Chapter 313 Discussion
On the other end of the line, the property manager kept apologizing, "Mrs. Russell, I'm really sorry, but Ms. Taylor has reclaimed your apartment. Since it's listed under the Russell Group, we only recognize the owner, not the tenant."
The manager's tone made it clear he looked down on Scarlett, like she was some poor relative from the sticks trying to claim property in the city. If the city relatives didn't take them in, they'd be out on the street.
"What?" Scarlett's voice shot up, almost a scream, "Emma again!"
Phoenix's face went pale as she said, "Aunt Scarlett, what's happening? What are we gonna do?"
She had a few properties herself, gifts from Scarlett. Would they be taken back too?
As if to confirm Phoenix's fears, Scarlett's phone started buzzing with a flood of messages.
[Your bank account has been frozen.]
[Your properties have been reclaimed.]
[Your stock account has been frozen.]
Scarlett's fingers shook as she swiped through the messages, "How is this possible? Emma! How dare she?"
Phoenix's phone buzzed too. She looked at it and said, "Aunt Scarlett, my accounts are frozen too! My car, my house, everything's been taken back!"
A fierce glint flashed in Scarlett's eyes, "Emma! She's trying to destroy us!"
Phoenix said with a tearful voice, "Aunt Scarlett, what are we gonna do? We have nothing left!"
Scarlett reassured her, "Don't panic, we still have George, who won't abandon us."
She pulled out her phone and dialed George's number. But the cold automated message replied, "The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable."
She tried several more times, all with the same result.
At first, Scarlett thought it was a signal issue, but after the tenth call, she finally realized she might have been blocked by George!
Her own son had blocked her!
Scarlett gripped her phone tightly, almost crushing the screen, "George! That bastard! He teamed up with Emma to plot against me!"
Phoenix was on the verge of tears from the cold.
A fierce determination flashed in Scarlett's eyes, "We're going back to the Russell Mansion! I want to see if Emma dares to kick Charles out too!"
Meanwhile, Emma had just watched Scarlett and Phoenix leave. She hadn't even returned to the bar when she saw a familiar license plate.
It was the Stuart family's car.
What were they doing here?
Since George had figured out her identity, he would have no reason not to tell the Stuart family. Her identity had already been revealed.
It was time to clear things up.
The neon lights flickered at the bar entrance, and the faint sound of music drifted out. The once noisy music now seemed to carry a hint of loneliness in the quiet night.
Sophia hurried over, and as soon as she got out of the car, she saw Emma standing in the cold wind. She quickly went back to the car and grabbed a thick wool coat, draping it over Emma's shoulders.
"It's freezing, why are you standing out here?" Sophia's concern was evident.
Emma frowned at Sophia's overly attentive behavior, feeling inexplicably irritated, but the warmth seeping into her body was undeniable.
"Emma," Sophia paused for a moment, then continued, "Oh, wait! Ms. Taylor, I need to talk to you."
"There's nothing to talk about," Emma's icy response cut through Sophia.
Sophia pleaded, "Ms. Taylor, I know I messed up before. Please, give me a chance to make things right."
Emma's gaze was calm and distant as she said, "Weren't you just calling me Emma? Why switch to Ms. Taylor now? Because you know what that name means to me! You know exactly what you did to the old me! You wronged me! So you don't dare call me that name, right?"
"Yes! I know everything! It was my fault! Emma! I know you won't forgive me, but I had to see you! To see my daughter!" Sophia was already in tears.
"Mrs. Stuart, let the past stay in the past. I don't hate you, but I can't see you as my mother anymore. Let's just leave it at that." Emma looked at Sophia's tear-streaked, disheveled face with a mocking expression but said nothing.
But Mia couldn't hold back her anger. She stepped in front of Emma and lashed out at Sophia, "You should leave! Emma deserves a mother who can discern right from wrong and possess the good sense to guide her."
"Just because she's not your daughter, you think you can suppress her talent, insult her as a homewrecker, and frame her for murder? Whatever Anna says, you believe it. Do you have no mind of your own?"
Mia's sharp accusations were like knives stabbing into Sophia's heart, but they also brought her a sense of satisfaction. Emma had endured such pain before, and Mia wouldn't let anyone who hurt Emma off the hook, including herself!
Sophia clutched her chest tightly, feeling as if an invisible hand was squeezing her heart, making it hard to breathe.
"Emma..." Her low murmur seemed to come from deep within her throat.
She had naively thought that as long as she apologized, as long as she sincerely repented, Emma would forgive her.
She had once believed that the bond of blood was unbreakable, that she was still Emma's mother. But reality was like a sharp knife, piercing her heart and shattering all her illusions.
Tears silently fell, dripping onto her hand, cold and biting, making it hard for her to stand.
Emma had built an invisible wall of ice, completely isolating her. Sophia couldn't get close, couldn't touch, and even calling her "Mom" had become a luxury.
"Emma, it's all my fault! I was really wrong." Her voice was filled with endless regret and pain.
"Enough, stop acting. No one wants to watch your performance." Mia put her arm around Emma's shoulder, turning her away, "Don't mind her; let's go back."
Emma's heart ached as she turned away from the motherly love she had longed for all her life, leaving her drained of strength and courage.
"Mia, help me." Emma said weakly.
"Okay."
But just as Emma turned, she suddenly heard a shout, "Mom!"
It was Lucas.
Sophia had kept Lucas in the car to prevent him from catching a cold, but he had been watching Emma, not wanting her to leave. He finally had a mom, and he didn't want Emma to go!
"Mom, don't go." Lucas ran out of the car, rushing towards Emma.
Sophia clung to this lifeline, "Yes, Lucas. Emma, do you know, Lucas is..."
