Chapter 280 Backing

After they arrived at the home. The house was quiet, with only the small figure on the couch catching her attention.

Lucas was sound asleep on the couch, a sweet smile on his face, as if he were having a wonderful dream.

"Lucas," Emma's heart softened as she gently called his name.

"Why didn't he go back to his room?" George whispered, a hint of tenderness in his eyes.

Emma walked over and picked up Lucas. He stirred slightly in her arms, sleepily opening his eyes. Seeing it was Emma, he closed them again and snuggled closer to her.

"Mom," Lucas murmured, his voice filled with dependence and warmth.

Emma's heart melted instantly. She gently stroked Lucas's hair, feeling the unconditional love and warmth.

George stood nearby, witnessing the scene, feeling a wave of warmth in his heart.

He watched the closeness between Isabella and Lucas, feeling a mix of emotion and regret. No matter what Isabella had done to the Russell Group or what she might do to the Russell family, as long as she stayed, George would always protect her!

George had a bold idea in his mind: Isabella was Emma. But he wasn't sure yet; he needed a chance to confirm it.

Emma carried Lucas to the bedroom and gently laid him on the bed. She sat by the bedside, quietly watching Lucas. If her daughter were still alive, she would be about Lucas's age.

Where was her daughter?

Emma stared at Lucas's face, lost in thought. As he grew older, Lucas looked more and more like George. But for some reason, Emma couldn't see any trace of Anna in Lucas's face, as if Lucas and Anna were two unrelated strangers.

Was Anna so mean to Lucas because he didn't look like her?

Emma couldn't guess Anna's thoughts.

But a woman as venomous as Anna would treat her own child just as heartlessly.

Lucas wasn't sleeping deeply. With the movement, he woke up, rubbing his sleepy eyes, confirming once again who was holding him.

It wasn't a dream. The person holding him was really his stepmother, Isabella.

"Mom, we have a performance at school tomorrow, and they want both parents to attend. Can you and Dad come?"

"Of course!" Emma pinched Lucas's soft cheek.

A smile finally appeared on Lucas's usually expressionless face.

"Thank you, Mom."

He had a mom now. He wasn't a motherless child! His mom wasn't a murderer; she was a super talented designer! Tomorrow, he would tell all his classmates that he had a mom!

The next day.

The school performance was about to start. Lucas changed into his suit, holding his violin, filled with anticipation for his upcoming performance.

He knew George and Isabella were sitting in the audience. He wanted to show them his best. However, as his classmates gathered around, the atmosphere suddenly became tense.

"Look, that's the murderer's kid!" one child pointed at Lucas, a mocking smile on his face.

"He doesn't have parents, how sad!" another child chimed in, and the surrounding kids started jeering and laughing.

Lucas's face turned pale, and his violin trembled in his hands. He tried to lift his head to retort, but his classmates' laughter drowned him out.

Just as the kids were about to grab Lucas's violin, Emma suddenly appeared in the crowd. She walked forward without hesitation, standing in front of Lucas.

"Hey! Knock it off!" Emma's voice cut through the noise, drawing everyone's attention.

"Who are you?" one kid sneered, eyes full of defiance.

"I'm Lucas's mom," Emma said firmly, her gaze unwavering as she looked at the children. "And from now on, you are not allowed to bully him anymore!"

At that moment, George also walked over, standing beside Emma.

His face was serious, his gaze sharp as he looked at the children surrounding Lucas.

"If you don't want your parents to lose their jobs, don't mess with my son!" George's voice was low and powerful. "If this happens again, none of you will be welcome in Lakeside Haven."

Facing a group of kids, Emma and George could only say a few harsh words, but it was enough to move Lucas.

The kids looked at each other, clearly intimidated by George's authority. Though they were still dissatisfied, they didn't dare to continue provoking.

A chubby kid wanted to say something but was pulled away by a smaller kid.

Emma and George ignored their small actions, but they had already remembered these kids.

It seemed they needed to have a talk with the school.

"Let's go, Lucas," Emma said softly, turning to look at Lucas with gentle eyes.

Lucas's eyes sparkled with tears as he felt Emma's support and warmth. He tightly held his violin, lifted his head, and looked ahead with determination.

"Thank you, Mom," Lucas said softly.

"We're family, no need to thank me."

As the performance time approached, Emma and George accompanied Lucas to the stage. Although the earlier incident had unsettled Lucas, their support gradually calmed him.

"You'll do great," Emma encouraged.

George didn't say anything, but his eyes were full of expectation.

"I'll do my best!" Lucas nodded firmly, filled with courage.

When he stood on the stage, holding his violin, facing the audience, a strong sense of confidence surged within him. Lucas knew that no matter what happened, he had their support and love.

The performance ended brilliantly.

But just as Lucas received a round of applause, some discordant voices emerged.

"Who let this brat sneak into our prestigious school? Mr. Franklin, I think this kid with an unknown background should be expelled! I heard his mom is a murderer. I can't let my child be in the same class as a murderer's kid!"

The hall fell silent.

Lucas's identity at school was almost a secret, but some people knew, including rivals of the Russell family, who spread rumors to let everyone know that Lucas's mom was a murderer.

Children's malice was the most terrifying.

Already unpopular, Lucas was isolated once again.

Now, this matter was exposed in such a setting, and the whole school knew.

Hearing that, Lucas couldn't stop his tears.

His mom wasn't a murderer.
