Chapter 209 Betrayal
"What a joke! He treats you so well. Why would you betray him?" Olivia asked, clearly shocked.
"He treats me well? Are you serious? Do you even know who I am? Mom, I'm Emma."
As soon as she said this, Olivia and Jerry were floored. They refused to believe it. Everyone had already accepted that Isabella wasn't Emma, so why was she now insisting that she was?
Could Isabella be lying to them?
Definitely, Isabella must be lying. They wouldn't believe it!
Emma seemed to read their thoughts and said to Olivia, "Mom, remember when I was little and had a fever? You took me to the clinic, and the doctor almost gave me the wrong medication because he didn't know I was allergic to penicillin. Do you remember that?"
Emma looked at Olivia thoughtfully. Olivia's back went cold. Of course, she remembered that incident, but not because Emma almost died. It was because she had gone to the clinic to have an affair with the doctor there. They were so engrossed that they almost gave Emma the wrong medication.
No one else knew about this except them and Emma, which meant Isabella might really be Emma!
Oh my God, how did so many people not recognize her? How had they been fooled before?
Isabella and Emma looked exactly the same. They had to be the same person!
But why had Isabella hidden her identity all this time, only to reveal it now?
Jerry asked, "Why are you telling me this?"
"Because we're negotiating right now, and I need to show my sincerity. So you need to show yours too." Emma replied.
"Alright, what do you want?" Jerry asked nervously.
"You know what George did to me back then. I'm here for revenge. Our goals align—we both want George dead. I won't turn you in, but you have to let me go. If you need a witness, I won't mention you. Given our current relationship, no one would suspect we're working together. So as long as you clean up the aftermath, this will stay buried forever. If you're still worried, I can arrange for someone to hypnotize George so he completely forgets today. But hypnosis takes time and involves many people. It would be easier if you just took him out."
When two parties shared a common interest, they became tightly bound together.
Hearing Emma's words, Olivia and Jerry became excited. "Alright, we agree to work with you."
"Then let's each do our part. Don't forget to secure your alibis." Emma smirked.
Just as Isabella and Jerry were discussing their tense collaboration, the roar of several cars broke the silence.
Olivia's heart tightened as she looked up to see several black SUVs speeding toward them. The doors flew open, and several burly, black-clad bodyguards jumped out, running in their direction.
They quickly surrounded Olivia, Jerry, and Isabella, forming a tight perimeter.
George lay on the ground, battered and pale. The lead bodyguard, Lyle rushed forward, crouching to check his injuries.
"Mr. Russell!" Lyle's voice was filled with concern as he began administering first aid. They used their emergency kits to treat George's wounds, ensuring he wouldn't lose too much blood.
"Quick, to the hospital!" Lyle ordered decisively. The other bodyguards swiftly lifted George and hurried him to the SUV.
"Who are you?" Jerry's face darkened, his mind racing with suspicion.
"We're Mr. Russell's bodyguards!" Lyle replied coldly. "How dare you treat Mr. Russell like this?"
"We we were trying to save him!" Olivia stammered, too flustered to make sense.
"Save him? You're suspected of attempting to murder Mr. Russell!" Lyle only trusted his own eyes. George was severely injured, while they were all fine. How dare they claim they were saving him?
"You misunderstand us; we're really trying to save him." Emma calmly explained. "When George wakes up, you can ask him. I fell into a pit by accident, and George came to save me!"
"That's right!" Olivia quickly agreed, nodding.
Lyle found the situation bizarre. How were these three on the same side? Unable to make sense of it, he decided to take them all in!
He didn't care who was telling the truth or lying. His job was to eliminate any threat to George.
The hospital's white walls emitted a cold, sterile light. George slowly regained consciousness, his mind filled with hazy images. He felt a sharp pain in his head and struggled to open his eyes as the surroundings came into focus.
"Mr. Russell, you're finally awake!" Lyle sighed in relief.
"Where's Isabella?" George's voice was low and urgent, his eyes filled with anxiety. He was deeply worried about Isabella.
"We have her in custody," Lyle said reluctantly. "We suspect she conspired with Olivia and Jerry to kill you."
"Ridiculous! Bring Isabella to me right now, without any delay. If she's hurt even a little, you'll regret it!" George's voice was filled with anger and protectiveness. He wouldn't allow Isabella to be harmed.
"Get it, Mr. Russell." Lyle had no choice but to comply and brought Isabella in.
Soon, the door to the hospital room opened, and Emma walked in.
"George!" Emma's voice was filled with emotion, her eyes brimming with tears as she rushed to his bedside.
"Are you okay?" George asked with concern, gripping her hand tightly.
"I'm fine, just a bit scared," Emma's voice trembled. "They said I tried to kill you and locked me up. It was so dark in there!"
As Emma spoke, tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry; it's all my fault. It won't happen again, Isabella. I'm sorry I hurt you again." George's heart ached. He wanted to fire his entire security team just to make it up to Isabella.
But the last bit of rationality in his mind stopped him from acting rashly.
Emma was somewhat dissatisfied with George's verbal apology, but she couldn't show it too clearly, or it would raise suspicion.
Though she desperately wanted to tell George, "If you care about me so much and your bodyguards hurt me, then fire them!"
