Chapter 174 The Murderer is Isabella

As the van sped up and made a sharp turn, Emma's body tilted. She saw an opportunity and adjusted her position, trying to make noise by hitting the car door. She needed to leave clues for Mia to track her.

"What are you doing?" one of the gang members noticed and turned to look at her.

"Just trying to get comfortable," Emma said.

The van bumped along a secluded road. It had been an hour since she was kidnapped. She missed dinner with Mia, but Mia hadn't called, which could only mean one thing: her phone had been tossed. Still, Emma stayed calm; she had a professional locator on her.

She'd been wary of Anna's intentions, so she bought the locator just in case. Once her disappearance was noticed, her friends could track her down.

As long as she found that person, Mia could take both of them out together.

The car finally stopped, and the gang members quickly opened the door and dragged Emma out.

"Hurry up; don't dawdle!" one of them whispered harshly, while another pushed her towards an abandoned building.

The iron door at the entrance made a heavy sound.

The door, though worn, had almost no dust near the handle, indicating it was frequently touched. Emma suspected that this might be one of Nightfall's hideouts.

This meant that the person she was looking for was very likely also being held here. The thought brought a glimmer of hope to Emma's heart, but she still needed to maintain a facade of fear.

"Let go of me! Where are you taking me?" Emma's shout echoed weakly in the empty hallway.

Annoyed by her slow pace, the gang members dragged her into a dark room. The walls were moldy, and the floor was covered in dust and debris. Emma was pushed to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Emma couldn't help but cough violently. She didn't waste her energy screaming but instead tried to calm herself, quietly observing her surroundings.

The iron door was sturdy, and the lock was solid, but she noticed a small window in the corner. Although it was barred, it let in a faint light.

At that moment, Emma heard low voices outside, the gang members discussing something. She held her breath and listened intently, trying to catch more information.

"We need to hurry; our employer doesn't want to wait too long," one of them said, making Emma's heart tighten as she realized time was running out.

"You keep an eye on her; don't let her escape. I'll go for backup," another member responded coldly.

"Why don't you just call?"

"Are you stupid? We turned on the signal jammer. How can I call!"

Upon hearing this, Emma's heart sank. It turned out the kidnappers had activated a signal jammer, blocking her locator signal, so no one knew she was here.

It seemed this time, she miscalculated.

Emma started checking out the tools she had. With the signal jammer messing up all the comms, she knew she had to get out of its range for her locator to kick in. If she could manage that, Michael would come to save her. So, figuring out a way to escape this creepy building was top priority.

Emma also wanted to search the building directly, but her strength alone was too insignificant. Since she now knew the location of the hideout, she was certain she could find that person!

The room had this tiny window with iron bars. No way she could squeeze through, but maybe she could use it to send a message.

She climbed up on some old boxes to peek outside. The place was deserted, but she saw people passing by now and then.

Emma had been snatched on her way home from work. She only had a simple bag, but even that was gone now, tossed somewhere by her captors.

She needed to find something useful to get a message out.

So, she started rummaging through the musty room. There was a small bed in the corner, and the blanket on it was gross and falling apart.

Emma thought about lifting the blanket to see if there was anything under the bed. To her shock, as soon as she did, she found a woman curled up and shaking.

Emma yanked the blanket off, and the woman's eyes went wide with fear. She screamed, freaking Emma out and alerting the kidnappers outside.

"Shut up!" one of them yelled angrily.

Emma looked at the woman in front of her with surprise; the kidnappers had actually locked them in the same room. This was perfect—Emma no longer had to go through the trouble of searching. The woman had come right to her.

She quickly lowered her voice and covered her mouth. "Don't scream. I'm not a bad person!"

The woman's big eyes filled with tears, staring at Emma in fear.

Emma only let go after the woman calmed down and whispered, "Are you Aurora Bright's sister?"

Although Emma had already confirmed her identity, she asked just to be sure.

The woman nodded weakly. "I am. Are you here to rescue me?"

"I'm not only here to rescue you, but I'll also help you get revenge," Emma said, her voice filled with a persuasive tone.

Elizabeth Perez looked at her in surprise and asked, "Why?"

"Because we have a common enemy."

A few years ago, when Anna was still in college, she had bullied a classmate named Aurora. Unable to bear the humiliation, Aurora jumped off a building and ended her life. Since she had signed an organ donation agreement while she was alive, her corneas were donated.

The recipient of the donation unexpectedly discovered that she was related to the donor, Aurora. After some investigation, the recipient found out that Aurora was actually her biological sister, who had been taken by enemies at birth and lost contact ever since.

Years later, they finally found Aurora, but it was too late; she had already become a corpse.

To quell the incident, the school claimed that Aurora had accidentally fallen. But Elizabeth didn't believe it. Perhaps it was a sibling's intuition, but she always felt there was more to the story and continued to investigate.

The more she failed to find clues or discrepancies, the more convinced Elizabeth became that something was amiss. The matter had been wrapped up too neatly, indicating deliberate tampering.

Just when her investigation hit a dead end, she received a message from Emma. [If you want to know the fact of Aurora's death, come to Lakeside Haven.]
