Chapter 265 Fire
Emma had reached out to a hacker to send Anna a series of short videos, all showing scenes of protagonists faking their deaths to escape. She hoped these videos would spark some ideas for Anna's own getaway.
Sure enough, Anna watched these videos intently from her hospital bed, committing every detail to memory. Why couldn't she fake her own death too?
Anna finally decided to take drastic measures. Her plan was to start a fire and escape during the chaos.
One sunny afternoon, when the hospital was relatively quiet and the nurses were busy with other patients, Anna seized the opportunity to put her plan into action. Her heart raced as she mentally reviewed every detail, determined to leave nothing to chance.
She carefully observed her surroundings, ensuring the guards assigned to watch her weren't paying attention. Though she was weak and still hooked up to an IV, her resolve was unshakable. She reached for a small bottle of alcohol-based sanitizer she had secretly stashed away. She knew this flammable liquid was key to her plan.
Anna carefully poured the alcohol onto her bed sheets, the liquid quickly soaking in and releasing a sharp odor. She then splashed more alcohol in the corners of the room to ensure the fire would spread rapidly. Her heart pounded with a mix of anxiety and excitement, as if this was her only hope for freedom.
With everything ready, Anna slowly sat up, trying to appear as normal as possible. She held a lighter she had stolen from another patient. Taking a deep breath, she flicked the lighter.
'Just a small spark to start a big fire,' she thought, her fingers trembling as the flame danced at her fingertips, calling for her courage. She brought the flame close to the alcohol-soaked sheets, and in an instant, the fire roared to life, quickly consuming the bed.
The flames spread rapidly, filling the room with thick smoke. Anna felt a wave of suffocation but knew she had to stay calm. She covered her head with a blanket to avoid inhaling too much smoke. The fire rapidly consumed the walls and furniture, transforming the room into a blazing inferno.
Though she wasn't truly a victim, she had to make it look real. She pushed open the door, smoke billowing out, the acrid smell making her choke. She stifled her coughs and ran into the hallway.
People in the corridor were alarmed by the sudden fire. Nurses and doctors rushed towards the room with fire extinguishers, trying to put out the flames. Anna blended into the crowd, feigning panic, silently grateful her plan was working.
"Fire! Somebody help!" she shouted, trying to draw more attention and create more chaos. Her heart raced with a mix of fear and excitement, knowing she was close to freedom.
Amid the confusion, Anna quietly made her way to the hospital's back exit, relieved she was finally escaping this suffocating place.
The hospital's alarms blared, and news of the fire spread quickly. Sophia, waiting outside the room, heard the commotion and saw the nurses running in panic. Her heart sank, realizing the gravity of the situation.
"Anna!" she called out weakly, her voice lost in the chaos, a wave of unease washing over her. She knew Anna was still in the room, and the fire was spreading fast, making the situation dire.
Without hesitation, Sophia rushed towards the room. Smoke filled the hallway, but she only wanted to save Anna.
"Anna! Where are you?" she shouted, her voice swallowed by the smoke. She covered her mouth and nose, pushing towards the room. The heat was intense, the air oppressive.
When she finally pushed open the door, the sight before her was heart-wrenching. The bed was consumed by flames, with smoke rising thickly into the air, and an unrecognizable, charred body lay motionless amidst the inferno.
At that moment, the smoke thickened, and the fire spread rapidly. Sophia knew she couldn't stay any longer; she had to leave. But as she turned, the smoke made her cough uncontrollably, almost unable to breathe. Her arm was burned by the flames, the pain nearly unbearable.
"Help! Here I need help!" she shouted, trying to draw attention. The smoke stung her eyes, making her cry.
Just then, firefighters arrived, quickly starting their rescue. Dressed in heavy gear, they rushed into the fire. Seeing Sophia trapped in the smoke, they didn't hesitate to help her.
"Come with us!" a firefighter shouted, quickly supporting Sophia and helping her out of the fire.
"Stay with us!" the firefighter's voice was firm, guiding her to safety.
Outside the hospital, Sophia was weak, her face marked with burns, breathing heavily. She was filled with gratitude and despair, tears streaming down her face.
"Anna, where are you?" she asked desperately.
Tears flowed uncontrollably. Was her Anna really dead?
Overwhelmed, Sophia coughed up blood, and everyone noticed the bloodstains on her back. She was severely injured.
Doctors rushed to save her, but their expressions soon turned grave.
"She's lost too much blood. We need a transfusion, but we don't have her blood type," a doctor said anxiously.
"Find a way! We can't let her die!" another doctor responded urgently, feeling helpless.
Sophia lay on the bed, her consciousness fading, the sounds around her growing distant. She was filled with worry for Anna, thinking of the charred body, feeling a wave of despair.
She didn't know if she would survive.
Just then, the emergency room door burst open, and Emma rushed in. Her face was filled with anxiety, her eyes showing deep concern. Hearing the doctors' conversation, her heart sank as she realized the severity of the situation.
"I can donate blood," Emma said firmly, her voice clear and firm.
