Chapter 240 A Family of Three
Emma felt the warmth and care from Michael and Seraphine, and a wave of happiness surged through her heart. Although the pain of the past couldn't be erased, the love and warmth she felt now made her incredibly happy.
"Thanks, you guys," Emma's voice trembled slightly, her eyes glistening with tears. "Having you here means the world to me."
"We're always gonna be here for you, no matter what," Michael said firmly, silently vowing to protect his family, the two most important women in his life, and ensure Emma never felt alone again.
Emma also made a silent decision. Once she settled everything at Lakeside Haven, she would return to Sunterra with Michael. They would find a small house and live happily together, ignoring the chaos of the outside world.
And no more dealing with those exhausting dramas of love and hate.
As for George, he was just a passing phase.
Once she got her revenge, George could be discarded.
Emma had been so busy lately that the three of them rarely had time to eat together, so Seraphine was incredibly happy that they could finally share a meal.
At that moment, a customer in the restaurant discreetly took a photo of the heartwarming scene and sent it to George.
George was working late at the office when he saw the photo, and his heart tightened. Seeing Emma with Michael and Seraphine made him feel a surge of jealousy and unease.
"Why is it always Michael?"
However, Emma was immersed in the warm moment with Michael and Seraphine and didn't notice her phone vibrating.
"Emma, your phone's ringing," Michael pointed out.
"It's just a spam call," Emma glanced at the screen and casually flipped her phone over, continuing her conversation with Seraphine.
George kept calling, but Emma never picked up.
As George's calls became more frequent, Emma finally had enough and blocked his number.
"Isabella, you..." George felt like he was falling into an icy abyss when he saw his calls being rejected.
Hadn't Isabella agreed to marry him? Why was she still with Michael?
He just wanted to care for her, so why was she rejecting him?
George was filled with disappointment and jealousy, his heart feeling like it was being torn apart. Each call he made was a desperate attempt to reach Isabella, but each rejection felt like a knife stabbing into his heart.
He remembered their sweet moments together, Isabella's smile, and her warm embrace. Now, she was sharing her happiness with someone else, and the feeling of being abandoned was suffocating.
George couldn't help but think, was this how Emma felt when she saw him with Anna years ago?
The actions he took years ago were now coming back to bite him, hitting him hard.
George silently endured the pain, hoping that by feeling more pain himself, he could lessen Emma's suffering.
But George's pain didn't affect Emma at all. She was enjoying a sweet dinner with Michael and Seraphine. They ordered a chocolate cake, and Seraphine was so excited she was practically bouncing in her seat. Emma carefully cut the cake for her, a happy smile on her face.
"Mom, try this cake!" Seraphine excitedly handed over a piece.
"Thank you, my sweet Seraphine," Emma said with a smile, feeling incredibly content.
"I want some too!" Michael said in a mock-serious tone, grabbing a piece of cake, making Seraphine burst into laughter.
"Dad, you're so bad!" Seraphine playfully swatted at Michael with her small hands, her face full of mock annoyance but her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"I'm just trying to make you eat more!" Michael laughed, his eyes full of affection.
On this warm evening, Emma was completely immersed in the intimate time with her family, forgetting all the outside troubles.
Meanwhile, George was in his office, filled with disappointment and unease, unable to let go. His mood was darkened, and Isabella's happiness seemed out of his reach.
No, he had to find Isabella and get some answers!
George quickly composed himself and prepared to leave.
Just as he reached the office door, Joshua stopped him. "Mr. Russell, you can't leave. We have an important international video conference starting soon, and you must attend."
"No time," George said, his eyes flashing with urgency. "You handle it."
"But the meeting is very important," Joshua tried to persuade him, but seeing George's determined expression, he finally sighed in resignation.
"Alright, I'll attend the meeting and take notes. If there are any major decisions, I'll consult you," Joshua said, shaking his head. He knew George's personality and had no choice but to agree.
"Thanks, Joshua," George said, rushing out of the office.
He drove straight to Isabella's house. Through the window, he saw the warm glow of the lights and heard Isabella and Seraphine's laughter, feeling a sharp pain in his heart.
He stood at the door, hesitating whether to knock. Isabella's laughter echoed in his ears, reminding him that her happiness had nothing to do with him. In the end, he chose to remain silent.
As the night deepened, the surrounding noise gradually subsided, leaving him alone in the cold night air.
Time passed slowly, and his mood grew heavier. His thoughts swirled in his mind, Isabella's smile, her warmth, and even her rejection, all forming a complex picture in his heart.
The night grew colder, and George sat quietly outside Isabella's door, shivering.
Despite his efforts to stay warm, the cold gripped his body like an invisible hand. His thoughts continued to churn, sometimes recalling Isabella's gentle smile, sometimes seeing Emma's image.
The conflicting emotions left him feeling confused and in pain.
"What should I do?" he whispered to himself, feeling helpless. Isabella's laughter echoed in his ears, a reminder of yesterday's warmth, while Emma's image was like a thorn, constantly reminding him of his inner struggle.
As time went on, the cold became more biting, and George's body started to stiffen. His consciousness began to blur, and his memories became jumbled. Every time he closed his eyes, Isabella's face appeared, but it was followed by her coldness and rejection, tearing at his heart.
"I can't lose her..." he murmured weakly, filled with despair. Just as he tried to stand up and knock on the door, his body gave out, and he blacked out.
A passerby found him and quickly called for an ambulance, taking him to the hospital. Throughout the process, George's consciousness was hazy, unaware that he was being rescued. His mind was filled only with thoughts of Isabella and his sense of loss, as if her image was slowly fading from his heart.
