Chapter 96 Allergies
Emma was in pure agony inside the villa.
She was clueless. George had set it up so Anna would blind her, and now he was acting like he was trying to find a doctor for her.
Did he really expect her to show up at his engagement party with Anna? How could George be so heartless?
George held Emma, placed her on the sofa, and asked the maid, Freya, to whip up a bowl of Seafood Chowder. The sweet aroma soon filled the entire villa.
George personally served a bowl and brought it to Emma.
He had Freya add a ton of shellfish to the chowder since he remembered Emma liked it. She must have liked the taste.
When the food was brought to Emma, she did smile, though faintly.
George was thrilled. He blew on a spoonful of the chowder to cool it down and brought it to Emma's lips.
"Emma, try it."
Emma opened her mouth and drank the spoonful of chowder with a smile.
In the past, Emma had always hoped George would take a sip of the Seafood Chowder she made, but he never did. Today, George was willing to feed her personally.
Emma, mixed with tears, took sip after sip. The bitterness of her tears mingled with the slight sweetness of the seafood.
Her already battered stomach began to churn and twist. Soon after, Emma felt her eyelids swell, and her skin became unbearably itchy.
It was an allergic reaction.
Emma was allergic to shellfish. The reason she often made Seafood Chowder was that she always knew the person who loved it was George.
Emma's skin broke out in large red rashes, and her mind became somewhat unclear.
In a daze, she seemed to hear a group of people barging in.
"George, today is your engagement day with Anna and everyone is waiting for you. why are you stll here?" It was Sophia's voice.
"What are you doing? You're with that bitch Emma again? How can you do this to Anna!" Scarlett was there too.
"Mr. Russell, the best ophthalmologist from Lakeside Haven is here." It was Willie.
"What are you giving her? Don't you know she's allergic to seafood? An allergic reaction can worsen her tumor! Are you trying to kill her?" Billy was here too.
Billy was also one of the best ophthalmologists in Lakeside Haven.
"What tumor?!" George stared at Billy in disbelief.
How could Emma and the word tumor be connected?
Emma had never been healthy. Her face was disfigured, she had miscarried a child, and she was even blind. And now, Billy was informing him that Emma had a tumor.
"As Emma's husband, you didn't know she had a tumor?" Billy wanted to vent the frustration he had long harbored, but now was not the time.
Emma's allergic reaction was severe and needed immediate medical attention! Otherwise, she would die of asphyxiation.
"What are you waiting for? Get her to the hospital!" Billy barked, directing the nurses to bring in a stretcher to rush Emma out.
As George turned, Scarlett grabbed his arm.
"Come with me to the engagement! This is a big deal for the Russell family; you can't mess around!" Scarlett snapped.
"George, you should know what's more important. Emma is definitely faking it! These doctors are probably con artists she hired!" Sophia, trying to defend Anna, was losing it.
Willie couldn't believe what he was hearing.
He had personally gone to many hospitals, using the Russell family's influence to get these doctors here.
Now they were being called con artists. And George seemed to be buying it.
George hesitated as he watched Emma being quickly loaded into the ambulance.
He followed closely behind the ambulance, his heart racing, a bitter taste rising in his throat. He stared intently at Emma, as if trying to figure out if she was tricking him.
"Mr. Russell, they really are doctors!" Willie couldn't take it anymore and spoke up for Emma.
"Get out of the way!" Scarlett shoved Willie aside, nearly knocking him over. "Why are you defending that bitch Emma? Did you sleep with her too?"
Willie looked shocked.
For the sake of his job, he had to swallow his anger. Willie stepped back and said no more.
At that moment, he felt immense sympathy and understanding for Emma, who had been enduring this kind of torment all along!
The ambulance siren pierced the night, echoing through the quiet streets.
Inside the vehicle, the paramedics worked busily and professionally to save her. Just then, the heart monitor emitted a sharp alarm, and the numbers on the screen froze.
"Cardiac arrest! Quick, start CPR!" The paramedic's voice fell like a thunderbolt. In an instant, George's mind was overwhelmed by intense fear.
"Three seconds of cardiac arrest!" The doctor shouted. His actions swift and forceful, trying to save Emma's life.
George could only watch from the side, feeling utterly helpless. He gazed at Emma's pale face fearfully. His palms were sweaty, and his whole body trembled uncontrollably.
Countless moments flashed through his mind—Emma's smile, her persistence, her stubbornness. Those beautiful times seemed so fragile and luxurious at this moment.
Finally, with a sharp defibrillator sound, Emma's body twitched slightly. The doctor's tense expression relaxed a bit. Her heart had been restarted.
"The patient has been saved!" The paramedic's voice echoed inside the vehicle, tinged with a bit of joy and exhaustion. "Drive to the hospital! The equipment here is too basic!"
