Chapter 226 Bullying
"Make sure you do well in school today, okay? Don't make your teacher worry," her voice was gentle, like a caring mother's. Lucas was stunned, overwhelmed by confusion. He even doubted if last night's nightmare had really happened.
"Y-yeah," Lucas stammered in response.
He didn't know how to handle this sudden change, as if Anna had become a different person overnight.
In the car, Lucas sat in the back seat, his mind still haunted by the fear and pain of the previous night.
The scenery outside the window sped by, sunlight streaming through and warming his face, but he felt no warmth at all.
As the car pulled into the school gates, a sense of unease welled up inside Lucas. He got out of the car and glanced back at Anna sitting inside, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
Her smile and gentleness confused him, making last night's demon seem like just a bad dream.
"Hurry up and get to class!" Anna urged, and Lucas could only lower his head and walk silently towards the school.
Lucas had always liked school. Despite being isolated and ridiculed by his classmates, the school was a refuge for him. It was a place away from George and Anna's constant arguments, Anna's harsh punishments, and the endless dark storage room.
As long as he stayed quiet and didn't cause trouble, he wouldn't be bullied or beaten, and he wouldn't get any new scars.
But his peaceful school life was destined to be shattered.
Anna had already paid some older students to specifically target Lucas at school.
Just as Lucas stepped into the bathroom, a group of older students suddenly surrounded him.
"Look who's here, the little loser!" they mocked, shoving Lucas around. He wanted to escape, but they blocked his way.
"Hand over your money, or you won't be leaving!" one of the older boys said coldly. Panic surged through Lucas; he knew he was no match for them. He lowered his head and silently handed over all the money in his pockets.
"Ms. Parker, I'm being bullied," Lucas went to his teacher after leaving the bathroom.
But she just responded indifferently, "Why do they bully you and not others? There must be something wrong with you!"
Her coldness left Lucas feeling utterly abandoned once again. He wondered why they bullied him.
He suddenly remembered Anna's gloating look before he entered the school. Did Anna deliberately send these bullies to torment him?
Lucas walked out of the office in a daze. Was there no one in the world who liked him?
Lucas suddenly thought of Isabella. He muttered to himself, "If Isabella were my mom, I wouldn't be bullied, right?"
As the school bell rang, the bullies were already waiting at the gate. Seeing Lucas walk out, they immediately surrounded him.
When Lucas saw the bullies, he no longer felt sad. He had accepted his fate. Some people are born to be cherished by their parents, but he was born to suffer.
Lucas didn't resist; he just quietly took the beating, letting the bullies do as they pleased.
He thought that fighting back would only make things worse, so why bother?
The bullies tore at Lucas's clothes, the sound of ripping fabric filling the air. His shirt was quickly shredded, revealing his frail body.
"Look at this little loser!" they mocked, rummaging through Lucas's backpack, taking his allowance, and tearing up his books. Lucas curled up helplessly on the ground, enduring their abuse.
The bullies kicked Lucas relentlessly, causing him intense pain all over his body.
Lucas couldn't remember how he got home; he only remembered the malicious look in Anna's eyes when he walked through the door, more vicious than the bullies.
"Lucas, enjoy your last night on earth!" Anna said, savoring her wine.
Lucas ignored her and headed to his room.
"Is everything set?" she asked.
A voice from the other end of the phone reassured,"Don't worry, Ms. Stuart; everything's arranged."
Anna hung up the phone. Tomorrow, she would make sure Lucas was dead.
The next morning.
Lucas woke up from hunger. He slowly opened his eyes to find the entire mansion eerily quiet. He sat up, looked around, and then wandered downstairs through the living room. Everyone was gone, and the mansion felt especially empty, with only him inside.
The empty rooms made him feel incredibly oppressed, and a sense of unease rose in his heart.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Lucas walked to the door and looked through the peephole. Outside, a few unfamiliar students in school uniforms stood, apparently his classmates, but Lucas didn't recognize them.
"Lucas, open up! Ms. Parker sent us to bring you your homework!"
"Homework?" Lucas felt a bit scared. He remembered his teacher once said not to open the door for strangers.
But his textbooks and homework had been destroyed. Could it be that Ms. Parker knew and sent new ones?
Despite feeling he shouldn't open the door, Lucas clung to a last shred of hope in Ms. Parker and slowly opened the door.
"Thank you, just give me the homework," Lucas stammered.
But reality dealt Lucas another blow.
As soon as the door opened, the group rushed in, quickly grabbing Lucas. They covered his mouth and nose, making it hard for him to breathe.
They dragged him out, and Lucas's body grew weak from struggling. He didn't know where they were taking him or what would happen next.
As he was dragged away, countless thoughts flashed through Lucas's mind.
But he never thought anyone would come to save him.
Lucas was taken to a black van. The van door opened, and they shoved him inside, plunging the world into darkness.
After the van drove off, Anna emerged from the mansion's shadows, smiling with satisfaction.
A few minutes later, Emma received a call and hurried to The Russell Villa.
A message from an unknown number had just come through: [I'm Lucas. I miss you, Isabella. I hope you can come over and keep me company.]
Emma found this suspicious; Lucas had never contacted her directly before.
When did Lucas find out her number? Who told him?
He was just a kid without a phone. Whose phone did he use to contact her?
Emma felt something was wrong.
