Chapter 287 Joining the Company

"What did you just say? No way, George. Your ex-wife Emma's been dead for years! I remember that crazy woman died a horrible death, but she deserved it!"

Phoenix was fuming, convinced George was just trying to blow her off with some lie. She'd taken time off from her job in Sunterra to attend George and Emma's wedding back then.

She still remembered Emma, a stunningly beautiful woman, who looked like a siren.

The woman standing in front of her looked exactly like Emma. But Emma was supposed to be dead.

Phoenix suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. Could she be seeing a ghost?

"A ghost! A ghost!" Phoenix screamed, backing away in fear. She seemed terrified that the ghost might harm George, so she mustered the courage to run to his side, grabbing his hand and pulling him away. "George, let's go. Emma's ghost is back for revenge!"

George shook her off roughly. "What nonsense are you talking about? If you're losing it, I'll have security drag you out right now."

"I'm not crazy," Phoenix hurriedly explained. "Look, that's a ghost! She looks exactly like Emma!"

Over the years, Phoenix had been busy with her studies and social life abroad, so she hadn't kept in close contact with Scarlett.

She only knew from Scarlett that Emma had died, but she didn't know George had remarried—to a woman who looked just like Emma, named Isabella.

"I get it now," Phoenix suddenly realized. "George, you must have been deceived. Emma died so horribly; she's come back for revenge."

Phoenix didn't realize that her wild accusation was actually the truth.

Emma lowered her eyes. Even Phoenix knew how tragically she had died and that the wronged would return for vengeance.

Emma didn't seem to mind Phoenix's accusation. She walked over and took Phoenix's hand, explaining sweetly, "Phoenix, you've misunderstood, but that's okay. The more we get to know each other, the more you'll see I'm not the Emma you knew."

Phoenix was still scared, pulling her hand away and retreating. This time, she didn't care about George or the Rolls-Royce the Russell family had sent. She sprinted out of the Russell Group building, determined to leave everything behind.

Maybe it was psychological, but Phoenix felt like the Russell Group building looked ominous.

What on earth was going on? she had to find Scarlett and get to the bottom of this.

The employees watched the whole scene in stunned silence. The turn of events was beyond their expectations. Who would have thought the fake Mrs. Russell would be scared off by the real Mrs. Russell?

And for such a ridiculous reason.

They couldn't wait to go home and gossip about it with their families.

With Phoenix gone, George personally took Emma to complete her onboarding process. Since Emma was there to learn management, she wasn't placed in the familiar design department but in the administration department to better learn how to manage the entire company.

At first, the department heads reacted to Emma much like the security guards at the entrance.

But when she finished her paperwork and saw George waiting for her in the hallway, they were shocked.

"Oh my God, are you kidding? George's wife is this young?"

The HR employee holding Emma's contract was at a loss. Had he set her salary too low? Initially, he had planned to let Emma find her own desk, but now, knowing her identity, he respectfully led her to her office and personally fetched her office supplies.

George watched the entire process quietly from the side.

The office employees were all on edge, not daring to slack off. At first, they thought sharing an office with Emma would be a great opportunity to get close to her, but now that George was there too, the pressure was unbearable. They regretted it deeply.

They all wished they could transfer to another department, but they didn't dare voice this thought. Instead, they worked diligently, not even daring to lift their heads.

Just then, an employee from another department came to the administration department to submit documents that needed signatures from various leaders.

When the documents reached Emma, and she needed to sign them, George suddenly took the papers from her hand, glanced at them, and asked, "Do you need me to show you how to do this?"

Emma didn't know what he was up to, but seeing the pleased look on his face, she nodded slowly.

George placed the documents back on the desk and bent down, enveloping Emma in his arms. He pointed to the blank space at the bottom right of the document. "Sign your name here."

Emma glared at George playfully. By now, she understood his intentions. He just wanted an excuse to get close to her.

George gently held Emma's hand. "Let me help you."

Emma felt the warmth and strength of his hand, his fingers lightly brushing her wrist, conveying an indescribable emotion.

As she signed, George, whether intentionally or not, started to write "Emma" instead of "Isabella."

Realizing his mistake halfway through, he crossed out the name and wrote "Isabella" instead.

Emma gave him a meaningful look. What did this mean? Had George figured out she wasn't Isabella but Emma?

But that couldn't be. George hated Emma. If he knew she was still alive, he would surely kick her out of the Russell Group, not keep her around to watch her exact her revenge!

The pen glided over the document, leaving Isabella's name.

After signing, George still didn't let go of Emma's hand. He gazed at her warmly. "Welcome to the Russell Group, Isabella."

"Thank you. I'll do my best." Emma smiled slightly, unable to hide her joy.

Her happiness wasn't feigned; it was genuine. After all, only by getting close to the center of power could she better destroy it.

She had just told George she would do her best, but which direction her efforts would take, she didn't need to tell him.
