Chapter 247 I Protect You
"I know, car accidents are scary," Emma said softly, gently stroking Lucas's hair. Her voice was gentle. "But we made it through, and that means we're lucky."
"But I still don't get why it happened," Lucas said, lifting his head slightly, his eyes glistening with tears. "And before that, my mom... she..."
Lucas didn't finish his sentence, but Emma knew what he wanted to say.
He couldn't grasp why other mothers would protect their children, but Anna wanted him gone.
"Sometimes, things happen that we can't control," Emma explained gently, her heart full of love for Lucas. "But you need to know, even if you don't have your mom, you still have your dad, your grandparents, and lots of people who love you."
Her voice was warm like a spring breeze, gently comforting Lucas's heart. Emma continued, "Close your eyes and imagine a beautiful place. There are your favorite toys and your favorite food. I'll be there with you."
Listening to her, Lucas slowly closed his eyes, starting to imagine that warm place. Emma softly described it to him, "In that place, the sun is shining, flowers are blooming, and you can play with the animals and laugh as much as you want."
"Is there really such a place?" Lucas asked, a hint of hope in his voice, as the tears in his eyes began to fade away with the warm imagery.
"Of course there is. I'll take you there someday," Emma smiled, her heart full of tenderness.
With Emma's gentle words, Lucas's mood gradually calmed, and the tension on his face slowly eased. Emma continued to soothe him softly, "You're a brave boy, and I'm proud of you. Now, relax and slowly drift off to sleep."
Emma began to hum a lullaby softly, adjusting Lucas's blanket gently.
In Emma's warm embrace, Lucas's breathing became steady, and his eyelids grew heavy. Emma watched him as he slowly fell asleep, her heart filled with relief and love. She kissed Lucas's forehead lightly, silently praying that he would find peace and happiness in his dreams.
"Goodnight, Lucas," Emma whispered, her heart brimming with love and protection.
As she looked at Lucas's thin little face, Emma also fell into a deep sleep on the hospital bed, her face showing a hint of tired peace. Lucas curled up beside her, quietly snuggling, as though he could sense the comforting warmth of a mother even in his dreams.
Meanwhile, George had received the news about Emma and Lucas's car accident, and it hit him like a sledgehammer. Despite having a fever and feeling weak, he couldn't suppress his worry and rushed to the hospital.
By the time George arrived at the hospital, it was late at night.
The hallway was quiet, with only the occasional sound of footsteps and the ticking of machines. He hurriedly found their room, pushed open the door, and saw the two of them lying quietly on the bed. His heart finally relaxed.
"They're both asleep," George murmured to himself, feeling a wave of heartache. He walked to the bedside, carefully observing Emma's face, noticing her slightly furrowed brows, as if she felt a bit uneasy even in her sleep.
"Isabella," he called softly, his voice full of concern and tenderness, but she didn't wake up.
George sat by the bed, quietly watching over them.
He gently held Emma's hand, feeling her warmth, and a sense of comfort washed over him. Despite his own discomfort and splitting headache, all he wanted was to be by their side, protecting their peace.
The night deepened, and the room remained quiet and warm. George's gaze stayed on Emma's face, filled with tenderness and gratitude. He felt sorry for her suffering and grateful for her fierce protection of Lucas.
As for the mastermind behind the car accident, George wouldn't let anyone off the hook.
Of course, his first suspect was Anna.
"Isabella, you have to get better," he whispered, his voice filled with endless affection and care.
George stayed by them, quietly feeling their breaths, his heart full of warmth and reassurance. Despite the chaos outside, in this small hospital room, there was only the deep bond and understanding between them.
As the night passed, the sky outside gradually brightened. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on Emma's face, as if wrapping her in a warm halo. George squinted slightly, feeling a bit tired, but his heart was full of hope.
"Good morning, Isabella," he said softly.
He hoped she would wake up this morning and see him by her side.
Emma's eyelashes fluttered slightly before she slowly opened her eyes. She saw George sitting by the bed and looked a bit surprised.
"George, you're here," Emma's voice was weak but filled with warmth.
"I've been here, waiting for you to wake up," George's eyes shone with tenderness, his heart full of relief.
Emma smiled faintly. She knew that George's heart was entirely devoted to her. As soon as he heard she was in danger, George would definitely come.
Since George had fallen in love with her, it was now her turn to take control.
George had no idea what she was thinking. He only saw her lost in thought, and his heart was full of love. He leaned down and gave her a gentle good morning kiss. The kiss was as warm as the morning light, making Emma's heart race.
At that moment, Lucas woke up on the other side of the bed, rubbing his eyes. When he saw the scene, his eyes widened in surprise.
Emma was startled by Lucas's sudden awakening, and her face flushed even more. She stammered, "Lucas, it's not what you think."
"It's okay, Isabella. A good morning kiss is normal," Lucas said nonchalantly, even showing support. "I really want Dad to marry you soon and make you my mom."
Emma's face turned even redder, and she couldn't help but laugh. "Lucas, you little rascal; how do you come up with these things?"
"Because I want a mom like you!" Lucas said earnestly, his eyes full of hope. "You're always so kind to me. I want you to stay with me forever."
George was also surprised by Lucas's behavior. Lucas had never spoken so much in front of him.
He had always thought Lucas was just naturally quiet and reserved. But it turned out, he just hadn't meet the right person.
With Isabella, Lucas was always a bit more lively.
