Chapter 370 Favor
Emma looked around, feeling a warm glow in her heart. She had never experienced George's kindness before, and now, this unexpected affection left her feeling both surprised and cherished.
"George, you're being so sweet to me; I can hardly believe it," she whispered, a shy smile playing on her lips.
George held her hand firmly, his gaze steady. "I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you."
Emma's eyes welled up again. She took a bite of her breakfast, a happy smile spreading across her face. She felt that her years of perseverance had finally paid off, and her love had finally been reciprocated.
After breakfast, neither of them mentioned returning to the hospital.
Emma linked her arm through George's, and they walked side by side, their steps slow.
"George, I'm truly enjoying this moment," Emma said with a gentle smile, her eyes full of contentment. "I used to think you were always too busy to spend time with me. Now, walking together like this brings me immense joy."
George looked down at her, his eyes filled with tenderness. "Emma, I'll spend more time with you from now on. Whatever you enjoy, I'll be there with you."
Emma blushed slightly, her voice tinged with a bit of shyness. "You've suddenly become so nice? It's a little hard for me to get used to."
George gently squeezed her hand, his tone firm. "Emma, you deserve better. From today on, I'll devote all my time and energy to you."
As they were immersed in their warm atmosphere, a burst of cheerful laughter came from ahead. A little girl was skipping towards them, followed by two familiar figures.
"Seraphine, slow down!" Sophia hurried to catch up, her eyes full of affection.
"You'll fall if you keep running like that," Henry followed closely, his tone stern but his eyes showing concern.
Emma's attention was drawn to Seraphine, who had two pigtails and rosy cheeks, looking like an adorable little angel. Emma felt a strange sense of familiarity and a surge of affection as she watched Seraphine.
"What a cute child," Emma said involuntarily, her gaze following Seraphine.
George followed her line of sight, his expression changing slightly. He also saw Sophia and Henry, his brow furrowing instinctively.
Sophia and Henry noticed them too. When Emma held George's hand, their expressions immediately became complicated. Especially Sophia, whose eyes flashed with shock and wariness.
"Emma?" Sophia walked over quickly, her gaze shifting between them, her tone questioning. "Why are you with him?"
Emma was taken aback and looked up at Sophia. She had some impression of Sophia, who was a notable figure in the jewelry industry. But beyond that, her memory of Sophia was vague.
"Mrs. Stuart?" Emma smiled politely, her tone puzzled. "Do you know me?"
Sophia frowned, her confusion deepening. She couldn't help but look at George, her tone icy. "George, what are you doing? Why is Emma with you?"
George's expression was calm, his tone carrying a hint of undeniable authority. "She's my wife. We're together. What's wrong?"
"Wife?" Sophia sneered, her eyes full of disdain. "George, don't forget how you treated her before! Do you think playing the good husband now can erase all the mistakes you made?"
Henry walked over too, his gaze coldly fixed on George. "George, we warned you to stay away from Emma. What are you trying to do? She's been hurt enough, and you still won't leave her alone?"
George's face darkened, his tone carrying a hint of coldness. "I don't need to explain anything to you. I'm not leaving, and I'm not letting you take Emma away."
Emma listened to their argument, her brow furrowing slightly.
Why couldn't she understand their conversation?
Why was Sophia so concerned about her and George?
Were they close?
Emma turned to Seraphine, and a complex emotion surged in her heart. She felt as if she had seen her somewhere before, but she couldn't remember.
"This child..." Emma whispered, her tone puzzled. "I feel like I've seen her before."
Seraphine heard Emma's words and looked up at her with confusion.
Emma didn't recognize her?
Suddenly, a sharp pain surged in Emma's mind. She clutched her head, her face turning pale instantly.
"Emma!" George was the first to support her. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Sophia and Henry were startled too. Sophia rushed forward, trying to pull Emma away from George. "George, what did you do to her again?"
Henry's face turned grim. "George, did you provoke her again?"
George frowned, his tone impatient. "You two are the ones provoking her!"
Emma's headache grew more intense, as if some memory was trying to break free from her mind. Her face was pale, her body swaying. Just when everyone thought she was about to faint, she suddenly looked up, her eyes cold and unfamiliar.
"George, let go of me," she said coldly, her tone full of indifference and disgust.
George's movements froze. He stared at Emma, his eyes full of shock. "Emma, what's wrong?"
Emma forcefully shook off his hand, stepping back, her eyes full of wariness. "Don't touch me! George! How many times do I have to tell you, I'm Michael's wife! Stop bothering me! You're really disgusting!"
George felt as if he had been struck by lightning. "Emma, what are you saying? I'm your husband."
"Stop being disgusting!" Emma interrupted him, her eyes icy. "George, I told you long ago, we're over! A proper ex-husband should be like a dead man!"
George's heart ached as he said, "Emma, have you forgotten me again?"
"Enough!" Emma cut him off coldly, turning to Sophia and Henry, her tone weary. "Mom, Dad, let's go. I don't want to see him anymore."
They exchanged a glance. Although they didn't understand why Emma reverted to normal, they quickly stood by her side and led her away from George.
George stood there, watching Emma's figure grow distant.
She had reverted to the Emma who hated him.
He returned to that lonely state where he had been rejected by her. From his emotional chasm, he looked up at the sky, resolved to find a cure for Emma.
