Chapter 493 Escape
The setting sun looked like shattered orange glass, casting a colorful yet desolate glow on the sidewalk in front of the hospital. Phoenix sat slumped on the cold ground, resembling a discarded, worn-out doll, exuding an indescribable sense of despair and desolation. Her clothes were covered in dust, her hair was disheveled, and she seemed completely forgotten by the world.
Who would have thought that the once glamorous and highly regarded Mrs. Russell would end up in such a pitiful state? The once dazzling figure now looked like an abandoned shadow, curled up alone in a corner of the city.
Phoenix was filled with regret.
Why had she been so foolish, so greedy for the Russell family's wealth?
Not only had she gained nothing, but she had also endured all the suffering that Scarlett was supposed to bear.
No way!
She wouldn't accept this!
She didn't want to be Scarlett anymore!
She wanted to be Phoenix again!
Jack, standing nearby, had clearly lost all patience.
He roughly grabbed Phoenix, trying to force her into the car. Phoenix felt a chill in her heart, but in her despair, she found a surprising calm. Days of grievances and endurance finally coalesced into a near-mad desire to survive.
Just as Jack yanked her, Phoenix suddenly began to cough violently. She curled up on the ground, clutching her chest, her coughs sounding weak and pitiful.
"I don't feel well," she moaned weakly, her voice trembling, sounding utterly pitiful.
Jack frowned, instinctively stepping back, a look of disgust flashing in his eyes. "Faking illness again?" His voice was full of impatience and contempt.
Taking advantage of the moment, Phoenix quickly pulled out a fake blood packet from her small bag. While Jack wasn't looking, she smashed the packet on the ground and smeared some on her clothes.
She suddenly screamed in terror, "I'm bleeding!"
Jack instinctively stepped back, a flicker of panic in his eyes. Phoenix pretended to be weak and unable to stand up from the ground.
The surrounding pedestrians were stunned by the scene, gathering around, pointing and whispering. Jack, feeling a bit panicked but still maintaining a facade of indifference, was in a hurry to get to another hospital for his own stomach pain.
What was Phoenix making a fuss about now?
So what if she was bleeding?
Couldn't she just endure it?
If Phoenix knew what Jack was thinking, she would probably want to do more than just escape; she would want to kill Jack first and then escape.
How could Jack be so despicable?
Bleeding wasn't something you could just endure!
Phoenix didn't say anything, just continued to moan in pain.
Jack, unwilling to argue with Phoenix any longer, threw a few hundred dollars at her and said coldly, "Go see a doctor yourself. I'm busy."
With that, he turned and walked away.
Phoenix watched his retreating figure, losing in thought.
She could indeed escape now, even leave Lakeside Haven and never return. Of course, before she escaped, she would bring the real Scarlett back and give her to Jack.
That way, Phoenix could disappear without a trace.
But Jack and Scarlett, that shameless couple, had been so cruel to her. She had to get her revenge before leaving!
She would plant a hidden danger for them.
"Quick, take her to the hospital!" a passerby said indignantly, "How can that man just leave her like this? What kind of husband is he?"
"Yeah, how can he treat his wife like that?" another voice chimed in.
The crowd grew more agitated. Jack, not far away, didn't bother to explain and walked straight to his car, disappearing from sight. Phoenix, holding the few hundred dollars, silently planned her revenge, thinking, 'Great, with Jack gone, it's easier to carry out my plan. Since Jack won't let me live in peace, I won't let the Russell family live in peace either!'
A kind person helped Phoenix to the emergency room.
Before the doctor could examine her, Phoenix quickly said, "Doctor, I think I might have AIDS. I need to get tested." Her voice was urgent and trembling, as if she was extremely frightened.
The doctor and nurse exchanged surprised and concerned looks.
"Why do you think you might have AIDS?" the doctor asked, trying to understand her situation.
"I recently came into contact with a patient who was just diagnosed with AIDS. I'm really worried," Phoenix said, her voice trembling, a few fake tears falling from her eyes, her expression full of pain.
The doctor grew serious and carefully noted details of her history and symptoms during the examination. Phoenix felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing that once the examination was over, she could execute her plan.
During the examination, the doctor noticed that Phoenix's heart rate was slightly elevated. This was common in the emergency room, but given her anxiety, the doctor decided to draw a blood sample for an HIV antibody test. This was a standard method for determining HIV infection, usually taking a few days for results.
"Please wait, we'll get your results as soon as possible," the doctor said seriously, then left to prepare the test.
Phoenix's palms were slightly sweaty from nerves, but she knew she had to stay calm.
She had already planned how to switch her blood sample with that of a real AIDS patient.
She had learned about the patient through some hospital staff and overheard discussions about the case. The patient had been hospitalized due to a severe car accident and was found to be HIV positive during the examination. Phoenix, coincidentally at the hospital at the same time, had pretended to be concerned and gathered enough information about the patient.
Now, she just needed to wait for the right moment.
When it was time for the doctor to draw her blood, Phoenix noticed a crucial detail. the AIDS patient's blood sample was also on the same table, and the nurse was preparing to send it to the lab. Phoenix realized this was her perfect opportunity.
When everything was ready, Phoenix acted quickly.
As the nurse turned away, Phoenix pretended to slip and knocked over the cart, spilling all the test tubes onto the floor.
