Chapter 97 Critical Condition Notice
The ambulance siren was loud and urgent, ripping at George's heart.
He wanted to be with Emma, but Anna and Sophia were like two mountains in his way.
"George, you can't go!" Anna's voice was shaky but firm.
She clung to George's arm, knowing that if he left, her engagement party would be a disaster. The whole Stuart family would be the joke of Lakeside Haven!
"Let go of me!" George shouted, eyes glued to the ambulance getting farther away. It wasn't just taking Emma; it was taking his unspoken love and regret too.
Anna secretly pinched Lucas's thigh, and he immediately latched onto George's leg, his little voice breaking with sobs. "Daddy, don't go!"
Anna didn't think even Lucas could stop George.
"I won't let go!" Lucas cried, tears streaming down his face, making him look pitiful. He clung to George's leg, stopping him from leaving.
Unseen, Anna jabbed a needle into Lucas's butt.
Lucas cried out in pain. He knew it was Anna, but she had told him that bad kids get left behind.
So he had to listen to Anna and keep George there.
"George!" A stern voice cut through the chaos. Charles walked over, eyes sharp as knives, aimed right at George. "What are you standing there for?"
George looked up, startled.
"Why aren't you rushing to the hospital to be with Emma?" Charles's voice was deep and commanding, leaving no room for argument.
"But..." George glanced at Anna and Lucas, but Charles's cold stare cut him off.
"She's your wife. You have a duty to be with her!" Charles's words shook George to his core and scared Anna from using Lucas any further. "If anyone tries to stop you, I'll kick them out of the Russell family!"
"Thank you, Grandpa!" George finally nodded, emotions surging.
Charles's bodyguards restrained Anna and Lucas, pulling them aside.
George sprinted to the parking lot, one thought in his mind—he had to get to the hospital for Emma.
He ran like a madman, heart pounding with anxiety.
The car sped down the road, running red lights. Each screech of the brakes reminded him that Emma's life was on the line.
"Faster!" he yelled at the driver, urgency burning in his chest.
The driver, feeling his tension, floored the gas pedal.
But then the road ahead was blocked, and the car had to stop. George's heart sank.
Without a second thought, he jumped out and ran towards the hospital.
People on the street saw his pale face and dazed look, feeling a wave of confusion.
Running wildly, George felt his heart pounding. The world around him faded, leaving only Emma's pale face in his mind. Finally, George burst into the hospital and shoved open the emergency room door. The scene inside made his heart ache. Doctors were rushing around, nurses were scribbling notes, and the air was thick with the smell of disinfectant.
"Emma!" he yelled, his voice full of fear and desperation, hoping somehow it would wake her up.
A nurse came over. "Are you a family member of the patient?"
"I'm her husband!" George practically shouted.
"Her condition is very severe. The doctors are doing everything they can, but we need you to sign a critical condition notice." The nurse's voice was calm and professional, but it felt like a punch to George's gut.
"Critical condition?" He was stunned, his mind going blank.
"Yes, the tumor in her body has worsened significantly, and she has completely lost consciousness," the nurse said sympathetically.
"Save her! Do whatever it takes, just save her!" George's voice shook as he thought of Emma's smiling face, her love, and all her promises.
"We'll do our best, but we need your signature now," the nurse said, her eyes above the mask scrutinizing George.
"Can I see her?" George pleaded.
"Please follow me." The nurse nodded and led him to the ICU.
As he pushed open the ICU door, George's heart shattered.
Behind the thick glass, Emma lay on the hospital bed, her face pale, her body covered in tubes, looking like a flower about to wilt.
The pain was unbearable.
"Emma..." he whispered, tears streaming down his face, filled with regret and self-blame. He remembered everything she had done for him.
"I'm here with you. I won't give up on you!" He pressed his hands and face against the glass, trying to feel her warmth, but all he felt was the cold glass.
Just then, the doctor came out, explaining Emma's condition with a serious expression.
"Because she forced herself to have a child a few years ago, the tumor in her body has been worsening. Although it was controlled by medication for a while, she suffered severe abuse before her collapse, leading to almost complete organ failure. The tumor has ruptured, and her life is in danger."
The doctor added, "Even if we manage to save her, she might end up in a vegetative state. We need you to decide whether to continue the rescue."
"Save her! I will never give up on her!" George answered firmly.
Without his consent, Emma couldn't die!
"Alright, we will continue the rescue." The doctor nodded and went back into the emergency room.
George traced Emma's features through the glass, silently praying for her safety.
Tears falling, George finally saw his own heart clearly. He loved Emma deeply.
"Emma, you have to hold on. I'll always be with you, never leaving." He said softly, a confession to his heart and a promise to Emma.
