Chapter 50 I Want a Divorce

The vibe in the car was like a ticking time bomb, ready to blow any second.

Emma tried to keep it together, staring George down. "George! Even if you don't buy my story, what about Grandpa? He's seen it all. If I was really that bad, why'd he let me marry you and treat me well while ignoring Anna?"

Emma thought George might actually think it over, but nope. His face twisted with anger, and he sneered, "You think Grandpa's trust covers your crap? You know damn well you stirred up trouble between Grandpa and Anna!"

"I didn't!" Emma's voice shot up, her hands shaking. She wanted to explain, but George cut her off, harshly.

"Shut it! Emma, don't play dumb. We're going to see Grandpa right now, and I'm gonna show him who you really are." He yanked her wrist so hard it hurt, dragging her towards the car door. Emma's heart pounded, and she tried to pull away, but it was useless. She had no choice but to follow, silently praying Charles would get her side of the story.

"George, listen to me!" She tried again, but George wasn't having it and kept dragging her towards the Russell Mansion. People on the street stared, and Emma felt like the whole world was watching her humiliation.

When they got there, the security guard saw George and stepped aside respectfully. Emma's heart raced, thinking about Charles's face, hoping to clear her name.

"Grandpa, I brought Emma!" George's voice boomed in the big living room.

In the middle of the room, Charles sat on the sofa, looking serious, his eyes sharp as he scanned everyone, especially Anna and Scarlett, like he was reading their souls.

Emma met Charles's gaze head-on, no fear.

She didn't do those things!

Unlike Emma's confidence, Anna sat there with tears in her eyes, while Scarlett comforted her.

Seeing Emma, Scarlett jumped up and pointed at her, yelling,

"Emma, how can you be so evil! You even go after little kids. What did Anna ever do to you? Three years ago, you stole Anna's boyfriend, and now you want to hurt her kid. You're beyond wicked!"

As she spoke, she raised her hand to slap Emma.

"Stop!" Charles's voice was like thunder, shutting everyone up.

Emma felt a wave of relief; she hadn't expected Charles to stand up for her.

"Grandpa..." George frowned, clearly shocked by Charles's stance.

"Emma is my granddaughter-in-law, and I won't let anyone harm her!" Charles said firmly, his gaze like a knife, aimed at Anna and Scarlett.

Scarlett, confused, said, "Dad, you're still siding with Emma? If it weren't for her, Anna would've been your granddaughter-in-law years ago. She even had a kid for our family, and she's been through so much. You have to support her!"

Scarlett almost thought Charles had lost it!

Anna thought the same but played it softer.

"Charles, I don't expect to be your granddaughter-in-law. I had the child for George willingly, and I don't want to fight with Emma. I just hope you can stop Emma from hurting Lucas anymore."

Charles's tone was sarcastic, "I only acknowledge the child Emma gave birth to. She is George's wife."

Anna hadn't expected Charles to still back Emma. Her face went pale, her lips trembling as she said, "Charles, you can't be so biased towards her!"

"Of course, I'm biased," Charles sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "You barged into their marriage, had an illegitimate kid, and flaunted it. Our Russell family doesn't need a granddaughter-in-law who lacks self-respect and dignity."

"Charles, I..." Anna stammered, trying to defend herself, but Charles's words left her speechless.

"Dad, you can't say that. It was Emma who interfered first; she's the mistress! If it weren't for her scheming against George, Anna and George would have been married long ago! And she even kidnapped Lucas; you can't just ignore that!" Scarlett was all in on Anna's side. After all, Anna was from the Stuart family. If George married her, the Russell family's status in Lakeside Haven would skyrocket!

"I didn't kidnap Lucas, and three years ago, I wasn't the one who framed George. I was a victim too," Emma explained, but it seemed like no one cared.

Scarlett glared at her fiercely. "That guy Tom confessed everything! Three years ago, you wanted George so bad you framed him into sleeping with you? And the reporters caught it all. You planned everything! Emma, you're the most despicable woman I've ever met!"

"That Tom was bribed, I don't even know him," Emma said firmly, her voice steady and fearless.

"I believe you, Emma." Charles nodded slightly, a hint of relief in his eyes. Then, with a sneer, he looked around the room. "Your prejudice and ignorance disappoint me."

Emma felt a warm surge in her heart, her eyes glistening with grateful tears. She knew Charles's support was her lifeline in this family.

But she had already lost hope in this family and in George.

She looked at George, her gaze unwavering, followed by a bitter smile.

"Charles, thank you for your trust and support. I'm not cut out to be your granddaughter-in-law. I've made up my mind; I want to divorce George."

Emma's words left everyone stunned.

George's eyebrows furrowed, and he looked at Emma with a mocking expression.

His face darkened, his deep, unfathomable eyes staring at Emma like he wanted to devour her.

Anna, on the other hand, was overjoyed; she finally had a chance to take her place!

Scarlett couldn't wait to chime in, "Dad, since she's asking for a divorce, you should agree."

But Charles ignored her and instead extended his hand to Emma, saying, "Come here, Emma."

Anna's face darkened with anger, while Scarlett looked extremely embarrassed. They even suspected that Charles was under Emma's spell; otherwise, why would he be so biased towards her?

Emma hesitated. She felt that since she had decided to divorce, she shouldn't drag it out. But Charles was so warm, and his smile so kind.

Emma couldn't refuse; she walked over to Charles's side.

Charles looked at Emma kindly and asked, "Do you really want to divorce George and no longer be his wife?"

Was there even a need to answer this question?

If she didn't divorce, she would be beaten to death.

Love was precious, but life was more valuable. For the sake of life, love could be sacrificed!

Emma nodded and replied, "I'm not worthy of such a noble Mr. Russell."

With Charles's support, Emma finally dared to mock George. Even if she got beaten later, she had to say it. As soon as she finished speaking, she felt a cold air hit her, and she could sense the chill coming from George.

The once defiant Emma couldn't help but shiver.

Charles nodded at her words, glanced at George, and then spoke with a humorous smile, "So, in the days after this noble Mr. Russell was forced to marry you, did he ever sleep with you?"
