Chapter 245 Car Accident
Emma and Lucas climbed into the Stuart family's car.
As night fell, the city lights flickered outside the car window. The driver expertly started the car, and it sped smoothly down the wide road. The city nightscape outside was like a dazzling starry sky, reflecting the smiles on their faces.
Lucas excitedly recounted funny stories from school, while Emma listened attentively, occasionally adding comments to keep him going.
The driver, listening to their conversation from the front seat, couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth.
He had never seen Lucas and Anna chat so happily before. Even though Lucas and Isabella weren't related by blood, they shared a natural bond.
'They really seem like mother and son,' the driver thought to himself, a smile creeping onto his face.
Despite being born into a wealthy family, Lucas was a lonely child. If Isabella could provide him with some warmth, the driver hoped that this warmth would continue.
In the back seat, they chatted happily, while the driver focused on the road. The car drove steadily on the overpass. Suddenly, as the car turned, the driver felt a jolt in the steering wheel, followed by the screech of brakes and a violent jolt.
"What happened?" Emma's smile froze, and a wave of unease washed over her.
"The brakes have failed!" The driver's voice was filled with panic. He desperately pressed the brake pedal, but the car continued to speed forward.
"Quick! Control the car!" Emma's heart tightened. She quickly turned around and held Lucas's hand tightly, trying to comfort him.
Lucas's face turned pale as he said, "Isabella, I'm scared!"
"Don't be afraid, Lucas. I'll protect you!" Emma said firmly, shielding Lucas with her body to make him feel safe.
The car lost control on the overpass, speeding forward like a wild beast. The driver frantically turned the steering wheel, trying to guide the car to safety, but it remained uncontrollable.
"Hold on tight!" the driver shouted, his eyes filled with fear. He knew the situation was dire.
At that moment, the car veered off the edge of the overpass, plummeting towards the ground. Time seemed to freeze. Emma's heart raced as she held Lucas tightly, her only thought being that Lucas must not get hurt.
Lucas screamed in terror. The car arced through the air, and Emma felt a sense of weightlessness as the world flipped around them. Just when she thought it was all over, the car crashed heavily onto the ground with a loud bang, followed by violent jolts.
The sound of metal tearing and screeching filled the air. Emma felt a strong impact, her body lurching forward. She held Lucas tightly, trying to shield him from harm.
"Isabella!" Lucas's voice was filled with helplessness and fear as he clung to Emma's hand, seeking a sense of security.
The car skidded along the ground, finally crashing into the roadside barrier with a loud bang. The car shook violently, as if it could flip over at any moment. Emma's heart tightened as she struggled to stay calm and protect Lucas.
Finally, the car came to a stop against the barrier. Silence enveloped them, broken only by the sound of their breathing and racing hearts. Emma exhaled slowly, relieved that she and Lucas had come through the terrifying ordeal unscathed.
"Lucas, are you okay?" Emma asked, her voice trembling with lingering fear.
"I... I don't know." Lucas was still in shock.
"Does anything hurt?" Emma asked, changing her approach.
"It hurts." Lucas's response prompted Emma to quickly check his body. She discovered a deep cut on his arm from the shattered car window.
"We need to get to the hospital to make sure you all get proper treatment," the driver said, quickly dialing for an ambulance.
Soon, the ambulance arrived, and they were carefully placed on stretchers. Even though Emma had some injuries, it was the fear that held her heart the most. She held Lucas's hand tightly, silently vowing to protect his safety.
Sophia and Henry were at home when they received the news about Isabella and Lucas's accident on the overpass. Sophia's heart sank, her face turning pale as she nearly dropped her phone.
"Henry, we need to get to the hospital, now!" Sophia urged.
Henry immediately set aside his work, quickly put on his coat, and followed Sophia out the door. On the way, Sophia's mind was filled with worry, images of Lucas's smiling faces flashing before her eyes. She couldn't imagine how she would face Anna if they were seriously hurt.
"They'll be okay; don't worry," Henry tried to reassure Sophia, though he himself felt uneasy.
"I hope so," Sophia sighed.
When they arrived at the hospital, a crowd had already gathered outside the emergency room. Doctors and nurses were bustling in and out, the atmosphere tense and oppressive. Sophia and Henry hurriedly asked a nurse about Isabella's condition and were relieved to hear that she wasn't in danger but still needed further observation.
Sophia asked urgently, "What about Lucas?"
"He's lost a lot of blood, and the blood bank is running low. Is there any family member who can donate blood?" the nurse asked urgently.
Both Sophia and Henry got their blood types tested, but neither matched. Sophia quickly contacted George, hoping he could be a match.
But George's phone was unreachable.
If only Anna were here. She had saved Lucas before, and as his mother, she would surely be a matching blood type to save him again. This thought reignited Sophia's resentment towards Isabella.
If it weren't for her, Lucas wouldn't be hurt.
In the hospital corridor, the tense atmosphere was palpable. As time ticked by, everyone grew increasingly anxious, feeling helpless and afraid.
Just then, Emma, who had just woken up, heard the news. Her heart tightened, memories of happy times with Lucas flashing through her mind. Despite her weakened state, she stood up without hesitation and firmly told the nurse, "I'll donate blood!"
The nurse was momentarily stunned, then showed a look of gratitude and quickly arranged for Emma's blood type test.
As the nurse conducted the test, she couldn't help but be struck by Emma's striking face, feeling as though she had seen her somewhere before.
