Chapter 286 Cousin

Time was tight, so it was understandable that the event felt a bit rushed. The fact that George had put in the effort was enough to make Phoenix ecstatic.

"Miss, when do you want to finish your onboarding?" the receptionist asked politely.

"Right now," Phoenix replied calmly, though her heart was already with George. It turned out George had been thinking about her too, arranging for her to join the Russell Group as soon as she got back to the country.

She was about to see George!

"You handle the paperwork. I'm going to see George," she said.

"Of course, Miss. Please follow me," the receptionist said, bowing deeply and leading the way with utmost respect, even more so than they showed George. They had heard about Isabella's importance to George and his passionate actions for love.

As small employees, they wouldn't dare to provoke George's wife.

Phoenix walked towards the elevator, feeling the eyes of everyone she passed. Her pride swelled, feeling like she was the center of the company.

However, one person stood straight, neither bowing nor showing any respect, just looking at Phoenix indifferently.

Phoenix sensed a challenge. "You, come here!"

"Me?" Emma pointed to herself.

"Yes, you!" Phoenix indifferently nodded.

Emma obediently walked over, curious about what this strange woman wanted.

Phoenix looked Emma up and down, jealousy flaring at her beautiful face. How could this woman be so pretty? She couldn't allow such a beautiful woman in George's company!

Anger and dissatisfaction flashed in Phoenix's eyes.

Emma's pure beauty was like a thorn in Phoenix's heart. She wanted to ruin Emma's face, leaving a scar that would forever prevent her from attracting George!

George should only have eyes for her!

Phoenix angrily approached Emma, ready to teach her a lesson. But just as she raised her hand, Emma swiftly slapped her across the face.

The crisp sound echoed in the lobby, drawing everyone's attention.

Phoenix was stunned, her face flushing as tears welled up. She clutched her face, tears streaming down. She raised her hand again, aiming for Emma's hair, but Emma quickly grabbed her wrist, overpowering her.

Emma twisted Phoenix's arm, leaving her defenseless.

Phoenix felt humiliated and furious, never imagining she'd be overpowered by a mere employee. Anger overwhelmed her, clouding her judgment.

"Security! Get her out of here!" Phoenix shouted.

The security guards, snapping out of their daze, rushed over to stop the conflict. But just as they were about to act, a cold voice froze everyone in place.

"What's going on here?"

George had arrived.

When Emma and Phoenix first clashed, the receptionist immediately called George: "Mr. Russell, Mrs. Russell is in trouble! Please come to the lobby!"

George, busy in his office, dropped everything and hurried to the lobby. He pushed through the crowd, and before he could find Emma, Phoenix, tearful, rushed to him. "George, she hit me! She's too much!"

But George didn't comfort Phoenix. Instead, he pushed her away with disdain and went to Emma, asking with concern, "Isabella, are you okay?"

Emma shook her head. "I'm fine."

The employees were stunned by the scene.

Phoenix, full of anger and grievance, cried out, "George, who is she? Why do you care about her so much? I'm your cousin!"

Everyone realized Phoenix wasn't Mrs. Russell, just a random cousin.

A cousin acting like George's wife? Ridiculous!

And they had welcomed the wrong person?

It was impossible to rearrange the venue now!

The planning team felt their heads ache. They should have verified the target, but Phoenix's behavior had misled them.

George carefully checked Emma for injuries, worried she might be hurt. Emma smiled, holding his hand, "It's okay; there are so many people watching. I'm fine."

"Good," George smiled, holding her hand. "Why is your palm red?"

"Because I hit her," Emma pointed to the tearful Phoenix, whose face bore a bright red handprint.

Phoenix thought George finally cared for her and moved closer, but George only glanced at her before focusing on Emma's hand. "Did it hurt? Are you tired?"

Everyone was shocked by George's attitude.

Emma smiled, "Next time, I'll use a tool. Or you could give me some bodyguards for this kind of work."

"Good girl," George said gently, surprising everyone, including Phoenix.

This was nothing like the George they knew.

"George! She hit me, and you're just going to let it go? Aren't you afraid I'll tell Aunt Scarlett?" Phoenix threatened, knowing George was always filial and would usually comply with Scarlett's wishes.

Phoenix had used Scarlett to gain benefits from George before leaving the country. But George was no longer the same.

"Watch your attitude. This is my wife."

The security guard at the door felt his legs go weak. He had been giving a hard time to George's actual wife!
