Chapter 229 Involvement
"Isabella knew you'd come to save her, so she gave me her tracker," Lucas said, holding up a small electronic device. "She mentioned that even if the kidnappers move her, we can still find her exact location and rescue her."
Joshua plugged the device into his laptop, and soon a map appeared on the screen with a blinking red dot, which was Isabella's location.
Joshua zoomed in on the map, and Isabella's location showed up at Lakeside Haven, not far from where they were.
"Let's go!" Joshua floored the gas pedal, and the scenery outside the window blurred as they sped by.
"Lucas, what about the guy who saved you?" George asked. "His timing was too perfect. We need to be cautious."
"He dropped me off at the front door and left. I don't know where he went or even his name," Lucas said, his voice trembling.
He lowered his head in shame, feeling useless and blaming himself for Isabella's predicament.
George gently ruffled Lucas's hair in a comforting gesture.
He was just a kid in elementary school. It was already impressive that he had the presence of mind to come back for help. They couldn't expect more from him.
George suddenly remembered that Isabella had once mentioned Lucas was sensitive and had some psychological issues. She had advised him to be encouraging when dealing with Lucas. George wasn't good at offering encouragement, but he remembered Isabella's words and how much she cared for Lucas.
For Isabella's sake, he was willing to try.
"Lucas, you're very brave. You're a little hero."
It was the first time Lucas had heard George praise him, and his big eyes filled with tears. George was momentarily taken aback by how much those eyes resembled Emma's.
Joshua drove fast.
Under the cover of night, they quickly made their way to the location indicated by the tracker. As they got closer, George's sense of urgency grew, his mind filled with worry for Isabella's safety.
"There, up ahead!" Lucas pointed to a dimly lit alley, his voice tense.
George took a deep breath, checked the tracking system to confirm Isabella's location, and then charged in without hesitation.
In the alley, a few thugs were surrounding a figure collapsed on the ground—it was Isabella. Her clothes were torn, and her face was covered in bruises, making her look pitiful. The thugs were laughing at her, seemingly enjoying their cruelty.
"Let her go!" George roared, his voice thunderous, drawing everyone's attention.
The thugs turned to see George, their faces showing disdain.
"Who are you? Get lost! None of your business!" one of the thugs sneered, stepping forward with an iron rod in hand, ready to fight.
"Let her go now, or you'll regret it!" George said fearlessly, stepping up to the challenge.
"Who do you think you are? What a fool!" the thugs mocked, preparing to surround him.
Just then, Joshua rushed in, positioning himself in front of George as a shield.
The two worked in perfect sync. George swiftly took down the first thug with a precise strike, then turned to deal with the second, his movements quick and decisive, like a beast.
"Want more?" George shouted.
The thugs, intimidated by his presence, hesitated and stepped back.
"Get out of here!" George yelled to Isabella.
Emma looked up, her eyes filled with gratitude and surprise. Despite her weakness, she struggled to move towards George. At that moment, the thugs attacked again, trying to encircle them.
"You guys are asking for it!" Joshua shouted, charging at them without hesitation, his movements agile and swift, giving the thugs no chance to retaliate.
"Split up and scatter them!" George commanded. Joshua nodded, and they quickly separated, attacking from different directions.
As the thugs were overwhelmed by George and Joshua's fierce assault, the sound of police sirens suddenly filled the air. Several police cars sped into the alley. Officers quickly got out and moved towards the thugs, starting to arrest them.
"You're under arrest! Drop your weapons now!" the officers shouted. The thugs, realizing they were outmatched, tried to flee but it was too late.
The chaos in the alley gradually subsided as the police handcuffed the thugs and took them away.
George, Joshua, Lucas, and Emma were also taken to the police station.
In the backseat of the car, the city lights blurred past the window. Joshua focused on driving, occasionally glancing at the others in the rearview mirror. George sat next to Emma, holding a small first aid kit, his heart filled with concern and pain.
"Does it hurt?" George asked softly, his eyes tender as they fell on her bandaged wrist. The white bandage barely concealed the wounds, making his heart ache.
"A little, but it doesn't matter," Emma smiled faintly, trying to appear relaxed.
Her smile was tinged with defiance, but her eyes betrayed her vulnerability.
"How could it not matter?" George's voice was low, tinged with reproach.
He gently took her hand, feeling her warmth, a mix of comfort and sorrow filling his heart. He carefully opened the first aid kit, taking out antiseptic wipes and ointment, his movements gentle and meticulous.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Emma said, looking at George, pretending not to care.
"I don't want to see you hurt again," George said, focusing on cleaning her wounds, his fingers brushing her skin with a warm touch.
Emma's heart raced, her cheeks flushing slightly. She felt his tender gaze and delicate touch, a wave of warmth washing over her. But then, the warmth turned to disgust.
No matter how badly she was hurt before, George never cared. Now, with just a minor injury, he was showing her such tenderness.
It seemed that not loving a man was the way to win his heart.
"You're always so caring," Emma said softly, her eyes shining with gratitude. "I really appreciate it."
"Because you're important to me," George said, his eyes filled with emotion. His fingers gently caressed her wrist, treating it like a precious artifact. Emma's cheeks blushed.
"George..." she whispered, her voice filled with a mix of hope and anxiety.
"Don't worry, I'll always be here for you," George said, his gaze firm, as if making a promise.
His fingers pressed lightly on the bandage, careful not to cause her pain.
"You're so kind." Emma's eyes met George's, her gaze filled with tenderness that struck a chord in George's heart.
