Chapter 140 Kidnapping
When they got to the kindergarten gate, it was just time for school to let out. Kids were streaming out, laughing and having a blast, with the sun shining warmly on their faces. But Lucas felt nothing but dread and fear.
"Lucas, go get Seraphine," Anna said in a fake sweet voice, but there was urgency in her eyes.
Lucas froze, panic washing over him. He wanted to play with Seraphine, but Anna's smile made him uneasy; he was scared she'd do something awful to Seraphine.
"I-I don't want to go," Lucas stammered.
"Why not?" Anna's tone turned icy, her eyes narrowing. "Don't you want to see Seraphine?"
"I'm just scared you'll hurt her," Lucas finally managed to say, meeting her gaze. He remembered Anna's cold, ruthless demeanor in the isolation room and couldn't imagine what she might do to Seraphine.
Anna's smile vanished, her face darkening. She leaned in close and whispered, "Lucas, if you don't do as I say, Seraphine will go through what you just did."
Lucas's heart pounded, Seraphine's innocent smile flashing in his mind. He didn't want her to get hurt, but he felt powerless against Anna's threats.
"I'll go find her," Lucas finally said, his voice almost a whisper as he lowered his head, conceding to Anna's terrifying demands.
"Good, go quickly," Anna's smile returned, like she had everything under control.
Lucas walked to the kindergarten gate and saw Seraphine with other kids, her face lit up with a bright smile. Her laughter was like the morning sun, instantly lifting Lucas's spirits. But fear quickly overshadowed it.
"Seraphine!" Lucas called out, waving at her. Though he was terrified, he knew he had to protect her.
Seraphine saw Lucas and ran over with a smile. "Lucas, why are you here?"
"Seraphine, I need to tell Ms. Parker something," Lucas's voice trembled, his eyes filled with anxiety, "I think my mom wants to hurt you!"
Seraphine remembered the last time she met Anna at the hospital, who had tried to hit her.
At that moment, Ms. Parker approached them. Lucas rushed towards her, desperation evident in his voice, "Ms. Parker, my mom wants to hurt Seraphine. Please call the police!"
At that moment, Anna walked over, her smile replaced by an angry expression. She looked at Lucas coldly, her voice low and threatening. "Lucas, what nonsense are you talking about?"
"I..." Lucas's voice trembled, unable to speak in front of Anna.
Anna, burning with anger, grabbed Lucas's wrist and pulled him aside. Her voice was low and icy. "How dare you talk nonsense here! Do you know what the consequences are?"
"Let go of me! I don't want Seraphine to get hurt!" Lucas struggled desperately, trying to keep Anna away from Seraphine.
"Go bring Seraphine over now, or you'll stay in the isolation room forever," Anna's voice was full of threat, her grip tightening to suppress Lucas's resistance.
Seraphine stood nearby, her eyes filled with worry and unease. She didn't know what was happening, but she could feel Lucas's fear and despair.
"Ms. Parker, call the police! Don't let Seraphine get near my mom!" Lucas shouted his last words before Anna dragged him away, covering his mouth.
At that moment, among the parents picking up their kids, someone recognized Anna. The familiar sting of public scorn washed over her again. Furious and humiliated, she shoved Lucas aside and stormed off.
Lucas, left behind, felt a wave of relief. He'd rather beg on the streets than stay with Anna.
With Lucas gone, Anna had to fend for herself to find George. She started showing up at the Russell Group every day, waiting for him at the entrance. Every time George walked in, she'd flash him a smile, trying to catch his eye.
But George always walked past her with a cold look, his eyes full of disgust, often having security escort her away.
Anna began stalking George at his usual spots, like coffee shops and gyms, hoping to bump into him. Whenever she saw him, she'd casually approach and try to chat.
"George, long time no see! How have you been?"
But George would barely acknowledge her, responding with a cold, dismissive stare before walking away, leaving Anna in the wake of his indifference.
Anna even tried sending messages through mutual friends, explaining her situation, hoping George would understand.
But their reactions were disappointing. They just shook their heads and sighed, indicating George wanted nothing to do with her.
Anna bombarded George with messages and calls, but each attempt met with the same silence. She was blacklisted. She changed numbers and kept calling, only to be blacklisted again.
George was making it clear. He didn't care about her anymore.
All of Anna's efforts were pointless. George had abandoned her.
Anna thought, 'Fine! George, if you can be so heartless, don't blame me for hurting Isabella!'
Anna stormed into Emma's store, ready for a confrontation.
She walked in and saw Emma busy, jealousy and anger boiling inside her. She shouted rudely, "Everyone, come see! This is the bitch who ruined my marriage! She seduced my husband so he wouldn't come home! Even my son abandoned me because of her!"
Emma looked up, surprised and disdainful, and coldly replied, "If George abandoned you, go find George. What's the point of coming to me? Am I the one stopping George from coming home?"
At that moment, a janitor passing by heard their argument and felt annoyed. Without hesitation, she splashed dirty water at Anna. Anna stood there, stunned, her face full of anger and humiliation.
"How can you treat me like this!" she shouted angrily, crying at the store entrance, her voice filled with helplessness and sadness, attracting the attention of passersby.
"This is outrageous. How can you treat a girl like this!" an angry passerby said, with others chiming in, starting to criticize Emma and the janitor.
"Exactly, a mistress still has the nerve," another passerby said indignantly.
"The stuff they sell in their store must be bad too. Her store should be shut down. We should smash their store," this passerby said with righteous indignation, not noticing the strange looks from those around him.
They were criticizing Emma, but this guy escalated the matter to smashing her store. He must be here to cause trouble on purpose.
In fact, he wasn't the only one. Many of those supporting Anna were people she had paid. She wanted to amplify her influence. If they could smash Emma's store in the chaos, it would be even better.
