Chapter 236 Recognizing a Daughter
As soon as Jerry saw Emma, he spun around, his eyes blazing with anger. "You don't recognize me as your father? I've sacrificed so much for you, raised you all these years, and now you won't even take care of me? And you dare deny that I'm your father? You're a heartless bitch!"
Emma looked Jerry up and down coldly for a moment before pretending to have a sudden realization. "Oh, I remember now. You're not a stranger. I do know you."
"Now you admit it?" Jerry stepped forward, trying to grab Emma's hand. "Come on, let's go home!"
Emma didn't forcefully shake off Jerry's hand. Instead, she called for security. Two tall, handsome security guards immediately stepped forward, each grabbing one of Jerry's arms and pulling him away from Emma.
"Emma, are you crazy? How dare you use violence against me! Tell them to let me go!" Jerry shouted wildly.
"I only said I remembered you. I never said you were my father." Emma stood just out of Jerry's reach, close enough to provoke his rage but far enough to stay safe.
"Everyone knows you're Anna's father. Now that Anna's in jail and you can't benefit from her, you expect me to support you? But I'm not your daughter." Emma exposed Jerry's intentions directly.
Jerry couldn't admit his shady motives. He angrily pulled a photo from his bag and held it up. "Look, this is a picture of us as a family! How can you deny it?"
The photo showed four people: Jerry, Olivia, and Anna smiling sweetly together, with Emma standing alone in the corner.
Seeing Emma in the photo, the surrounding onlookers began to whisper. Some sympathized with Jerry, while others were annoyed by his antics.
At that moment, a bystander stepped forward, breaking the tension. "This photo proves nothing! Everyone at Lakeside Haven knows Isabella just returned from Sunterra. She was often mistaken for Mr. Russell's ex-wife Emma because they look so alike. Clearly, that's Emma in the photo, not Isabella."
Jerry turned furiously to the bystander. "What do you know? How can you say she's not my daughter?"
Jerry's voice grew louder, attracting more onlookers. Though restrained by the security guards, he shouted hoarsely, "Isabella is my daughter!"
Emma knew Jerry was trying to threat her.
He knew Emma didn't want to reveal her true identity, so he was using the photo to force her hand.
But she wouldn't give in so easily.
First, she wanted to see what Jerry was planning.
Feigning nervousness, she reached for the photo in Jerry's hand. Despite his age, Jerry's grip was strong, and he held onto the photo tightly. In the struggle, the photo tore in half.
Jerry went berserk. "You ruined my daughter's photo!" he tried to attack Emma, but the security guards pinned him to the ground. Unable to move, Jerry resorted to threats. "Isabella, you tore the photo to hide the truth. Just admit it, you are Em—"
A dirty rag was suddenly stuffed into Jerry's mouth, cutting off his words. Though he was furious, he soon became excited. Emma didn't want him to expose her identity publicly, which meant he had leverage over her. With this, he could extort endless wealth from her. Soon, this store would be his! Jerry grinned foolishly at the thought.
Emma, too, smirked subtly, then pretended to be anxious as she approached Jerry and whispered in his ear, "Don't say anything more. Let's talk this out. We can work something out."
Jerry nodded eagerly.
Emma dismissed the crowd and had the security guards escort Jerry to her office. Once the door was closed, she removed the rag from his mouth but left his hands tied.
"Tell me, what do you want to keep quiet?" Emma asked directly.
Jerry's demeanor suddenly changed, a hint of desperation in his eyes. "I really need your help right now. My company went bankrupt, and I need a large sum of money to get through this."
An idea suddenly struck Emma. If she helped Jerry, it could be the perfect opportunity to destroy the Jones family once and for all.
"How much do you need?" Emma asked, feigning concern.
"At least five million dollars to survive this crisis," Jerry pleaded, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
Emma smiled slightly, her plan forming.
"I can give you the money, but it will take some time to gather. I hope you understand," Emma continued. "I might even consider investing more in your company to help you out."
Jerry's eyes lit up with surprise. "Really? You'd invest in my company?"
Emma nodded. "Yes, but I need a detailed plan and budget to decide how much to invest."
To convince Jerry, Emma pulled a $50,000 check from her wallet and handed it to him. "Take this for now."
Jerry accepted the check, his face beaming with joy. He couldn't believe Emma was so supportive! She was just as gullible as she was years ago!
Satisfied, Jerry turned to leave, still urging, "Hurry up, my company is very popular. If you invest too late, you'll miss out."
"I'll gather the money as soon as possible." Emma watched Jerry leave, determined to see him bankrupt.
"Let's see if he can wait for my investment," Emma muttered with a cold smile, returning to her office. She sat at her desk, fingers tapping lightly, a calm smirk on her face.
Jerry was her dear foster father. How could she not help him in his time of need?
"Jacob, you're here," Emma said, looking up as Jerry's old friend Jacob Foster entered, a sly smile on his face.
"Ms. Taylor, what can I do for you?" Jacob bowed obsequiously.
"I need you to lead Jerry astray," Emma's voice was low and firm. "Get him hooked on gambling, make him lose his mind, and then have him mortgage his company."
