Chapter 639 Stay Away

Emma's legs buckled, and she hit the marble floor hard. Tears streamed down her face, splashing onto the ground like shattered pearls.

"Michael," she gasped, struggling to get the words out, "please, let George go. I'll go back to Sunterra with you and never see him again. Just spare him and Seraphine."

Michael's eyes glinted dangerously as he looked down at her. He crouched, lifting her chin with his long fingers, forcing her to meet his gaze. "You're willing to throw away your last bit of pride for George?" His voice was low, dripping with mockery.

Emma's eyelashes fluttered, her vision blurred by tears. "If you promise me, I'll do whatever it takes," she whispered, her voice filled with resolve.

Michael stared at her for a long moment, his sharp eyes scanning her face.

Finally, he let go of her chin. "Alright, I promise." He stood, looking down at her. "But you have to come back to Sunterra with me and cut all ties with George. Only then will I let them go."

He leaned in close, his breath warm against her ear. "But remember," his voice turned icy, "if you contact him even once, I'll make George's life a living hell. I mean it."

Michael gave Emma two days to say goodbye to her parents, Sophia and Henry. During those two days, Emma forced herself to stay strong, spending time with Sophia, sharing meals and walks, always with a strained smile, never daring to reveal the truth.

"Emma, why have you been so distracted lately?" Sophia asked, holding Emma's hand, worry etched on her face. "Did you and George have a fight?"

Emma's fingers trembled, but she forced a brighter smile. "It's nothing, Mom." She lowered her eyes to hide the pain. "I might have to go to Sunterra with Michael for a while."

Henry put down his newspaper, his brows knitting together. He removed his reading glasses, looking sharply at Emma. "Emma, be straight with me. What's going on? You and George are married, so why are you suddenly going to Sunterra with Michael?"

Sophia set down her teacup, her concern deepening. "Yes, Emma, is something wrong between you and George?"

Emma took a deep breath, her nails digging into her palm to keep her focused. She lifted her head, forcing herself to meet her parents' eyes. "Dad, Mom, my marriage to George was a setup from the start."

"What?" Sophia exclaimed, nearly knocking over her cup.

"I approached George, made him fall in love with me, all to get revenge on him." Emma's voice was eerily calm. "I wanted him to feel the pain of being abandoned by the one he loves most."

Henry's face turned pale. "Emma! Do you realize what you're saying?"

"I know exactly what I'm saying." A flash of determination crossed Emma's eyes. "George hurt me once, and I'm just making him taste heartbreak."

Sophia shook her head in disbelief. "No, I don't believe it. You're not that kind of person."

"Mom, people change." Emma stood up, avoiding Sophia's outstretched hand. "I've made up my mind. I'm going to Sunterra with Michael. That's final."

Sophia watched Emma's determined back, filled with doubt. She knew her daughter; Emma was kind-hearted. How could she do something like this?

"Henry," Sophia turned to her husband, "do you think Emma's telling the truth?"

Henry thought for a moment, then shook his head. "It doesn't seem like it. I know Emma, she's not the type to play with emotions. There must be something else going on."

Sophia sighed. "I think so too, but she's so determined."

"Let her calm down." Henry patted Sophia's hand. "Maybe she'll come to her senses after some time."

Late at night, Sophia stood by the bedroom window and noticed a familiar car parked outside the estate gates. By the light of the streetlamp, she recognized it as George's car.

"Henry!" Sophia hurriedly woke her husband. "Look, George's car is outside!"

Henry walked to the window, indeed seeing George's car parked there, its headlights still on. "When did George get here?"

Sophia said worriedly, "It's so late, and it's raining outside."

She hesitated, then picked up the phone to call Emma. "Emma, George's car is still outside. Do you want to..."

"No." Emma's voice was cold as ice. "Mom, don't let him in."

Sophia wanted to say more, but the call was already disconnected. She sighed helplessly and told Henry, "Emma doesn't want to see him."

Henry shook his head. "Let the young people handle their own issues."

The rain poured harder, the large drops hitting the car roof with a dull thud. George sat inside, his eyes red, his fingers tapping the steering wheel unconsciously.

He had been waiting here for two whole days, yet he couldn't muster the courage to ring the doorbell. He feared hearing Emma say those cruel words, feared seeing those once-loving eyes now filled with coldness.

"Emma," he whispered, his voice drowned out by the rain.

The car's heater had long been turned off, the cold gradually seeping in. But George seemed oblivious to the chill, his mind entirely occupied by the heartless Emma who had left him.

He couldn't believe Emma would do this to him. Those sweet memories, those loving glances, were they all fake?

As dawn broke, Sophia returned to the window. To her shock, George's car was still there, and the tall figure was standing in the rain, letting the water soak him completely.

"Oh my God," Sophia covered her mouth, "has he been standing there all night?"

She hurriedly grabbed her coat to go outside, but Henry stopped her at the door. "Don't go."

"But Henry..."

"Emma has clearly said she doesn't want to see him." Henry said sternly. "We need to respect her decision."

Sophia stomped her foot in frustration. "But look at him, he's..."

Henry sighed. "The more outsiders interfere in matters of the heart, the messier it gets. Let them sort it out themselves."

As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the clouds, George finally moved his stiff body. His suit was soaked, his hair messily plastered to his forehead, looking utterly disheveled.
