Chapter 277 Stealing Documents
The servants bustled around, their hearts filled with a mix of helplessness and anger. They had once thought Emma would crumble under Scarlett's oppression, but now it seemed she didn't care at all. Instead, she was asserting herself strongly in this household.
"What a bold woman," one servant muttered under their breath, not daring to say it out loud, and silently carried out Emma's orders.
Meanwhile, Atticus dialed Kara's number.
Kara was Scarlett's mole in the Russell Group to keep tabs on George. George had always been careful, so Kara hadn't had much to do. But now, after all these years, Kara finally had a task.
"Kara, Mrs. Scarlett Russell has an order. The password to Mr. Russell's office is '683634'. Go steal the bidding documents and give Mr. Russell some trouble."
"Got it." Kara's voice was filled with excitement and nervousness; she finally had something to do.
Kara hung up, her heart racing with anticipation. She quickly made her way to George's office, planning how to complete the task smoothly.
After entering the password, she slipped inside, glancing around to ensure no one noticed her. Her eyes landed on Joshua's computer.
Kara approached it, quickly entered the password, and the screen lit up. She began searching for the bidding documents, her heart pounding with tension and excitement. She had just plugged in the USB drive and was about to start copying the files when the office door swung open. To her surprise, both Joshua and George walked in at the same time.
"What are you doing?" Joshua's voice was cold, his eyes filled with suspicion. Kara's heart skipped a beat, and she turned around in a panic, only to find her path blocked by the two men.
"I was just looking around," Kara stammered, her mind racing.
"Who sent you?" Joshua demanded, his eyes narrowing.
"I'm here on Mrs. Scarlett Russell's orders," Kara said with anxiety, praying this would get her out of trouble.
George's brow furrowed slightly, instantly grasping the gravity of the situation.
He realized Scarlett had deliberately sent him away to harm Isabella.
A wave of unease washed over him, and he decided he had to go back and stop it.
"You handle this. I'm heading back," George said coldly, turning to leave.
Leaving Kara to Joshua, George quickly headed back to the Russell Mansion. He had failed to protect Emma before and lost his true love. Now, he was determined to protect Isabella!
He couldn't bear the pain of losing another loved one!
As George hurried away, Joshua was left to deal with the mess Kara had created. He quickly removed the USB drive from the computer and sent it to the tech department for a check-up.
If Kara were to steal confidential information, it could put The Russell Group in jeopardy.
Throughout the process, Joshua kept a close eye on Kara, ensuring no potential threat was left unchecked.
Back at the Russell Mansion, Emma was exhausted.
"Ms. Taylor, the guest room is ready. Would you like to rest now?" a servant asked cautiously, concern in their voice.
"I'm not going to the guest room," Emma shook her head, her eyes firm. "I'm George's wife. I should be in his bedroom."
The servants exchanged glances, feeling disgruntled but unable to defy Emma's assertiveness. Reluctantly, they led her to George's bedroom.
Emma entered George's bedroom and looked round the room.
After all these years, nothing had changed.
Emma couldn't help but feel a bit smug. Despite Anna's efforts over the years, she still hadn't become George's wife. How useless!
She lay on the bed, feeling the soft mattress and warm blankets, a wave of comfort washing over her. She closed her eyes, trying to relax, while secretly plotting her revenge against Scarlett.
Scarlett had intended to ignore Emma, to intimidate her, but Emma had made herself at home, and even finding a room to rest in!
Scarlett stormed to the bedroom door, her face cold. She kicked the door, intending to confront Isabella, but found it locked.
"Isabella, open the door!" Scarlett's voice was filled with anger as she pounded on the door, trying to get Isabella to come out.
"What are you doing in there?" she demanded, her tone threatening.
Emma lay on the bed, feeling triumphant, deliberately not responding. She knew Scarlett must be furious, and she wanted to use this opportunity for revenge.
"If you don't come out, I'll call security!" Scarlett's voice grew more severe, and the pounding intensified.
Emma remained unmoved, secretly delighted. She imagined Scarlett's anxious face outside, feeling a rush of satisfaction.
The servants watched from the side, feeling helpless and awkward. They didn't know how to handle the situation and could only wait quietly outside the door.
As time passed, Scarlett's voice grew more desperate, even threatening to call security to force the door open.
Emma didn't care. Scarlett was too concerned with her reputation to do something like that.
Scarlett had already received word that George was on his way back. She wanted to put on a show for George. She wanted him to see how brazen Isabella was, daring to enter his room without permission.
Scarlett stood at the door, pretending to shout a few more times, then fell silent. Emma found it odd.
After a while, there were hurried footsteps outside, followed by Scarlett's self-reproachful voice. "George, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I couldn't stop Isabella from entering your room."
"You mean Isabella is in my room?" George's voice had a hint of tension.
Scarlett said with a sly smile, "Yes, she insisted on going in, and I couldn't stop her!"
