Chapter 291 Overpowering
Time seemed to crawl. At first, Scarlett sat calmly in her chair, but as the minutes dragged on, she grew more and more restless. Her elegant posture faltered, and she couldn't sit still.
First, she fidgeted in her seat, constantly shifting and crossing her legs. No position felt comfortable, and her irritation grew.
She muttered to herself, "Where the hell is that bitch Isabella?"
"Where did she go? How dare she leave her post during work hours! I will definitely fire her." Scarlett's temper flared. It wasn't that she cared about Isabella slacking off; in fact, she preferred it. But now, with Isabella taking so long to return, Scarlett had no one to vent her anger on.
Just as Scarlett's legs were going numb, Emma finally returned. She had received a heads-up from a colleague but had been tied up with urgent matters and couldn't come back immediately.
Emma's mood lifted instantly when she saw the chaotic office and Scarlett's frosty expression.
Emma thought, 'Perfect, another chance to pit them against each other.'
Scarlett said angrily, "Busy woman, you still have time to come back? Do you even remember you have a job? With your attitude, I'm firing you right now!"
"You waited all this time just to tell me you're firing me?" Emma asked with a smirk, her tone further infuriating Scarlett.
"Don't get cocky, Isabella. I'm not just firing you; I'm going to make sure you can't survive in Lakeside Haven. I'll shut your Miss Lady boutique down right now."
"Is that so? Let's see if you have the guts."
Emma wasn't worried at all. She had the confidence to open her Miss Lady boutique right under the Russell Group's nose.
"Don't think just because my son is protecting you, I won't dare to touch you."
Scarlett's bravado was met with Emma's calm demeanor. Emma stepped closer, looking down at Scarlett.
Scarlett maintained her upward gaze, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. How could she let Isabella outshine her?
So Scarlett stood up, matching Emma's stance.
If their anger could be made tangible, the office roof would have blown off.
Emma's face grew colder, but suddenly, she seemed to think of something and laughed.
"Why are you doing this, Mom?"
That single word, "Mom," was like a spark igniting a fuse. Scarlett exploded. "Don't call me that. I don't acknowledge you as my daughter-in-law."
"Really? But George and I are married. George's mom is my mom. If you're not George's mom, then who are you? His father's mistress? Sorry, but mistresses don't have the authority to kick me out of the Russell Group. You've hidden it well all these years. I had no idea you were a mistress. No wonder you always favored Anna; birds of a feather flock together. It's such a shame about Anna; she's in a really tough spot. I hope you can fend for yourself."
Emma's words left Scarlett speechless. She was the legitimate Mrs. Russell, yet Emma made her sound like a mistress.
"How dare you call me a mistress! What nonsense are you spouting? Just wait, I'll tear that filthy mouth of yours apart!"
Scarlett lunged at Emma, but Emma sidestepped, and Scarlett fell hard onto the scattered items on the floor.
Scarlett's pain stripped away her composure. Her rationality ebbing as her anger surged.
"Security! Call security! Get this bitch out of here! I'm a shareholder, and I want her fired!" Scarlett shouted.
The Russell Group's security was top-notch, with guards patrolling every floor. Hearing Scarlett's call, two guards rushed in. They recognized Scarlett but not Emma.
As they moved to restrain Emma, she pulled out a document from her bag. "Take a good look. What is this?"
Scarlett replied disdainfully, "I don't care what it is. You bitch, nothing you show will help."
Emma said confidently, "Really? Then you'd better take a close look."
Emma shoved the document in Scarlett's face. Scarlett turned away but caught sight of the title: [Share Transfer Agreement.]
Scarlett, now frantic, grabbed the document and read it word by word.
George had transferred part of the Russell Group's shares to Isabella? That was 20%—Scarlett only had 5%!
Emma was now a bigger shareholder than Scarlett!
"This can't be. It's fake. You're lying. How could our family's shares be transferred to an outsider?" Scarlett shook her head in disbelief and said,
Emma leaned in close to Scarlett's ear and whispered, "You should ask your precious son."
Emma stood up and added, "Mrs. Scarlett Russell, do you still want to fight me? You need to face the facts. There's no way you can win. Now, can you have someone put my things back? After all, in the Russell Group, what I say carries more influence than what you say."
Emma turned and left without looking back. She knew Scarlett wouldn't restore her belongings.
But Scarlett was still George's mother, and Emma and George hadn't officially fallen out yet. As George's wife, Emma had to show some respect.
As long as she could use George to humble Scarlett and make her suffer because of George, that was enough.
Emma wasn't worried about what Scarlett might do to reclaim the shares. She had people inside the Russell Mansion.
Scarlett couldn't beat her. If Emma wanted, she could wipe out the entire Russell family, but that would be too quick and painless.
George's gift to Emma that afternoon was the share transfer agreement. Emma had been finalizing the paperwork, which was why she hadn't returned to her desk immediately.
George originally held 70% of the shares. After transferring 20% to Emma, he was left with 50%. Though still the largest shareholder, George's influence remained significant, and Emma was still trying to acquire more shares.
