Chapter 68 Second Blood Donation

The paper's edge sliced into Emma's face like a damn saw, leaving a nasty mark. Her old wounds split open again. With all the new and old injuries, she couldn't tell if her heart or her face hurt more.

Blood splattered near George's feet. He stepped back, disgusted, shot Emma a cold look, and turned away without a care.

Emma was used to George's crazy behavior by now. Like a puppet, she stood by the wall, lost and empty, as pages from her diary flew around, filling the small space.

On one of the scattered pages, Emma saw her own handwriting—[George, I finally saw you again...]

As she looked, Emma started laughing. Then, she started crying.

Tears ran down her bleeding wounds, following the curve of her chin, and finally merged into a drop of bloody water that fell onto the diary page, landing on that single sentence.

Her George was completely dead in her heart.

Emma walked into the hospital, her face throbbing with pain, the festering sores making her feel sick.

She took a deep breath to push down the discomfort and headed towards the emergency room. Just as she reached the door, two nurses rushed past her, looking worried.

"Hurry, Mrs. Stuart is about to go into surgery!" one nurse said urgently. "But the hospital is out of rare blood types. If something goes wrong, who's gonna be responsible?"

"Appendicitis surgery usually doesn't result in heavy bleeding unless there's an unexpected complication," the other nurse reassured. "But Mrs. Stuart's condition is terrible; she needs surgery immediately!"

Emma's heart tightened, and she quickly turned to catch up with them. "Excuse me, is the Mrs. Stuart you're talking about Sophia?"

"Yes! Who are you?" The nurse glanced at Emma. "If you have any questions, go to the front desk. We're busy here!"

Without waiting for a response, the nurses hurried away, leaving Emma standing there, anxious.

Emma's body trembled slightly, a wave of unease washing over her. She ran towards the blood donation center.

But before she could get there, she heard Anna's sharp voice from a distance, "What kind of hospital is this? Why is there always a blood shortage? First, it was my son. Now it's my mom. Are you targeting me on purpose?"

Emma's heart tightened. She quickly approached, seeing Anna arguing with a nurse like a madwoman, while her foster mother Olivia looked on with disdain.

"You better pray the surgery goes well. If anything happens to my mom during the operation, I'll have my fiancé sue this hospital into bankruptcy!"

The nurse, head lowered, timidly replied, "Ms. Stuart, you're Mrs. Stuart's biological daughter. Your blood..."

Before the nurse could finish, Olivia snapped, "Come on! You always ask family members to donate blood! Anna's period hasn't ended yet. If something happens to her, will you take responsibility?"

Another period? Last time, when saving Lucas, Anna said she couldn't donate blood because of her period.

But it had been half a month since then. Anna's period still hadn't ended? That didn't make sense.

So the truth must be—Emma didn't want to donate blood at all.

She didn't want to save her son, nor her mother. Could such a cold-hearted person really exist?

After Anna and Olivia left, cursing, Emma ran over without hesitation. "Nurse, I want to donate blood. Please arrange it for me."

The nurse looked up at her, a flash of surprise in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. "Alright, please follow me." She led Emma to a small room, which was fully equipped, the smell of disinfectant filling the air.

"Her own daughter doesn't give a damn, but here you are, being all kind," the nurse muttered, clearly fed up with Anna's crap.

Emma couldn't quite figure out why she felt this strong pull to help Sophia; maybe she just wanted to be close to her.

She settled into the blood donation chair, heart racing and palms sweaty. The nurse started disinfecting her arm, the cold alcohol making her shiver. Emma watched as the nurse prepped the equipment, silently praying for Sophia's safety.

"Relax, it'll sting a bit," the nurse said softly, then gently slid the needle into Emma's vein. Emma winced at the sharp pain.

As the blood bag filled, Emma felt the blood slowly draining from her body. A warmth filled her heart, even as her body grew weaker, her resolve stayed strong.

"One pint, that should do it," the nurse's voice broke through. Emma felt a wave of relief, like she was injecting new hope into life. But as the blood flowed out, her body started feeling weak, her limbs heavy, and her head dizzy.

Seeing her pale face, the nurse asked, "You okay? Need to rest?"

"I'm fine," Emma gritted her teeth, fighting to stay conscious, but her vision blurred, and the sounds around her faded. Her body was drained, but her mind was still on Sophia.

"Here, drink some water. Don't worry, appendicitis is usually a minor surgery," the nurse said, handing her a cup of warm water. Emma took it with trembling hands and sipped slowly. The water brought a bit of warmth, but her body still felt like it was about to collapse.

Emma didn't leave right away; she waited for news about Sophia's surgery.

Suddenly, Anna and Olivia came rushing towards her. It felt like a gust of wind as a man strode briskly by her side.

Anna called out, "Dad, you're finally here!"

It was Sophia's husband, Henry Stuart. Seeing his tall, steady figure, Emma felt a pang of sadness. How great would it be to have a dad like that?

"How's your mom doing?"

Anna, almost in tears, said, "There was a complication during the surgery. Mom's bleeding heavily, and they're trying to save her..."

Emma's heart skipped a beat. Wasn't this supposed to be a minor surgery? How could there be complications?

Henry's face changed, and he ran towards the operating room, leaving Anna standing there.

Emma heard Anna muttering, "Where do all these rare blood donors come from? It happened once before, and now it's happening again..."

Clearly, she was pissed about the blood donors.

Emma was furious, but she didn't have the energy to argue with Anna. Her body was feeling unwell again, with a throbbing pain at the site of the tumor, tugging at her nerves in an indescribably distressing way.

Emma habitually searched for her painkillers but suddenly stopped. George had destroyed her painkillers.

She endured the physical pain, waiting for the surgery results.

The nurse, who had almost been brought to tears by Anna, ran over to her excitedly. "Miss, you can rest easy now. Mrs. Stuart is out of danger. Thanks to your blood donation, otherwise Mrs. Stuart might not have made it."

Emma felt a wave of relief. Thank goodness, Sophia was safe.

Just as she was about to let out a sigh of relief, an extremely displeased voice came from behind her.

"So it was you."

Emma turned to see Anna's arrogant face.
