Chapter 109 Highest Bidder Won
"Ms. Stuart, you still interested in the 1 Crystal Street store?"
If Anna didn't buy it, she'd be giving in to Emma. Even if the store couldn't open and she lost a ton of money, she had to buy it!
Plus, with George around, she wouldn't lose out.
Anna snapped, "I said I'd buy it, so I'm buying it! Lester, let's get this contract signed."
She shot Emma a look that could kill.
"Hold up!"
Emma grabbed Lester's hand, stopping him from signing.
"Mr. Harrison, why not sell the store to me?" Emma winked. "I can help you sort out the fire safety issues."
"Am I supposed to be scared of a little fire department?" Anna scoffed.
"Just the fire department is one thing, but what about the labor department, the tax department? Can you handle all that?" Emma ticked off the departments on her fingers.
Lester went quiet; he knew he couldn't handle it.
Maybe the Russell family could deal with it, but his family would be toast.
"I'll pay more!" Anna said to Lester, but her eyes were locked on Emma.
Lester perked up.
"How much more?"
"Four hundred million dollars!"
The crowd gasped. Anna must be nuts.
"I can offer four hundred and fifty million," Emma said coolly.
Lester's eyes nearly popped out. Anna's four hundred million was already insane, and now Emma was upping the ante.
Before Lester could say anything, Anna whipped out a stack of checks and scribbled five hundred million on one, slapping it onto Lester's chest.
"Five hundred million! Right now!" Anna said, daring Emma with her eyes. "Come on, Emma, let's see you top that!"
Emma just smiled.
"Ms. Stuart, I've told you, I'm not Emma. And congrats on buying 1 Crystal Street store. I'm out."
Anna's face lit up like she'd won the lottery.
"Emma, I knew you couldn't beat me." Anna taunted, her grin widening. "Now, 1 Crystal Street store is mine!"
Emma stood there, calm as ever, not fazed by Anna's gloating.
She smiled slightly, her eyes glinting, watching the whole scene like it was a minor play.
"1 Crystal Street store is a good pick." Emma's voice had no jealousy, just a hint of admiration.
With a little trick, Emma had made the store sell for an extra two hundred million. The more people like Anna, the better.
Anna's face shifted, feeling a bit uneasy. She thought Emma would be crushed over losing the store, but she was so calm.
"What are you up to now?" Anna asked, suddenly suspicious. This was a new feeling for her when facing Emma. Emma had changed, becoming a real threat.
Emma was definitely up to something. She turned to Lester and asked, "Got any other stores for sale?"
"2 Crystal Street store is also available. I can give you a discount," Lester replied with a grin.
"I helped you make an extra two hundred million, so you should give me the store at 2 Crystal Street for free!" Emma's bold proposal left everyone stunned.
Even though 2 Crystal Street store was smaller, its prime location made it even more valuable than 1 Crystal Street store. It wasn't cheap.
Lester thought Emma was out of her mind. Before he could respond, his phone rang urgently.
"Excuse me, I need to take this call."
"Go ahead."
Lester stepped away to take the call. Emma looked at Anna with a smirk.
"People shouldn't daydream. Ms. Taylor, if you're losing it, I can call an ambulance for you," Anna said, casually admiring her nails.
"You don't think he'll give me the store?" Emma asked, "Wanna bet?"
"Why not?!"
"If Mr. Harrison agrees to give me 2 Crystal Street store, then every time you see me, you have to zip it," Emma said, lightly touching her earlobe. "I can't stand noisy people."
"Deal." Anna's voice was full of confidence, her face smug. "If Mr. Harrison refuses, you have to bow and apologize to me."
"Agreed." Emma's tone was firm, her eyes full of determination.
This bet wasn't just about the store; it was a showdown between the two. Emma was fearless because she knew she'd win.
Anna was sure she had the upper hand. She believed Lester would never give 2 Crystal Street store to Emma.
That property was worth hundreds of millions.
Just as Emma and Anna finished talking, Lester returned, sweating bullets. His eyes locked on Emma, as if he was weighing something.
The crowd held their breath, waiting for the verdict.
"Our president has decided to give you 2 Crystal Street store," Lester announced, his voice full of respect and sincerity.
Everyone was floored, their eyes glued to Emma in disbelief.
Anna's face went pale, filled with unease and rage. She couldn't believe she had lost.
"Impossible!"
"Don't speak." Emma made a shushing gesture. "I won, so you have to stay silent forever."
"I don't believe it! This can't be!" Anna's voice was desperate. She couldn't accept it; she was losing it!
Emma stepped closer, whispering in Anna's ear, "You'll never be as good as me."
Anna, in a frenzy, screamed and bolted from the scene, leaving Emma behind, smiling at the crowd and the flashing cameras.
Emma glanced at George, who stayed silent, lost in thought.
Anna suffered such humiliation, yet he still didn't defend her. Once he had something, he didn't cherish it.
He really was a jerk.
