who supposedly died three years ago. I survived and came back. Everything you owe me, I'll take back."
Scarlett's eyes were filled with shock and disbelief, her voice trembling. "Impossible! How can you be Emma? She is dead! You must be an imposter!"
At that moment, Charles slowly descended the stairs, leaning on his cane.
"I knew I wasn't mistaken. You are Emma." Charles beckoned to Emma. "Come here, let me take a good look at you."
Scarlett looked at Charles in disbelief. "Dad, you knew she was Emma all along? Why didn't you say anything? Are you just going to watch her destroy the Russell family?"
He sighed, "The Russell family owes her far more than you can imagine. Three years ago, you know what you did to her. Now, she's back to take the Russell family's assets, and it's only fair. You were cruel to her before, and now you're facing the consequences."
