Chapter 400 Deception

Phoenix's heart tightened. She blurted out, "George, you gotta believe me! I'm being set up! Emma's just pretending! She hasn't lost her memory. Don't let her fool you!"

"Emma would never do something like that. Even if everyone else lies to me, Emma wouldn't!" George retorted.

Emma's voice quivered as she spoke, "George, I really don't know what to do. I just wanted to protect Grandpa, but I never thought it would turn out like this. I don't want to hurt anyone, but why is she doing this?"

George walked over to Emma and gently put his arm around her shoulders. "Emma, you did the right thing. I won't let anyone hurt you or Grandpa. Don't worry, I'll take care of this. She won't get another chance to harm you."

His voice was soothing, and his eyes were filled with concern.

Phoenix watched the two of them, feeling both angry and discontented. She knew she had completely lost George's trust.

She gritted her teeth, her voice tinged with bitterness, and spat out, "Fine, just you wait! I won't let this go! You think you can get rid of me that easily? Dream on!"

With that, she scrambled to her feet and stormed out, leaving George and Emma alone in the room. Her departure was clumsy, her steps unsteady, clearly shaken by the recent events.

George looked down at Emma, his eyes full of concern. "Emma, are you okay? Did she do anything to you?"

Emma leaned into his embrace, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible. "George, I'm fine. I'm just scared. Mom was acting like she was crazy."

George gently stroked her hair, his voice tender enough to melt anything. "Don't be afraid. I'll handle this."

Emma looked up, a fleeting coldness in her eyes that she quickly concealed. "George, thank you. With you by my side, I'm not afraid of anything."

George kissed her forehead.

Fortunately, Emma had intervened in time, and Charles only suffered minor injuries. To be safe, George had a medical team conduct a full examination on Charles.

Everything was normal.

Phoenix was kicked out of George's mansion and returned to her small, rundown apartment, looking defeated.

As she pushed open the door, she was startled to see a stranger lounging on her couch, holding a leash attached to a golden retriever. The man looked to be in his early twenties, dressed in a simple white T-shirt and jeans, like a college student, but his cold gaze was unsettling, as if he could see through everything.

Phoenix took a step back, her voice trembling, "Who are you? How did you get in here?" Her heart raced, her palms sweaty, completely unprepared for this intruder.

The man stood up slowly, the golden retriever obediently following him, its tail gently wagging. He smirked, his voice low and chilling, "You can call me Kieran. How I got in isn't important. What's important is that you've disappointed me."

Phoenix's face turned pale at the mention of Kieran.

Without Kieran, she wouldn't have been able to get the drugs, force George to jump off a building, kidnap Seraphine and Lucas, or return from abroad. The human skin mask to impersonate Scarlett was also beyond her capabilities alone.

Though she didn't know why Kieran helped her, she had indeed accepted his assistance.

Their communication had always been online, and she never expected the person who had been supporting her, providing money and convenience, to show up in person.

She tried to suppress her fear, stammering, "Kieran, I didn't know you would come, I..."

Kieran cut her off, clearly annoyed, "Of course you didn't. I'm here to ask why, after all this time, you haven't managed to kill anyone? You wanted to get rid of Emma. How come you can't even handle that?"

Phoenix felt a chill run through her. She tried to explain, "Kieran, you don't understand the situation. George's security system is too tight. I can't get close to Emma. I've tried my best, but..."

"Your best?" Kieran sneered, his eyes filled with contempt. "Your best is getting kicked out of George's house and hiding here like a stray dog? Phoenix, you've really let me down."

"No, I have results!"

"Really? What results?"

"I've poisoned Charles. He almost died at my hands!" Phoenix pleaded, "Kieran, please give me another chance. I won't disappoint you. I'll make sure he dies!"

Kieran stared at her for a while, then suddenly smiled, a playful look in his eyes. "Fine, I'll give you another chance. But don't let me down again."

He pulled a small black device from his pocket, casually pressing a few buttons. The screen immediately displayed George's security system. His actions were so effortless.

"I've hacked into George's security system. His mansion is now an unguarded fortress for you. Tonight, go and kill Charles yourself." Kieran's tone was casual.

Phoenix's eyes lit up at his words, but she hesitated, her voice uncertain, "But if George finds out it was me, he won't let me go."

Kieran chuckled, his eyes playful, his tone full of temptation, "In exchange, I'll make sure George spends the night with you. You've always wanted him, haven't you? This time, I'll make it happen."

His voice was seductive, drawing her into his trap.

Phoenix's fear was instantly replaced by greed. She smirked, her voice excited, "Kieran, don't worry, I'll complete the task! Charles, tonight is your death day!"

Kieran nodded in satisfaction, casually petting the golden retriever's head. "Don't disappoint me again."

Phoenix nodded repeatedly, her voice trembling, "I understand, I understand! I won't let you down!"

Kieran said nothing more, turning to leave with the golden retriever, his figure disappearing into the dim hallway. His footsteps faded away, as if he had never been there.

Phoenix stood there, feeling both excited and fearful. She clenched her fists, a fierce look in her eyes, muttering, "Charles, tonight is your death day! And George, you'll finally be mine!"

Her laughter echoed in the empty apartment, sounding particularly chilling.

While Phoenix and Kieran were meeting, Emma also left the mansion.

She first went to the hospital to meet Billy, then drove alone to a luxury boutique in the city center. The store's exterior was understated and elegant, with a sign that read [Private Custom, Members Only.] She pushed the door open, and the interior was softly lit, the air filled with a faint scent of perfume.

A store clerk greeted her with a smile, politely asking, "Ma'am, how can I assist you today?"
