Chapter 431 Sweet Pampering
The temperature outside suddenly dropped, and a cold wind blew in through the window. Emma instinctively hunched her shoulders. George immediately took off his suit jacket and gently draped it over her, his tone full of concern. "It's getting cold. Don't catch a chill. You always forget to bring a jacket, so I brought an extra one today."
Emma felt the warmth lingering on the jacket and a wave of warmth filled her heart. She smiled and nodded, "Thanks, George. You're always so thoughtful."
George reached out and ruffled her hair. "No thanks. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters. By the way, I had the chef at home make your favorite seafood soup. It'll be ready when we get back. You've been working too hard lately, you need to take care of yourself."
"Really? You even remembered that?"
"Of course, you mentioned it last time, so I had the chef learn how to make it."
Emma leaned against his shoulder. "George, you're so sweet."
George gently wrapped his arm around her shoulder, his voice tender. "As long as you're happy, I'm happy."
Their interaction was noticed by the people around them, many of whom showed expressions of envy.
"Oh my gosh, George is so sweet to Emma! Their love is really enviable!"
"Emma not only has a successful career but also such a perfect husband. She's truly winning at life!"
"Their relationship is so sweet, it's really something to be jealous of!"
However, Phoenix watched this scene with a heart full of jealousy and discontent. She stared at George with eyes full of longing and bitterness. "Why does Emma get to have all this? Why does she get George's love?"
Her expression was fully noticed by Jack.
Jack stood not far away, a cold glint in his eyes. He walked over to Phoenix and whispered, "Your eyes are practically glued to George. Have you forgotten who you belong to?"
Phoenix snapped back to reality, her face pale, forcing a smile. "Uncle Jack, you misunderstood, I was just..."
Jack sneered, cutting her off. "Don't pretend. I know exactly what's going on in your mind."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Phoenix standing there, her heart in turmoil.
Shortly after, Phoenix excused herself to the restroom, trying to calm her nerves. However, as soon as she entered, Jack followed her in and locked the door behind him.
Phoenix jumped in fright, her face turning pale. "What are you doing?"
Jack stepped closer, his eyes cold and filled with desire. "Phoenix, you lost my wife, so you owe me."
Phoenix backed up until she was against the wall, her voice trembling. "I don't know where Aunt Scarlett is."
Jack sneered, grabbing her chin, his voice icy. "Still lying? Phoenix, do you think I'm an idiot? Come to my room tonight, or I won't hesitate to expose all your dirty secrets."
Phoenix gritted her teeth, her eyes full of humiliation and anger, but she didn't dare to resist. She whispered, "I understand, and I'll be there."
Jack released her, satisfied, and left.
Meanwhile, Emma and George had already left the competition venue and returned to their cozy home. The contestants, who had been busy all day, were allowed to return to the hotel arranged by the show.
However, for Phoenix, the nightmare was far from over.
As she left the venue, ready to head back to the hotel, a group of angry people suddenly surrounded her. They held rotten eggs, wilted vegetables, paint bottles, and even banners that read: [Phoenix, get out of the competition.] It created a chaotic scene like a small riot.
"Phoenix, you fraud! How dare you enter the competition?"
"Get out of the design world! You don't deserve to be a designer!"
"Phoenix, your scandals have been exposed, and stop pretending to be innocent!"
Before Phoenix could react, a rotten egg hit her shoulder, the foul smell spreading instantly. She stepped back, her face turning pale, her eyes flashing with anger. "How dare you?"
But the crowd didn't stop, becoming even more agitated. A girl rushed forward and splashed a bottle of red paint on Phoenix, shouting, "You like to act all high and mighty? Here's some color for you!"
Phoenix couldn't dodge in time, the paint splattering her white coat, staining it red. She looked down at her clothes, her face dark with rage, her fists clenched tightly. "You lunatics, how dare you do this to me?"
"Phoenix, you deserve it! Do you think deleting those news articles can hide your crimes? Get out of the competition! Stop embarrassing yourself!"
Phoenix let out a cold laugh, her eyes blazing with contempt. "You think you can order me around? How amusing."
As soon as she finished speaking, someone threw a bag of flour at her. The flour scattered in the air like a white mist, enveloping her from head to toe. Phoenix coughed, her hair, face, and clothes covered in white powder, looking utterly disheveled.
"Phoenix, you look like a clown!"
"You deserve it! Stop pretending!"
Phoenix wiped the flour off her face, her eyes cold as ice. "Are you looking for trouble? You will regret your actions."
But the crowd didn't take her threats seriously, becoming even more brazen. Someone even took out their phone, frantically taking pictures of her. "Phoenix, you look ridiculous! This will definitely go viral online!"
Phoenix gritted her teeth, her eyes flashing with murderous intent. She rushed forward, grabbed the person's phone, and smashed it on the ground. "Take pictures! Go ahead!"
The phone shattered, the person stunned for a moment before shouting angrily. "Phoenix, are you crazy? How dare you smash my phone?"
"So what if I smashed your phone? If you provoke me again, I'll smash you too!"
At that moment, the hotel security finally arrived, dispersing the crowd. Phoenix stood there, covered in flour, but her eyes were as cold as knives, showing no sign of weakness or fear.
"I'm calling the police! These people have gone too far!" She said through gritted teeth.
However, when the police arrived, things didn't go as she hoped. The officers had seen the negative news about Phoenix online and showed little sympathy for her, their attitude indifferent.
"Ms. Lewis, we'll investigate this matter, but you also need to be mindful of your own actions," one officer said flatly. "After all, the online rumors aren't baseless."
Phoenix trembled with anger at his words. "What do you mean? I'm the victim here! Aren't you supposed to protect me?"
