Chapter 476 Mother and Son Reunite
"I'm so scared," Emma whispered, her voice trembling. "Without you, I might've died."
Michael gently stroked her messy hair, his touch as tender as if he were handling the most precious, delicate object. "You won't. I'll never leave you. You don't have to be afraid."
Every word he spoke brought comfort, easing the most vulnerable parts of Emma's heart. Gradually, Emma began to believe that Michael was the one truly important person in her life. As for George, he was slowly fading from her memory, becoming nothing more than a vague, unimportant shadow.
In the hospital room, the gentle sunlight streamed in, casting a warm, golden glow over the quiet space. Emma closed her eyes, feeling Michael's presence, and for the first time, she felt a profound sense of peace. It was as if the entire world had shrunk to just him, and only he could protect and save her.
This was exactly the result of the meticulous plan woven by Michael and Armando—a soul completely manipulated, yet utterly unaware. Emma had been thoroughly changed without even realizing it.
Just then, the door to the room swung open, and Sophia walked in with Lucas. Lucas was dressed in a clean white shirt, his gem-like eyes full of concern, making them shine even brighter. As soon as he entered, he anxiously looked at Emma.
"Mom, are you feeling better?" Lucas quickly walked to the bedside, his eyes filled with worry and love.
Emma glanced at him coldly. Although she couldn't bring herself to dislike him, she remembered what Anna had said to George in prison a few days ago—that Lucas was her and George's child.
She didn't want to show any kindness to Anna's child, so she appeared somewhat distant.
Emma replied, "Is there something you need?"
Sophia stepped forward gently, a bit worried. "Emma, this is Lucas. Don't you recognize him?"
"Of course I recognize him, George and Anna's son! Anna told me everything. She and George have arranged for Lucas to have a fake identity, pretending to be my son, so Anna can die in peace. And I'm supposed to take care of him as if he were my own. She really planned it well!"
Sophia was stunned, unable to believe the absurdity of what she was hearing. Her voice trembled. "Emma, what are you talking about? Lucas is your and George's biological son! That's the truth!"
Lucas's eyes widened, filled with confusion and hurt, his voice catching slightly. "Mom, I really am your son, not Anna's child. We have so many wonderful memories together. How could you not remember me?"
Emma gave a sarcastic and cold smile. "Anna and George's plan is truly ingenious. They want to use Lucas to deceive me, to soften my heart, right? This is their carefully crafted conspiracy."
Sophia was almost in tears, her voice extremely urgent. "It's not like that! We have the DNA test results. Lucas is your and George's biological son. Anna already confessed that she took Lucas from you. We are absolutely clear about his parentage!"
Emma stubbornly shook her head, her gaze firm and cold. "I don't believe it. It all seems too suspicious. I need to ask Michael, who is the only one I trust."
She slowly turned to Michael, her eyes filled with near-blind dependence and trust. "Michael, they say Lucas is my son. Is that true? Tell me. If he's my child, then why is there so much information online saying Lucas is Anna's child? Are those all fake news?"
A flicker of a complex emotion crossed Michael's eyes, but it quickly vanished, replaced by a calm expression. "This matter is indeed very complicated."
Before he could finish, Emma had already grasped his hand firmly, her eyes full of determination. "I trust you to tell me the truth. Only you are worthy of my trust."
Michael took a deep breath and recounted in detail how Anna had taken Lucas and pretended he was her child.
Emma's face became extremely complex when she heard the story. Her expression shifted between shock, anger, and confusion.
"So Lucas is my child? That means Anna was lying! I misunderstood George." Her voice started loud but gradually became softer, with the last part barely audible to Michael, only catching the name George.
Sophia keenly noticed that Emma's dependence on Michael had far exceeded normal levels.
This near-blind dependence made her feel a twinge of unease and worry. She sought a chance to speak with Emma privately to comprehend the situation, but Michael politely yet firmly refused, citing Emma's need for rest.
"Emma still needs to rest. Let's wait until she's feeling better," Michael said in a tone so gentle it was almost tender, yet beneath that gentleness lay an unyielding resolve.
Sophia increasingly felt that Michael was hiding something. The subtle sense of discord grew more apparent, and she decided to come back another day to observe the situation further.
As she prepared to leave, Lucas stood his ground, looking at Michael with a calm and determined gaze. "Can I stay to take care of Mom? I promise to be very quiet and not disturb her rest. I'll sit in the corner, ready to help with water, towels, or just quietly read. I can take care of myself."
Michael frowned, showing clear hesitation. "No, your mom needs to rest now. The hospital isn't a place for children. It's a complex environment and could affect your mom's recovery."
Lucas spoke with a maturity and reason that belied his age. "I understand. I won't cause any trouble. I just want to be near Mom, quietly supporting her. I promise not to be a disturbance."
Emma's heart softened slightly at his words. She gently said to Michael, "Let him stay. Lucas is very mature, not like other kids."
Michael hesitated, looking at Lucas's steady expression, and finally, somewhat reluctantly, agreed. "Alright, Lucas, you can stay, but you must behave. Don't run around, don't disturb other patients, and ask me if you need anything."
Sophia saw Emma relent and knew this was a perfect opportunity. She walked over to Lucas, carefully instructing him to be good and not make noise, and gave specific tips on taking care of Emma. Then she turned to leave, planning to immediately inform Henry of this significant discovery.
