Chapter 288 Flirting
George and Emma were flirting openly, and none of the regular employees dared to glance their way. They kept their heads down, almost buried in their work.
Since the documents needed Joshua's signature, George used the excuse of being familiar with the company to take Emma to the office to find Joshua.
As they left the administrative office, the employees finally dared to pause their work and all eyes turned to the door.
"Oh my God, Mr. Russell is so sweet!" one employee whispered in amazement, her eyes sparkling with disbelief.
"Yeah, I always thought he was a cold and ruthless CEO, but he seems to care so much about Mrs. Russell," another employee couldn't help but remark, her impression of George instantly changing.
"They're so cute together, it makes me want to fall in love! God, please give me a boyfriend as sweet and rich as Mr. Russell," a new girl in the department prayed with her arms outstretched.
A colleague next to her laughed and interrupted, "Enough already. Guys like Mr. Russell, who are handsome, young, and rich, are rare in all of Lakeside Haven. Mrs. Russell, with her exceptional charm and talent, was the only one who could tame him. We ordinary folks shouldn't even dream about it. By the way, I have a single friend. Want to meet him?"
The girl asked scornfully, "Can he pay off my housing mortgage?"
"No."
"Then forget it." The girl replied.
With that, the two of them slumped over their desks, feeling dejected. Love was for the rich; employees like them were only meant to work, not to fall in love.
While the company employees were still envious of George and Emma's perfect romance, Phoenix had already rushed to The Russell Mansion to complain to Scarlett.
Today was the day Scarlett was hosting a tea party at her home. She had invited a group of friends over and was happily chatting when Phoenix burst into the living room.
She pushed the door open with a loud bang. Her face was streaked with tears, her hair was disheveled, and her clothes were wrinkled from running, making her look extremely bedraggled.
"Aunt Scarlett," Phoenix's voice trembled, almost a heart-wrenching cry. She clung to the doorframe, her body shaking slightly, her face pale, and her eyes filled with terror, as if she might collapse at any moment.
God knows what she had been through on her way here. She even saw Emma's billboard and advertisements on the roadside. Everyone seemed to think it was perfectly normal to see Emma!
But it wasn't normal at all. Emma was a ghost!
She was dead!
Phoenix's clothes had a few smudges, indicating she had bumped into something in her haste, her disheveled appearance a stark contrast to her usual elegance.
Scarlett looked up in surprise. Although she knew Phoenix was coming today and had sent a car to pick her up, she had expected to welcome a wealthy heiress, not someone who looked like a beggar.
For a moment, she didn't recognize her. " How dare you barge into my house! Security, get her out of here."
"Aunt Scarlett, it's me, Phoenix."
The familiar voice brought Scarlett back to her senses. She tentatively asked, "Phoenix, what happened to you?"
Although Scarlett was only Phoenix's aunt, Phoenix had grown up by her side. Scarlett admired and loved Phoenix, treating her like her own daughter.
If Phoenix and George weren't close relatives, she would have loved for Phoenix to be her daughter-in-law.
Seeing Phoenix in such a sorry state, Scarlett frowned, feeling a bit displeased. She had so many friends around, and she had just been praising Phoenix's elegance. Now, Phoenix was making a scene.
How could she face her friends in the future?
Thinking this, she lost some of her warmth towards Phoenix.
Phoenix didn't notice Scarlett's change in attitude. Instead, she clung to her, crying out, "Aunt Scarlett, save me. I saw a ghost. Emma has come back for revenge."
The ladies present exchanged glances. One of them couldn't help but laugh, but quickly realized it was impolite and composed herself, looking at Phoenix with concern.
"What exactly happened? Tell us slowly."
With familiar faces around, Phoenix finally relaxed and recounted her recent experience.
The ladies finally understood what had happened and began explaining to Phoenix. Only then did Phoenix realize that Isabella and Emma were two different people. After Emma's death, George had married Isabella.
Phoenix thought bitterly, 'I know Emma is a Siren, and Isabella, who looks just like her, can't be any better.'
Scarlett's face was even darker than Phoenix's. George marrying Isabella was one thing, but now Isabella had shamelessly joined the Russell Group!
Didn't she have her own business? Why did she have to meddle in the Russell Group? Scarlett knew all gold diggers were the same. Isabella claimed to be an independent woman, but she was just a gold digger with a bit of money.
Isabella was seducing George for his money, and George, being naive, hadn't seen through her yet.
As a mother-in-law, Scarlett couldn't directly go to George's house to trouble Isabella. But now it was different. She had shares in the Russell Group. As a shareholder, she could certainly make things difficult for an ordinary employee, and no one would dare to speak up about it.
But she needed help.
"Phoenix, you'll start working at the Russell Group tomorrow. I'll arrange for you to be George's personal assistant. You must help me keep that little tramp away. Damn it, the company is no place for a gold digger to seduce men!"
"Don't worry, Aunt Scarlett. I won't let her get close to George!"
Meantime, Emma was diligently working and learning management skills, and the Russell family was already plotting to drive her out of the Russell Group.
The next morning.
Phoenix arrived at the Russell Group. After yesterday's drama, many employees recognized her and knew she was George's cousin, so her onboarding process went smoothly.
However, almost everyone was puzzled by the large, out-of-place package Phoenix carried, adorned with strange patterns. What was she planning to do at the Russell Group?
