Chapter 185 Uncle Clarence
Emma smiled broadly and called out, "Uncle!"
This delighted Clarence, who immediately reached into his pocket to find a gift for Emma. But having arrived in a rush, he had nothing on him and had to ask his secretary for a business card, which he then shoved into Emma's hand.
"If you ever need anything, come find me at City Hall. No one will stop you with my card!" Clarence said, exuding confidence. Emma thought he was incredibly cool.
"Thank you!" Emma replied.
"Good girl!" Clarence replied with a beaming smile and started to leave with Elizabeth. However, she stayed put.
"Uncle, I've hit it off with Isabella and want to spend a few days at Lakeside Haven with her. So, I won't go with you."
Elizabeth tugged at Clarence's sleeve, begging. He, who clearly doted on her, smiled and agreed before driving off in his luxurious car, leaving a low buzz of chatter behind.
Once Clarence left, Elizabeth was finally able to follow Emma home.
Unbeknownst to them, a camera had captured the moment Clarence and Emma shook hands outside the police station.
After Michael drove Emma and Elizabeth home, they rested for the night.
The next morning, Emma took Elizabeth to Lakeside Haven University, where Aurora had studied. Pointing to a tall laboratory building, Emma said, "This is the place. This was where Aurora fell."
"Fell?" Elizabeth sensitively picked up on the word Emma used.
"Yes, fell. Aurora was pushed off the building by Anna, the same person who tried to kill me that day," Emma stated with certainty.
Hearing this, Elizabeth looked at Emma with suspicion.
"Anna? Isn't she your enemy? I hope you're not trying to use me to get revenge." Elizabeth said.
Emma replied, "Of course not."
"Then what evidence do you have?" Elizabeth continued.
"Anna has a habit of recording videos of everyone she bullies," Emma explained. "Those videos are pornographic. If anyone resists her, she will ruin their lives. Your sister was one of her victims, and Anna has recordings of her. I managed to get those videos."
"Then why haven't you used these videos to take her down yourself?" Elizabeth asked skeptically, noting that Emma didn’t seem like someone who would hold back.
Emma helplessly replied, "Because I'm not a victim; I'm an outsider. My involvement won't have the same impact."
"Why did you choose me then?" Elizabeth still had doubts.
"It wasn't me choosing you; you were the only one who responded," Emma replied. After obtaining the videos, Emma had painstakingly contacted many victims, but most were either too traumatized or too afraid of Stuart and Russell family power to come forward. Elizabeth was the only one who, despite her limited acquaintance with Aurora, chose to seek the truth and stand against the powerful families of Lakeside Haven.
Additionally, Emma observed Elizabeth’s close relationship with Clarence, which revealed her strong family background and made Elizabeth a suitable ally against the Stuart family.
"And there's one more thing you might not know," Emma continued calmly. "When your sister fell, she didn't die immediately. After being taken to the hospital, she was still alive, but the doctors gave up on her. At that time, Anna didn't have the power to pull that off, so I don't know why the hospital let Aurora die."
Upon hearing this, Elizabeth forced a bitter smile and said, "Because Aurora had signed an organ donation agreement."
A person could only be called a "donor" once they had passed away. The organs of a compatible donor were extremely valuable, especially for someone with significant power. In that moment, Elizabeth felt a crushing pain.
Did that mean her sister could have lived, but her decision condemned her?
Elizabeth's face turned pale, and she almost collapsed. Emma quickly supported her. "It's not your fault; it's Anna's."
"Yes, it's Anna’s fault! I'll make her regret it!" Elizabeth declared, filled with resolve.
Emma handed Elizabeth the incriminating videos of Anna’s bullying. Elizabeth locked herself in her room for three days, emerging with bloodshot eyes.
"Isabella, what’s our next move?" Elizabeth asked hoarsely.
"We go public. Create a media storm," Emma replied decisively.
"What if no one pays attention?"
"They will now. While you were in your room, Anna handed us the perfect opportunity," Emma explained.
Anna had obtained the photo of Emma shaking hands with Clarence and used it to incite rumors. She spread the photo to the media, causing an immediate stir.
The initial rumors were vague, but they quickly escalated into sensational headlines.
#Scandal: Isabella Maintained by Clarence! It blared the news, with the handshake photo suggesting an inappropriate relationship. Media outlets featured quotes from "insiders" claiming that Isabella was using her relationship with Clarence for personal gain. False details were exaggerated, tarnishing Isabella’s reputation.
Meanwhile, Emma remained unfazed, enjoying a relaxing evening with a glass of wine and a phone call with Mia.
"Have you visited George in the hospital?" Mia asked.
"Not yet," Emma replied.
"Billy said he's close to regaining consciousness. A person is most vulnerable when they first wake up. It's the perfect time for you to strike. Charm him! Make him fall deeply in love with you," Mia paused for effect, "Then crush him!"
As Mia predicted, George was recuperating in the hospital. His injuries were minor, but for someone as pampered as George, the amount of blood loss and trauma he experienced was significant.
He took the time in the hospital to sort through his thoughts.
