Chapter 446 Farewell Letter

Anna didn't lose her will to survive. In fact, a spark of triumph lit up her eyes. As George's figure disappeared down the hallway, she began to quietly plot.

"Hey, officer!" Anna called softly. The guard put down his paperwork and turned around, slightly wary.

"What do you need?"

"I need a favor."

"What kind of favor?"

"I want to write a letter."

Anna sat in the corner of her cell, the faint light from outside filtering through the bars and casting shadows on her pale face. She clutched a piece of paper tightly, her fingers trembling slightly, while her mind rapidly concocted a dark and thrilling plan.

Before she faced her execution, she wanted to write a letter to Emma.

"I must make her believe that George's heart always belonged to me," she whispered to herself, a smug smile playing on her lips. Despite the looming death sentence, a twisted confidence burned within her. "Even if I'm gone, Emma must suffer endlessly."

She began to write, her handwriting crooked but resolute.

[Dear Emma,

Given your hatred for me, you might never open this letter. But I hope that when you do, you will pause and calmly read everything I have written. I know you have deep feelings for George, but I want to tell you that in his heart, my place is irreplaceable.

He once swore eternal vows to me, and our child, Lucas, is the bond between us. You may find it hard to accept, but a paternity test doesn't lie. Lucas will never be your child; he is the product of our love.

I hope you take good care of Lucas and protect him from any harm. It's not my intention to break up your family, but I want you to realize that George's heart always has me in it.

In his heart, I am the woman he loves most. You can never replace me in his eyes.

I know these words might make you angry or even despair, but I write them hoping you will see the truth and stop clinging to unrealistic fantasies. You should learn to let go, cherish yourself, and live your life to the fullest, rather than being a burden to him.

Most importantly, George will definitely save me. He won't let me die.

Take care of yourself.

Anna]

Anna finished the last line, her eyes gleaming with determination. She rolled up the letter and handed it to the guard, a meaningful smile on her lips, as if everything was under her control.

"It's done. Send it out. Give it to Joseph and have him pass it to Emma." Her tone was half pleading, half commanding.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure it gets delivered," the guard replied, expressionless.

Anna smiled with satisfaction, her eyes reflecting a sick confidence. Even in dire straits, she could manipulate others' fates.

Emma left the prison, her mind in turmoil. She didn't want to return to George's mansion but had nowhere else to go.

In the end, she decided to visit the hospital to take care of Charles.

Pushing open the door to the hospital room, she saw Charles lying in bed, still weak but looking much better. He smiled at her, instantly warming her heart.

"Grandpa, I'm here!" Emma crouched down and gently held Charles's hand, feeling his warm touch, a wave of happiness washing over her. Charles's smile grew brighter, as if all his pain had vanished in that moment.

"I brought you your favorite fruit." She took out the apples she had prepared from her bag, excitedly showing them to him. "You need to eat more! It'll help you recover faster." She cut a small piece and gently placed it by his mouth.

Charles smiled and took a bite, seemingly comforted by her kindness, his eyes full of affection.

"Take good care of yourself, Grandpa." She reached out and stroked Charles's hair. Charles nodded earnestly, as if assuring her he would.

As she was tenderly caring for Charles, the door suddenly opened, and Michael walked in by mistake. He looked confused, then quickly apologized, "Sorry, I think I walked into the wrong room."

Michael's confusion transformed into surprise and then concern when he saw Emma. His attentive gaze fell on her, instinctively wanting to check on her well-being.

In that moment, Emma felt a warmth, as if a light had pierced through the darkness in her heart.

"How have you been?" Michael leaned against the doorframe, asking with genuine concern.

Emma's heart stirred, feeling the care in his voice, deeply moved. However, guilt quickly followed. She didn't want to complicate her relationship with Michael, her mind still occupied with thoughts of George, unable to let herself develop feelings for Michael.

"I'm fine," she whispered, trying to stay composed, but unable to hide the bitterness in her heart.

Michael sensed Emma's low spirits but didn't press her to talk. He stayed quietly in the room, offering her a silent warmth. Emma's thoughts often drifted back to Charles, noticing his uncomfortable posture.

"Grandpa, do you want to adjust your position?" Emma asked gently.

Charles nodded slightly.

Emma tried to move Charles but couldn't change his position, feeling increasingly helpless.

"Need some help?" Michael stepped forward, offering assistance. However, Charles seemed displeased, glaring at Michael with anger, clearly not wanting him too close.

Ignoring Charles's protest, Michael smiled challengingly, his eyes threatening: If you dare complain, I won't be kind.

Charles rolled his eyes, unable to speak, mentally cursing Michael to stay away from Emma.

And of course, he silently cursed George for being useless.

As Michael helped adjust Charles's position, he accidentally strained his injured arm, wincing in pain.

"You're hurt!" Emma exclaimed, her eyes filled with concern and worry.

"It's nothing, just a minor injury," Michael forced a relaxed smile, but couldn't completely hide the pain on his face.

At that moment, the hospital TV was broadcasting news about a jewelry design competition. The reporter detailed Phoenix's cheating scandal and mentioned Michael's brave act of shielding Emma from a knife at the event.

"So it was that day, you got hurt protecting me," Emma said, shocked, her eyes welling up with tears. A mix of guilt and gratitude overwhelmed her, leaving her speechless.
