Chapter 246 Donating Blood Again
Suddenly, the nurse remembered that time this beautiful woman donated blood for Lucas a few years ago.
She excitedly told Emma, "Oh my gosh, I remember now! It was you! After you donated blood for this kid, we wanted you to rest for a bit, but you just disappeared. You really did a good deed without leaving your name."
Everyone turned to Emma in shock, their eyes wide with astonishment.
A few years ago, wasn't it Anna who donated blood for Lucas? How did it become Emma?
"Are you sure it was her? No mistake?" Henry asked, clearly in disbelief.
"I remember it clearly; it was her! She's so beautiful, I couldn't forget. You should really thank this kind-hearted person," the nurse continued to chatter, but Sophia and Henry couldn't hear anything else.
Anna had clearly admitted it was her who donated blood to save Lucas. Why would she lie about something like that?
Lucas was her biological son!
They simultaneously thought back to how they not only didn't thank Emma but also scolded her harshly.
They wished they could go back in time and slap themselves for what they had done.
After donating blood, Emma collapsed on the couch, her face pale.
Sophia and Henry, filled with regret, carefully tended to Emma.
Meanwhile, Lyanna sat in a dimly lit room, her face full of disappointment and anger. Her plan should have been flawless, but it failed because of Emma's luck. She was filled with resentment, her fingers tapping the table unconsciously, lost in thought.
"Why did it turn out like this?" Lyanna muttered to herself, her eyes dark with malice. She had thought that tampering with the brakes would easily kill Isabella, but things didn't go as planned.
"They're actually fine, how infuriating!" Lyanna was furious, wanting to storm into the hospital and stab Isabella to avenge Molly.
Lyanna held a photo of Molly, pressing it to her chest and gently rubbing her face against it.
"Molly, don't worry. Next time, I'll succeed." Lyanna's eyes gleamed with sinister determination as she began to devise a new plan.
After receiving the blood, Lucas's condition started to improve, and Emma just needed to rest.
Sophia embraced Emma and Lucas with all her heart, realizing that the emptiness she once felt was now filled.
Just as their emotions began to calm, the arrival of the police shattered the peace.
"We received a report and need to investigate your car accident," an officer said as he entered the emergency room, his expression serious. He showed his badge to Emma and asked, "Can you describe the accident in detail?"
Emma nodded, trying to recall the scene, "We were driving on the overpass when the brakes suddenly failed. The driver tried desperately to control the car, but we lost control, and the car went off the road."
"Did you notice anything unusual? Any suspicious people around?" the officer continued.
"No, we were just driving normally," Emma shook her head.
The officer noted her response and then turned to the driver, "Did you notice any issues with the brake system before the accident?"
The driver, looking nervous, shook his head, "No, nothing. The car was checked before we left."
"Did you stop the car at any point?" the officer asked.
"Yeah, once. Ms. Taylor wanted to buy a cake for Lucas. I also got out to smoke a cigarette," the driver recalled. If the brakes were tampered with, it must have been then.
The police began reviewing the street surveillance footage from that time.
The officers focused intently, trying to find crucial clues.
"Here!" an officer suddenly pointed at the screen, his voice excited, "There's a suspicious person hanging around your car."
"Zoom in on that image," the detective ordered, and the screen zoomed in. As the image became clearer, they saw a person in a black jacket nervously approaching Emma's car, seemingly tampering with it.
"It looks like they're messing with the brake system," another officer added, his eyes sharp with alertness.
The detective's tone was grave, "This accident was deliberately planned."
The police quickly launched an investigation into the suspicious person. They reviewed surveillance footage around the overpass, looking for more clues. After hours of detailed analysis, they finally identified a suspect.
"We found some leads. This suspect used to work at a nearby auto shop and recently quit," an officer reported in the meeting room, a determined look on his face.
"Bring them in for questioning," the lead investigator ordered, sensing the complexity of the situation.
"Yes, sir." The officers moved swiftly.
Meanwhile, Emma and Lucas waited quietly in the hospital for news.
"Please stay in touch with us. If you have any information, provide it immediately," the officer said before leaving the hospital.
"Isabella, will the bad guy come after us again?" Lucas's young voice trembled with fear. He was still just a child, yet he had faced multiple murder attempts in a few short days.
"Don't worry, Lucas. I'll protect you," Emma held Lucas's hand, silently vowing that she wouldn't let anyone harm him.
They were placed in the same hospital room.
As night fell, the hospital room was quiet, with only the occasional sound of machines and distant whispers. Emma lay on the bed, uninjured but feeling uneasy. Beside her, Lucas tossed and turned, his small face full of anxiety, unable to sleep.
"Lucas, what's wrong? Can't sleep?" Emma asked softly, seeing the unease in Lucas's eyes, her heart tightening.
"I'm scared," Lucas's voice was weak, his eyes showing fear, "I keep thinking about the accident. It makes me feel awful."
Emma looked at him with compassion, gently pulling him into her arms. The warmth of her embrace gave Lucas a sense of security. She whispered, "It's okay, Lucas. I'm here. You don't have to be afraid."
"But it's still so scary," Lucas's voice was filled with helplessness as he clung tightly to Emma's hand, seeking comfort.
"I know, sweetie. But we're safe now. The police are handling it, and they won't let anything happen to us," Emma reassured him, her voice steady and soothing. "Try to get some sleep. I'll be right here with you."
Lucas nodded, his grip on her hand loosening slightly as he nestled closer. Emma stayed awake, watching over him, her mind racing with thoughts of how to keep him safe.
