Chapter 445 Deception

"I've never lied to you!" George grinded his teeth . "You're the one who's been deceiving me all along. You made me believe you were Emma, and that's why I felt responsible for you. Our whole relationship started with a lie!"

"Oh, that's rich, blaming it all on me. I was dumb enough to think you were my safe haven, only to find out you're just a heartless manipulator!" Anna's voice trembled with fury.

"Anna, you never really loved me! All you wanted was the title of Mrs. Russell. And I never loved you either."

Anna's tears streamed down her face, unable to hold back the pain any longer. Her helpless anger made her breathless. "Really? I lowered my dignity to love you, only to be met with your contempt?"

"This isn't love, but rather a prison!" George's voice gradually calmed, tinged with a hint of resignation. "I can't let you keep tying me and Emma down. I'll protect her and make sure you never hurt her again!"

The harsh truth hit Anna like a punch to the gut, her face turning pale. She felt her heart being torn apart, and anger surged within her. "Is my love for you really that worthless? You can just toss me aside so easily for her? George, I won't accept this!"

Anna's next words remained unspoken, but she made a silent vow in her heart.

Since George never truly cared for her, he was never going to protect her.

So she wouldn't let George off the hook either.

Anna nodded to the guard standing nearby, who glanced at his communicator and returned her nod.

Anna felt a surge of triumph as she subtly swept her gaze over George, her eyes flicking to a hidden corner behind him, as if confirming something.

Then, she smirked and began her performance.

"George, come closer. I have a secret to tell you." Her voice softened, like a gentle autumn breeze, carrying a hint of sorrow and mystery.

George's disdain was evident, his voice cold. "I'm not interested."

"This secret concerns Emma." As her words fell, the air seemed to grow heavier.

"What did you say?" George's expression turned serious, his eyes flashing with caution. "Speak plainly. What's going on with Emma?"

Anna smiled faintly, thinking to herself, 'This trick works every time.' She continued with a mysterious tone, "Lucas is our child. He's the only thing I care about in this world."

Her words were delicate, as if plucked from a fragile string in her heart.

Though George's face remained impassive, doubt stirred within him. But out of caution, he chose to remain silent, listening to her.

"You must protect him well." Anna bit her lip, speaking with deep emotion. "When I leave this world, you have to take care of him. Make Emma believe Lucas is her child. Only then will she truly care for him and give him a warm home!"

George's brow furrowed sharply. He wanted to interrupt but held back.

"You know, if she thinks Lucas is her child, she'll pour all her love into him. You must be careful, never let Emma realize you're not the boy she met at Dreamscape Peak!"

Her words were like a sharp thorn, causing George a pang of unease. He began to seriously ponder her intentions.

"Remember, don't let guilt over me or your feelings for me lead you to retaliate against Emma." Anna's voice dropped, her eyes showing a hint of innocent pleading. "It won't do any good for either of you."

Despite his cold attitude, George continued to listen quietly.

Was Anna losing her mind, saying such things?

Anna added, "You must be careful, never let Emma discover your true identity. If she finds out, the consequences will be unimaginable!" Her tone carried a sense of urgency, as if persuading him.

"Enough!" George finally snapped, "What nonsense are you talking about? Is this your secret about Emma?"

"I just want you to protect our child." She blinked, feigning innocence.

At that moment, hidden in the shadows, Emma overheard everything. Her sadness surged like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her. The warm words George had spoken before were now revealed as the most beautiful lies in her dreams.

Emma mused, 'He never loved me; he only loves Anna.' Her heart felt like it was being torn apart, each word cutting her soul like a blade.

She couldn't believe that her hopes and dreams were so fragile, collapsing in an instant.

"Why is this happening?" Emma sobbed, despair and pain intertwining, making her breath heavy. George's gentle voice and warm embrace now seemed like a ridiculous dream. Trust and love felt like they were being blown away, turning into invisible ashes.

Unable to bear the spreading pain, Emma decided to leave.

She quietly slipped out of the prison, tears blurring her vision. Each step felt like walking into endless darkness, her heart churning with confused emotions. She didn't want to see George again, didn't want to feel the coldness and despair, and didn't want any further connection with him.

"Maybe forgetting him is my only way out." Emma muttered to herself.

George had no idea how deeply Anna's words had affected Emma.

At that moment, George finally realized he had been played by Anna all along. A surge of anger rose within him, his face darkening. "One foot in the grave and still talking shit, Anna?"

"I'm only thinking about you and Lucas." Anna's voice held defiance. "George, now that Emma's not here, you don't have to pretend you don't love me."

George found Anna's words utterly baffling.

What on earth was she talking about?

He had never been intimate with Anna, and Lucas had been confirmed through a paternity test to be his and Emma's child.

Most importantly, George despised Anna so much, there was no way he would hurt Emma for her sake.

Anna must be losing her mind as she faced death.

George didn't want to waste any more words with her.

Anna was facing the death penalty, and he didn't want to argue with a woman about to descend into hell. Her remaining days were numbered. He gave her a cold look and turned, walking out of the prison without hesitation.
