Chapter 33 Douglas Got Kidnapped

Jerry and Olivia were floored. Emma got her ass handed to her, but she still had the guts to talk smack. But she was already strutting away, and Jerry and Olivia couldn't be bothered to chase her down, so they let it slide this time.

Olivia grumbled, "Look at that bitch Emma acting all high and mighty! Why didn't you stomp her a few more times? Anna said she's making bank by drawing design drafts now. Let's see how cocky she is with a busted hand! How's she gonna make money then?"

As night fell and the cold wind bit, Emma wrapped her coat tighter, her mind swirling with thoughts of Douglas.

She walked into the psych hospital, hoping to find some comfort with Douglas. But as she got to his room, a nurse came running out, looking pale as a ghost.

"Ms. Jones, thank God you're here!" The nurse's voice was shaky. "Douglas, he's gone!"

"What? Gone?" Emma's heart skipped a beat. "You mean he's not in his room?"

"Yeah, we just found out he's missing and we're searching the whole hospital." The nurse's voice was trembling, her eyes wide with worry.

"Call the cops, now!" Emma's heart pounded, Douglas's face flashing in her mind. "Something bad might've happened to him!"

"We've already alerted security and are checking the cameras." The nurse said quickly, "Please, try not to worry."

Emma felt like she'd been punched in the gut, tears welling up. "I can't wait, I have to find him now!"

Just then, her phone rang, an unknown number flashing on the screen. Her heart raced as she picked up.

"Emma, listen up, Douglas is with us." A low, creepy voice came through, dripping with mockery.

"Who are you? What have you done to my grandpa?" Emma's voice shook with fear.

"Relax, just listen. If you want your grandpa back safe, get a million bucks." The kidnapper's voice was ice-cold. "Tomorrow night at ten, at the spot we tell you, bring the cash, or you'll never see him again."

"Where the hell am I supposed to get a million dollars?"

"Ask your husband!"

"I'm warning you, I'll call the cops!" Emma's voice was desperate, silently praying for Douglas's safety.

"Call the cops? You think that'll help?" The kidnapper sneered. "You better do as you're told, or face the consequences."

The call ended, Emma's hand shook, her heart pounding with fear and despair. She took a deep breath, trying to calm down, thinking hard about what to do next.

"Quick, call the cops!" Emma shouted urgently, her eyes blazing with determination. "I can't let my grandpa be in danger!"

Seeing this, the nurse quickly stopped her.

"You can't call the cops!" The nurse's face was tense. "If you do, the kidnappers will kill him!"

Right, she couldn't call the cops, she couldn't risk Douglas's life.

But a million bucks? How the hell was she gonna get that kind of money?

Even though she married into the richest family in Lakeside Haven, she never got to enjoy it, ending up in a crappy situation instead.

Now, it seemed like George was her only hope.

She hurriedly called George, only to find out that she had been blocked. Her heart dropped, unable to believe he had shut her out.

"Why is this happening?" She muttered, tears glistening in her eyes.

With no other choice, she decided to go to the Jones Villa to find George, hoping he'd help.

When she got to the Jones Villa’s door, soaked from the rain, a flicker of hope sparked in her heart. She banged on the door, her voice echoing in the empty hallway, "George! Are you there? Open up!"

But there was no answer. Emma's anxiety grew, and she turned to shout at the window, "George, for the sake of our marriage, please help me this once! My grandpa's been kidnapped. Only you can save him! George, I'm begging you!"
