Chapter 348 Nursing Home
George was convinced that if he worked hard enough, Emma would forgive him and come back to him.
Phoenix's smile froze instantly when she heard that. She wanted to say more, but George was already helping Charles away without looking back, leaving only a cold silhouette behind.
Phoenix stood there, her face pale, fingers tightly gripping the hem of her shirt. But compared to George ignoring her, Phoenix was more worried about something else. "Aunt Scarlett, Mr. Charles Russell has left. What are we going to do now? Where will the money come from?"
As far as she knew, their current expenses were all from the retirement money Emma had left for Charles.
"What are you worried about? Charles has left, but we'll still be fine. Come on, I'll take you shopping. Let's splurge today!"
Phoenix was stunned for a moment, then her eyes lit up, and a smile returned to her face. "Really? Aunt Scarlett, you're so good to me!"
Scarlett sneered, "That foolish Charles thought we'd starve without him? He underestimated us. Let's go, we can buy whatever we want today, no need to worry about him!"
Phoenix immediately linked arms with Scarlett, her smile bright. "Aunt Scarlett, you're right! We don't need to care about him!"
The two headed straight to the most luxurious mall in the city. Scarlett waved her hand grandly, leading Phoenix into a top-tier luxury store, pointing at the latest bags and jewelry in the window. "Take whatever you like, we have plenty of money!"
Phoenix was so excited she almost jumped. She picked up a limited-edition handbag, her eyes full of greed. "Aunt Scarlett, this is so beautiful!"
Scarlett glanced at the price and waved her hand dismissively. "Buy it! Pick out some clothes too, let's enjoy ourselves today!"
The two of them spent lavishly in the mall, as if trying to vent all their dissatisfaction and anger through shopping. While trying on jewelry, Phoenix couldn't help but ask quietly, "Aunt Scarlett, didn't the Russell family's assets get taken away? How do you still have so much money? Did George give it to you?"
Scarlett's smile stiffened slightly at the question but quickly returned to normal. She glanced at Phoenix, her tone carrying a hint of mystery. "You don't need to worry about that. Just stick with me, and you won't lose out."
Phoenix continued, "Aunt Scarlett, just tell me! I need to know so I won't always be worried."
"Don't ask what you shouldn't. Knowing too much won't do you any good."
Scarlett's tone had become impatient.
Noticing Scarlett's firm attitude, Phoenix could only smile awkwardly, but her curiosity deepened. She thought to herself, 'The Russell family's assets are all gone. Where is Scarlett's money coming from? Does she have some secret?'
Scarlett seemed to read her mind and coldly warned, "Phoenix, remember, if you're with me, you need to listen. Don't ask what you shouldn't, don't think what you shouldn't. Otherwise, you can't handle the consequences."
Phoenix's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly nodded. "Aunt Scarlett, don't worry, I'll definitely listen to you!"
Only then did Scarlett nod in satisfaction and continue shopping with her.
However, Phoenix's mind was no longer on shopping. She secretly observed Scarlett, musing, 'It seems Scarlett has quite a few secrets. I need to find out, or how will I get a share of the benefits in the future?
A few days later, the news of Charles moving into a nursing home somehow got leaked to the media, quickly becoming the top headline. The titles were sensational: #The Fall of the Russell Family: Once a Business Giant, Now in a Nursing Home! #Charles's Lonely Old Age: The Russell Family Feud Exposed! Social media was abuzz with discussions, some expressing pity, others mocking, further confirming that the Russell family was finished.
Old rivals in the business world had mixed feelings upon seeing the news.
Although they had once fought fiercely in the business arena, seeing Charles end up like this made many feel a sense of regret. After all, Charles had been a legendary figure in the business world, admired for his wisdom and courage.
Several business moguls arrived at the nursing home, wanting to visit Charles. However, they were stopped by the staff at the entrance.
"Sorry, Mr. Russell has instructed that he won't see anyone," the staff politely refused.
"We just want to check on him, no other intentions. Can you make an exception?"
"Mr. Russell doesn't want to be disturbed. Please understand."
The moguls looked at each other and had no choice but to leave. After they left, the media swarmed in, aiming their cameras at the nursing home entrance, eager to dig up more details.
"Mr. Russell, what do you think about the current state of the Russell family?"
"Charles, why did you choose to move into a nursing home? Is it related to the family feud?"
The reporters bombarded with questions, but the nursing home remained silent, with no response. Charles stayed in his room, seemingly cut off from the outside world.
Inside his room, Charles sat by the window, holding a book, his expression calm. The noise from the reporters outside seemed not to reach him, his gaze fixed on the pages.
George entered the room and felt a pang of sadness seeing this scene.
"Grandpa, many people are outside. Don't you want to see them?"
"Why see them? They're just here for the spectacle. I've seen all I needed to see in my life, said all I needed to say. Now, I just want some peace."
"Grandpa, I'm sorry for putting you through this."
Charles waved his hand, a faint smile on his face. "George, you don't need to feel guilty. This is my choice. The future of the Russell family is in your hands. I believe you can handle everything."
"Grandpa, don't worry, I will make sure the Russell family rises again."
Charles nodded, his gaze returning to the book, as if the outside world no longer mattered to him.
Meanwhile, outside the nursing home, the reporters were about to leave when a black Rolls-Royce pulled up at the entrance.
Inside the car, Emma clutched a box of cake tightly, speaking softly to Michael beside her. "Grandpa is such a proud man. How can he endure this humiliation?"
Michael's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly. "Emma, why do you care about him? He doesn't deserve your concern."
Emma was taken aback and turned to look at Michael.
In the past, she only knew that Michael disliked the Russell family and wanted to bring them down, taking over the Russell Group, but she never knew why.
"Michael, is there some misunderstanding between you and Grandpa?"
