Chapter 156 Seraphine's Father

"Mrs. Stuart." George opened the door, revealing the identity of the visitor. It was Sophia.

She had heard that Anna was getting drenched in the rain outside The Russell Villa and had driven over immediately. By the time she arrived, Anna was already soaked, her lips pale from the cold, her body shivering uncontrollably.

"Anna!" Overwhelmed with distress, Sophia rushed forward and tightly embraced Anna, her heart full of pain and unease.

"Why are you getting drenched in the rain here? Come inside with me!"

"Mom, I'm fine," Anna struggled slightly, pretending to be afraid to enter, shrinking back, "Ms. Taylor is inside, and George won't let me in."

"He dares!" Sophia's anger flared up, almost consuming her reason. Her face turned pale instantly, then flushed red with fury.

"George, how can you treat Anna like this!" Sophia shouted at George.

George stood coldly at the door, his indifferent gaze sweeping over the scene before him. There was no trace of guilt on his face, only a hint of disgust, especially towards Anna.

"Mrs. Stuart, this is my private matter," George interrupted Sophia's roar mercilessly.

Whether Sophia was angry or not was irrelevant to George.

"Anna has been with you for so many years. Lucas is already six, she has sacrificed so much for you, and you let her get drenched in the rain!" Sophia's voice was filled with immense anger, her eyes glistening with tears, her heart full of pain for Anna.

"My feelings for Anna don't need your judgment," George responded coldly, his tone tinged with impatience. He turned to Anna, full of disgust, "You chose this path yourself, don't blame me."

"And you, Isabella!" Sophia turned her head, pointing at Emma, her eyes full of accusation, "You bitch, how dare you come here and drive Anna away! This is Anna's home! Do you know what you're doing?"

Whenever Sophia showed her ferocious face to protect Anna, it made Emma both envious and heartbroken.

She didn't expect Sophia and Henry to love her dearly, but she didn't want to be scolded by Sophia either.

"You really are a loving mother," Emma held back the word "Mom" that was about to spill out, because she didn't want to call Sophia 'Mom'.

"Of course, I'm a good mother because Anna is the best daughter in the world! Isabella, I thought you were different from that Emma, but it turns out you're both bitches!"

"Enough!" George interrupted, "Mrs. Stuart, Isabella is my friend, please respect her."

"If you want me to respect her, then she has to earn it! A mistress who stole Anna's fiancé, what right does she have to be here!" Her voice got louder, filled with all her frustration and grievances.

"Mrs. Stuart, talking about mistresses, isn't Anna one? As far as I know, Mr. Russell's wife is Emma, not your daughter Anna. Anna herself is a mistress, so why is this relationship so justified in your eyes? In your heart, if Anna does it, then it's always right. Your behavior is double standards. That's ridiculous." Emma's smile carried a hint of sarcasm, "Mr. Russell, I really can't stay any longer, otherwise, in the future, I might even be driven out of Lakeside Haven by the Stuart family. For the sake of my business and life, it's better to keep some distance from you. I also hope Mr. Russell can control Anna and stop her from harassing me, OK?"

"No way," George blurted out, "As long as I'm around, I'll protect you."

Emma's smile faded completely. Three years after her death, she finally got George's protection.

George, was your love just a game?

Emma's eyes were cold and distant, showing no emotion. She turned and walked away; she'd had enough of this tiresome drama.

George thought she was mad and was about to comfort her, but Anna wasn't about to let that happen.

"George!" Anna's voice wavered, making her seem helpless. Her face went pale, and her eyes lost focus, like she was really sick. Then she fell back, closing her eyes with a pained look.

"Anna!" Sophia noticed something was off and quickly reached out to catch her. But Anna's body had already gone limp, and she collapsed. Sophia hurried to hold her up.

"Quick, call an ambulance!" Sophia shouted urgently.

"It's too late, I'll take her," George said coldly. Even though he sounded annoyed, he still stepped forward to pick Anna up.

Sophia, despite her frustration with him, nodded in agreement.

As George picked Anna up, a storm of emotions hit Emma.

George still couldn't let go of Anna. Even in the middle of a fight, Anna was still his favorite.

After things calmed down, Emma went upstairs alone to George's bedroom. On his bed, she found a few short hairs with follicles attached. She carefully collected them, then left the villa alone.

She wandered aimlessly in the yard. Suddenly, something familiar caught her eye in the damp soil. Looking down, she saw a shell, faintly glowing.

It was the shell she had given George when they were kids, once filled with her hopes and dreams for him. Now, seeing it brought back a flood of sweet memories and endless bitterness.

"How ridiculous. He's already forgotten me, so why keep it?" she murmured softly, then without hesitation, threw the shell away. It traced an arc in the air before landing in the soil with a faint thud, like it was announcing her farewell to the past.

George took Anna to the hospital, and Emma went home by herself.

Opening the door, she was greeted by a wave of warmth.

"You're back!" Michael walked out of the living room, his face lighting up with a warm smile.

Emma loved his voice the most; it was like the first breeze of spring, melting the ice and chasing away the gloom.

"How's Lucas?" Michael stepped forward, gently holding Emma's hand.

"Not good, but what do you expect with parents like George and Anna?" Emma sighed.
