Chapter 319 Family Portrait
Emma stood under the tree, her eyes scanning the surroundings with a cold, detached gaze. Her heart felt like a frozen wasteland.
"Where's my child?" she asked, her voice low and emotionless, the words forced out from deep within her.
George stood behind her, pale and sweating. His wound still ached, but he pretended not to hear her question, just watching her with a mix of emotions in his eyes.
He added, "Emma, I've never lied to you."
"Never lied to me?" Emma spun around, her eyes blazing with anger. "George, how dare you say that? You've deceived me time and again, and now you dare to use our child! Do you even have a conscience?"
George's throat bobbed as if he wanted to explain, but he only managed to say softly, "Emma, please, listen to me..."
"I don't want to hear it!" Emma snapped, turning to leave. "George, I'm done with you! I never want to see you again!"
She had just taken a step when George grabbed her, pulling her back into his arms with a force that nearly lifted her off the ground.
"Emma, you can't leave!" George's grip was possessive, leaving no room for escape. "You belong to me forever. I'll never let you go!"
"Let me go!" Emma struggled desperately. "George, what makes you think you can still control me? I hate you! I wish you were dead!"
George's arms only tightened, as if he wanted to merge her into his very being. He lowered his head, his lips brushing her forehead, then slowly moving to the corner of her mouth with a hint of madness.
"George, you're insane!" Emma shouted, raising her hand to slap him hard.
At that moment, a child's voice suddenly called out from not far away, "Mommy!"
Emma froze, her whole body stiffening. She turned her head in disbelief and saw a small figure running towards her from the other side of the cherry blossom grove. The figure was so familiar, and the voice so recognizable.
Emma's pupils contracted sharply, her throat felt blocked, and breathing became difficult. This boy, could he be her child? Her mind went blank, as if struck by a heavy blow.
Tears welled up in her eyes and blurred her vision. She couldn't see the boy's face clearly, only feeling his small body approaching.
"Mommy!" The boy ran up to her, looking up with a bright smile. She reached out with trembling hands, gently touching his cheek. The sensation seemed to alleviate her hatred and pain.
Emma wiped away her tears, her vision clearing. She finally saw the boy's face clearly.
Emma turned to George in disbelief, and George nodded solemnly.
Oh my God!
Lucas was her biological child!
No wonder she liked Lucas at first sight, no wonder Anna hated Lucas so much. It all made sense now.
Lucas seemed to sense her emotions, raising his small hand to hug her leg. The warm touch made Emma's heart skip a beat. She squatted down, gently hugging Lucas, burying her face in his shoulder, her tears silently soaking his clothes.
"Lucas." Emma's voice trembled as tears streamed down her face.
Lucas threw himself into her arms, his small arms tightly hugging her neck. "Mommy, I missed you so much!" Emma's tears kept falling, and she held Lucas tightly, afraid that if she let go, he would disappear.
At some point, Sophia and Henry had also walked out of the woods, their eyes red as they watched Emma and Lucas reunite. They felt a mix of emotions.
Sophia remembered when she was first pregnant, she vowed to protect her child and ensure they grew up healthy and happy.
But she had broken that promise.
Not only had she lost her child, but she had also let Emma grow up in hardship. However, Emma was lucky; her kindness had finally been rewarded.
She had found her child.
Lucas had his mother now, but her Emma had been pushed far away by her own hands.
"Mommy, today is my birthday. You promised me a birthday present yesterday." Lucas held out his chubby little hands, his round face looking especially cute.
To him, he had only been separated from Isabella for one night, but for Emma, she had been apart from Lucas for six years.
"I've already prepared it for you." Emma smiled, pinching Lucas's cheek. "It's just too big for me to carry, so I had it sent to the house."
Lucas asked, "What is it?"
"It's a secret." Emma responded.
Lucas's anticipation grew. "Mommy, it's my birthday today. Can we go to Grandma's house to celebrate?"
Emma didn't immediately answer. She didn't want to have much contact with Sophia and Henry, but this was her first birthday with Lucas after their reunion, and she didn't want to miss it. Of course, she wanted to be part of Lucas's future growth.
Thinking of this, she gave George a deep look.
Maybe, after the birthday, she should talk to George about Lucas's custody.
Lucas's birthday, George as his father naturally couldn't miss it. No matter how much Emma disliked George, she had to pretend to be a loving couple in front of Lucas. The meal passed uneventfully.
After the meal, Sophia called a photographer to the house to take a family photo.
Emma wanted to refuse, but facing Lucas's puppy-like eyes, she couldn't refuse.
In front of the camera, all the smiles seemed so natural, as if this moment of happiness would last forever.
"Among all these people, it's just you and me." George turned his head, his eyes full of Emma. Emma's momentary astonishment was captured by the camera.
Sophia had the photographer develop and enlarge the photo, frame it, and send it over once it was ready.
However, the photographer didn't rush back to work. After leaving The Stuart Villa, he sold the photo to unscrupulous media.
The next day, the headlines were dominated by news about Emma and George.
