Chapter 179 There's Another Person

Maybe her words struck a chord with George. He remembered the tombstone he had put up for Emma in the cemetery and smiled.

"If I can die by your hand, I would be willing," he said.

"Hypocrite." Emma tossed the knife aside, the metal clanging on the ground. She looked at George lying there and said sternly, "Don't worry, George. I won't let you die. I want you to live and feel the pain."

Emma did all this without hiding from Elizabeth.

For some reason, she felt a natural trust in Elizabeth, who didn't interfere at all, her face expressionless.

Seeing that Emma had vented her anger, Elizabeth slowly walked over, kicked the pursuer, stripped him of his clothes, and used them to tie him up tightly.

But Elizabeth didn't kill the pursuer; maybe she wanted him alive. She could have taken out the pursuer herself, but when it came to George, she was unsure.

She looked at Emma blankly and asked, "Should we kill him?"

As she said this, Elizabeth still had those innocent, pitiful big eyes, her gaze clear as if she had never been tainted by society. But her words were shocking and terrifying, like she was talking about killing a fish, not a person.

Emma said, "Don't kill him; he might be useful."

"Okay."

Emma and Elizabeth were pretty open with each other. Despite their innocent looks, both were ruthless inside. Maybe that's why they could be friends.

Emma felt she had never been so in sync with anyone, not even Mia. Although she could risk her life to save her, they couldn't take revenge together.

Mia was too good, her life too simple. She had never faced such bloodshed and darkness, so she couldn't do it. But Elizabeth was different. She seemed to have grown up in such an environment, perfectly adapted.

At that moment, Elizabeth squatted down and searched George's body, finally finding a phone in his pocket, but it still had no signal.

Elizabeth cursed softly and put the phone back in George's pocket.

Emma noticed that Elizabeth didn't touch George directly with her hands during the whole process but used her sleeve, seemingly to avoid leaving fingerprints.

As they considered how to safely leave the basement, a bunch of footsteps approached.

They didn't know if the people coming were friends or foes, so they just quietly waited for the unknown to arrive.

The footsteps got closer, and Emma listened carefully. She heard a voice she would never forget—it was Anna.

Anna was cursing, "How could you let Isabella escape? If you don't catch her, forget about the rest of your payment! No one in Lakeside Haven defies me!" Anna's laugh was full of mockery. "If you piss me off, I'll make sure you all die!"

Anna's high heels clicked on the ground, sounding like a call from hell.

With Anna's team so close, Emma and Elizabeth couldn't talk. Emma made a few hand signals, which Elizabeth understood immediately.

They turned George over so he was face down, making it harder for Anna to recognize him at first glance. Then they tiptoed into a room they had missed earlier, hiding behind the door in silence. They stayed there, quietly listening to Anna's movements.

When George arrived, he had a flashlight, but it fell during the fight with the pursuers. Being cheaply made, it broke when it hit the ground. Though the light was dim, it was enough to see by.

Emma and Elizabeth had moved using this faint light, which was too weak to catch Anna's attention.

When they arrived, they saw two men lying on the ground.

"What's this?" Anna asked.

One was George, and the other was the assassin sent to kill Elizabeth!

The kidnappers Anna hired didn't recognize them, but they had to think fast.

A scar-faced man named Levi Morgan quickly made up identities for George and the assassin.

"These are the two we sent after Isabella when we found out she escaped." He crouched down to check their injuries, finding them pretty bad. It was clear they got hurt in a fight.

But he didn't tell Anna that; instead, he blamed it all on Isabella. "Their injuries are serious, and there's no one else here but Isabella. She must've done this!"

As Levi spoke, he seemed to buy his own story, angrily telling Anna, "Didn't you say she was just a regular jewelry designer? How could she hurt my guys like this? Did you give us bad info? Why are you setting us up? How are you gonna make up for these two lives?"

Anna was caught off guard. She hadn't expected Levi to deceive her and actually question Isabella's identity.

Isabella was indeed suspicious. A new designer who had quickly risen in the jewelry world, winning awards, looked exactly like Emma.

This made Anna wonder if Isabella was Emma back from the dead to get revenge. A cold wind blew through the corridor, and both Anna and the hidden Emma and Elizabeth felt it.

Emma shivered from the cold, while Elizabeth's eyes lit up with excitement. She wanted to explain something to Emma, but now wasn't the time to talk. She could only smile, waiting for the right moment to share the good news.

Elizabeth pulled a long hair from her head, holding it and letting it drift in the wind. Seeing her actions, Emma got her intention. If they were in an enclosed space with only one exit, there wouldn't be any airflow.

This meant there was another exit somewhere in the basement, providing ventilation. That might be their only hope for escape.

While the others were arguing about compensation, Elizabeth seized every moment to find another exit.

Emma and Elizabeth had given up hope on the initial entrance. Not only were there likely many guards left by Anna in the abandoned building, but there were also at least three strong men in the basement.

How could they possibly fight them?

Even escaping would be tough, so they had to find a special way out.

"Two lives. How about $1 million? If that's enough, get to work and stop wasting time!" Anna's attitude infuriated Levi. They were hired, not her servants. How could she talk to them like that?

Levi wasn't the only one upset; his companions also glared at Anna. Just because she had money, she thought she could be so arrogant?

In this place, if they really wanted to harm Anna, she wouldn't be able to resist at all!

Rape was nothing new to them.

The tall kidnapper Elliot Sullivan smiled, his lecherous and greedy eyes lingering on Anna's low-cut dress.
