Chapter 73 Want Her Dead

Emma was totally floored when George hit the deck.

She saw this wild mess of short hair in front of her. Through his wrinkled collar, she caught a glimpse of George's delicate, icy skin.

Emma was too shocked to even scream. She couldn't talk, and she sure as hell didn't have the strength to shove George off.

Could George really be this weak? Emma's mind was a whirlwind of mixed-up feelings in that stifling room.

Even though George had passed out, Emma's worry only lasted a second. She got up quick and tiptoed to the door, secretly glad to finally have a shot at getting out of this hellhole.

But just as she was about to push the door open, George snapped awake with this crazy look in his eyes. He shot up like a pissed-off beast and lunged at Emma, grabbing her wrist and twisting her around hard.

"Trying to bail on me again?" His voice was low and icy, dripping with rage.

Emma could barely breathe, feeling his grip tighten. Her throat was closing up, and everything started to blur. But she wasn't about to back down; instead, a stubborn fire lit up inside her.

"Go ahead, kill me!" Her voice was weak but had a daring edge.

George's grip got even tighter, like he wanted to snuff her out completely. Emma felt like she was suffocating, but her heart was burning with fearless defiance. She wasn't scared of dying; she almost welcomed it in this desperate moment.

"Emma, you think I won't do it? I could kill you right now to make up for Anna and Lucas!" George's voice was cold and final, like he was sealing her fate.

"Then do it!"

Just then, the hospital room door swung open, and a nurse walked in to change the meds. She gasped in horror, dropping the meds with a loud clatter.

"Stop!" the nurse yelled, rushing to pull George away.

In that split second, Emma felt his grip loosen a bit. She broke free and collapsed to the floor, gasping for air. Her heart was racing, her eyes filled with fear and anger.

The nurse quickly called for doctors and security. George was thrown off by the nurse's sudden appearance, his furious gaze shifting to her.

"Emma, don't even think about leaving me!" His voice was like a thunderclap, full of madness.

Emma lay on the ground, feeling a wave of despair and helplessness. She knew she had to get out of there and away from crazy George. The nurse tried to calm George down, but he was thrashing around like a wild animal.

In the chaos, doctors and security rushed in, but no one dared to make a move.

They exchanged nervous glances. Given George's status in Lakeside Haven, his identity was like a heavy weight on them. Despite his shocking behavior, they didn't dare to act rashly.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" George's voice was low and icy, his eyes blazing with anger. He glared at each security guard, making them shiver.

"We just want to make sure the patient's safe," one of the security guards stammered, clearly scared out of his mind.

George sneered, his eyes full of disdain. "What right do you have? Get out!"

Right then, George's phone rang, cutting through the tension.

He answered, his face going dark like he'd just heard some bad news. His fingers clenched tight, veins popping, looking even more pissed.

"I'll be right there." He hung up coldly, then shot a threatening look at Emma. "Don't even think about running, or I'll make everyone around you pay. Your life is mine; you don't get to die until you've made up for Anna and Lucas!"

George's threat hung over her like a dark cloud. Her body shook with helplessness and despair. For Douglas's ashes, for Mia, she didn't even have the right to die!

George wanted to keep her alive just to torture her for as long as possible!

After George left, the tension in the room eased a bit. The nurse and security got busy. But Emma felt suffocated by George's words.

At the end of the corridor, sunlight streamed through the windows, casting dappled shadows on the floor. Emma pushed open the door to the rooftop, the cool wind hitting her face, easing some of the weight on her heart.

Standing on the rooftop, Emma's eyes drifted to the opposite hospital building, spotting a familiar face—Sophia.

Sophia was here too. She wondered if Sophia had recovered from her surgery. Even though Sophia had treated her like crap and hated her, Emma couldn't help but want to be close to her.

But George's parting words still haunted her. If he found out she wasn't in her room, would he hurt her only friend, Mia? The fear lingered, making her hesitate to visit Sophia.

Finally, she made up her mind. Just walking around the hospital shouldn't piss George off, right?

Sophia was in the inpatient department. Emma had seen her eating in her room from a distance earlier, which meant she was doing okay. Emma didn't know what Sophia liked, so she bought a bouquet of flowers to show some goodwill.

The shops along the street were decked out with colorful decorations, the Christmas vibe getting stronger. The smell of candy and roasted meat filled the air, reminding her that Christmas was just around the corner.

Emma thought back to her childhood Christmases. Back then, she and Douglas only had each other. Life was tough, but they were happy. Douglas would scrape together some money to buy Emma decorations.

Emma pulled her coat tighter and wrapped her scarf snugly, making sure no cold wind could get in. Without Douglas, winter was really cold.
