Chapter 127 Transfer to Another Hospital

It was pretty late when Emma finally got home. She knew Lucas was Anna's kid, therefore, being with Seraphine was way more important.

When she walked in, Seraphine was already fast asleep, a sweet little smile playing on her lips even in her dreams.

Her long lashes rested gently on her eyelids, fluttering a bit with each breath. Her soft hair was spread out on the pillow, giving off a faint milky scent. Her tiny hands were curled up by her cheeks, with her fingertips slightly pink.

Every now and then, she'd turn over lightly in her sleep, mumbling something like she was sharing a secret with her dream friends.

The whole room was bathed in a soft light, casting a golden glow on her face. Watching her sleep so peacefully, Emma felt a warm glow in her heart. Seraphine was the cutest thing in the world.

Emma's thoughts drifted back to Lucas. Maybe because Lucas and Seraphine were both George's kids, they looked a bit alike.

Every time Emma looked at Lucas, a voice in her head reminded her that Lucas and Anna were different people, and she couldn't be too hard on him. So, she'd soften up every time she saw his longing eyes.

She'd given in so many times already; one more wouldn't hurt. She decided she'd visit him again tomorrow.

The next morning, Emma dropped Seraphine off at kindergarten and headed straight to the hospital.

Before she even got to the ward, she heard a heart-wrenching cough. She couldn't believe how Lucas's little body could handle such pain. She rushed in and saw a bunch of doctors around the lonely Lucas.

The nurse on duty thought Emma was Lucas's mom and couldn't help but scold her. "What kind of mother are you? Where did you go? Don't you know you can't leave a little kid alone?"

"I'm sorry." Before Emma could finish, Lucas started to explain in between coughs. "Don't blame Isabella. She's not my mom."

Lucas hung his head sadly, wishing Isabella really was his mom.

The nurse realized her mistake and softened her tone. "Sorry, then who are you?"

Emma replied, "I'm a friend of his dad's. You can tell me anything."

The doctor told the nurse to take good care of Lucas, then called Emma out to the hallway for a chat.

In the hallway, the doctor, looking serious, explained Lucas's condition to Emma. She listened, feeling uneasy.

"From what we can tell, his symptoms show signs of a respiratory infection, with a high fever and constant coughing. We think it might be acute bronchitis caused by a virus, especially since kids are more prone to infections this time of year," the doctor said.

He added, "His white blood cell count is up, which means there's probably an infection. The chest X-ray showed some lung infiltration, which suggests pneumonia."

He continued, "We recommend transferring Lucas to Happy Hearts Kids Clinic, where they have better equipment and specialized pediatricians."

"Before the transfer, we'll give Lucas the necessary supportive treatment, like fluids, fever reducers, and antiviral meds. We'll also keep a close eye on his vital signs," the doctor finished.

Following the doctor's advice, Emma knew she had to move fast. She quickly packed up Lucas's stuff.

Seeing her pack, Lucas got a bit anxious, not sure what was going on.

He'd been in the hospital before. He remembered a kid in the next ward who was really sick. Lucas used to visit him every day to play.

But one day, that kid was gone, and his parents were packing up. Lucas didn't know what had happened, so he asked the nurse.

The nurse said, "He died, went to another world."

Back then, Lucas was too young to get what death meant, but now he did.

Lucas asked, "Isabella, am I going to die?"

"Don't be silly. We're just going to a better hospital. Don't worry, I'll be with you the whole time. And when Seraphine gets out of school, she'll come see you too." Emma reassured him and kept packing.

At the hospital reception, Emma explained the situation to the nurse, who quickly started preparing for the transfer. They filled out the necessary forms in no time. The nurse's quick and efficient actions gave Emma some comfort.

"Please wait a moment, we'll arrange an ambulance to take you and Lucas," the nurse said with a warm smile. Emma nodded, silently praying everything would go smoothly.

Soon, the ambulance arrived at the hospital entrance. The paramedics got out and started getting ready for the transfer. They carefully pushed the stretcher into the ward, making sure Lucas wouldn't be jostled during the move.

"Don't worry. We'll monitor his vital signs the whole way," a young nurse assured Emma, then started hooking Lucas up to the monitoring equipment.

Emma held Lucas's small hand tightly, feeling his faint warmth, her heart aching.

She softly comforted him, "Lucas, we're going to a better hospital soon. I'll be with you the whole time."

Lucas opened his eyes a bit, still looking tired. But with Emma's encouragement, he managed a faint smile.

With the help of the medical staff, Lucas was carefully placed on the stretcher and moved into the ambulance. Emma followed closely, sitting beside him.

The ambulance doors closed, and Emma felt the tension in the air.

It towards Happy Hearts Kids Clinic.

Inside, the medical staff kept in constant contact with the hospital, giving real-time updates on Lucas's condition. Emma held Lucas's hand tightly, watching him closely.

After a bumpy ride, the ambulance finally arrived at Happy Hearts Kids Clinic. The medical staff quickly lifted Lucas off the stretcher and wheeled him into the emergency room. Emma followed right behind.

The hospital acted fast, completing Lucas's transfer within an hour.

During this time, Emma and the medical staff made countless calls to George, but no one ever answered.

Emma even swallowed her disgust and called Anna, but she didn't pick up either.

A mocking smile appeared on Emma's lips. Last night, George was drunk out of his mind, and Anna had her own agenda. What they were up to was pretty obvious.

'They're just two irrational animals thinking with their lower bodies,' Emma couldn't help but curse in her heart.
