Chapter 442 Visiting the Prison

Anna deliberately lowered her voice, her eyes slightly reddened, making her look pitiful. This tactic worked like a charm on Joseph.

"I'll help you, and I promise!" Joseph's voice trembled with excitement. "I'll do whatever it takes to get Emma to see you! Even if I have to drag her here myself!"

A faint, almost imperceptible smile appeared on Anna's lips. "Thank you."

"There's no need for thanks between us. My life belongs to you."

As Joseph walked out of the prison, his eyes were filled with a sense of mission. Gilbert was waiting for him in the car, and seeing Joseph's excitement, he couldn't help but comment, "Joseph, you've been deceived. It's obvious she's just using you."

"No, this is my mission," Joseph said firmly. "I'll do anything for Anna."

Gilbert rolled his eyes. "You're hopeless, man. Suckers for their crushes are beyond saving."

Joseph had been staking out near Emma's house all day.

He remembered Anna's instructions clearly: approach Emma only when George wasn't around.

Even without Anna's warning, after barely escaping George's bodyguards, there was no way he would willingly walk into their hands.

At three in the afternoon, George drove away, and Joseph sprang into action. He straightened his collar, took a deep breath, and walked up to Emma's front door.

The knock echoed, and Emma slowly opened the door. When she saw Joseph's scarred face and the visible marks on his body, she was taken aback. He looked like a demon who had crawled out of hell, his face covered in a web of scars that made him appear terrifying.

"Who are you?" Emma instinctively took a step back, her eyes filled with fear.

Joseph knew he had to tread carefully. Forcing a gentle smile, he spoke as softly as he could, "Emma, I have something important to tell you. It's about Anna."

When he mentioned Anna, Emma's eyes flickered with a complex emotion. "Anna?"

"She's about to be executed," Joseph said slowly. "Her last wish is to see you."

To Joseph's surprise, Emma didn't react with fear. Instead, she seemed oddly calm. "I can go see her."

Joseph was stunned.

By all accounts, Emma should hate him. After all, he had once kidnapped her child. In her eyes, he should be an unforgivable villain. But now, Emma seemed to have completely forgotten the past.

"You don't hate me?" Joseph asked, bewildered.

Emma shook her head calmly. "Why would I hate you? You're just a messenger. We have no personal grudge. Why should I hate you?"

Joseph's backup plan for kidnapping was instantly rendered useless. He hadn't expected Emma to be so cooperative.

"You're really willing to go to the prison with me?" Joseph asked cautiously.

"Yes," Emma nodded. "Why would I lie? If she's really about to die, why wouldn't I go see her one last time? We have so much history. I want to know if she'll admit her mistakes before she dies."

Just like that, Joseph, to his complete surprise, easily convinced Emma. He hadn't even needed to resort to threats; Emma agreed willingly.

It all seemed unbelievable to Joseph. But what mattered most was that he had fulfilled Anna's request.

He couldn't shake the feeling that Anna's desire to see Emma wasn't just about a final farewell. Anna was always a person with a purpose.

She never did anything without a reason.

Could seeing Emma be related to her getting out of prison?

The visiting room in the prison was cold and oppressive, the air heavy with tension. Emma and Anna stood on opposite sides of the thick glass, the tension between them so intense it felt like a ticking time bomb.

"I didn't think you'd actually come. After all these years, we finally meet in this hellhole."

Anna's voice dripped with sarcasm and satisfaction.

"Why did you call me here? What do you want to say?" Emma's tone was almost cold.

Anna suddenly exclaimed, "What do I have to say? You ruined everything for me! What do you think I have to say?" Her calm demeanor quickly turned to madness, her eyes blazing with hatred. "But before I die, I want to tell you a secret that will destroy you!"

Emma frowned slightly, a sense of unease creeping into her heart.

"The boy you fell in love with by the sea all those years ago wasn't George!" Anna's words were like a death sentence. "You completely mistook him! George is a total fraud, part of a scheme to get close to you!"

Emma's pupils contracted sharply, as if struck by lightning. "What are you talking about? That's impossible!"

Anna continued, "George knew exactly who the real boy was. He had a deep-seated grudge against him, so he targeted you for revenge! Every detail of his interactions with you was meticulously planned to get close to you and then destroy you, making that boy suffer!"

"No! That's not true!" Emma instinctively wanted to deny it, but her inner defenses were crumbling, like a dam about to burst.

"Do you really think he loves you?" Anna sneered, her laughter filled with mockery. "He wants to tear you apart! His every move was to torment you!"

Emma's hands began to tremble uncontrollably. Anna's words struck like a scorpion's tail, injecting poison into her fragile heart.

"Why are you telling me this?" Emma's voice was barely audible, as if it could shatter at any moment.

A complex, inscrutable emotion flashed in Anna's eyes. "Because I don't want you to have a good life. I want to see you suffer, to see you go mad, to see you deceived by George. Your misery is my pleasure!"

Emma walked out numb, a hollow shell of her former self. Anna's words echoed in her mind, each one a sharp blade piercing her heart, tearing her soul apart.

Was George really just a fraud? Had he approached her solely for revenge?

Who was the real boy she had fallen in love with by the sea?

Emma's world came crashing down in that moment, plunging her into a terrifying void.
