Chapter 132 Jumping Off a Building

Anna's face was buried under layers of thick gauze.

It had been three days now. Every day, Anna would change the dressings, slather on ointment, and clean up, going through the same routine over and over. Despite her meticulous care, her face had only shown slight improvements; the stubborn pustules lingered.

In two days, it would be the 50th anniversary of the Russell Group. She couldn't show up looking like this. But if she didn't go, Isabella would definitely take advantage of it.

"I can't let that bitch Isabella steal George away! George is mine!" Anna thought.

She touched the rough gauze on her face, feeling pain not just on her skin but deep in her heart.

"George, why don't you come to see me?" she whispered to herself, her voice hoarse and shaky. Ever since she got this weird illness, she hadn't dared to leave her hospital room, with only George's image constantly haunting her mind.

George's handsome face flashed through her mind, his coldness and elegance filling her with endless longing and despair.

Anna remembered her former beauty and those days when she was the center of attention, now replaced by this ugly face. A surge of anger rose in her heart. She pounded the bedside table in fury.

"I won't let you abandon me, George!" she suddenly stood up, her eyes flashing with madness, a sinister smile appearing on her lips. No matter what it took, she had to get George's attention.

At that moment, a crazy idea flashed through her mind—jumping off the building.

She glanced at the time; at this hour every day, Sophia and Henry would come to see her.

Just then, she heard footsteps in the hallway. It was time. She slowly stood up, walked to the edge of the balcony, and looked down at the city below, the traffic like a torrent. If she jumped from here, she would surely die a horrible death.

But that wouldn't be her fate; she would live more gloriously and brilliantly than anyone else.

At that moment, the handle of the hospital room door began to turn slightly. Anna swung one leg over the balcony railing and then quietly waited for their arrival.

Sophia and Henry hurried in.

"Anna! What are you doing?" Sophia's voice rang out in the room, filled with extreme tension and anxiety. The scene before her made it hard for her to breathe.

Anna's figure swayed on the edge of the balcony, and Sophia's heart felt as if it were being torn apart, tears streaming down her face.

She couldn't imagine what she would lose if Anna really jumped. Her voice trembled, filled with helplessness and heartbreak. "Anna, don't do this! Please!"

"I'm fed up, Mom!" Anna's voice was filled with despair, her eyes glistening with tears. "My face will never get better! I'm disfigured."

"It won't be like that; the doctors can definitely cure you." Sophia tried to get closer, but every step she took made Anna move forward.

Half of Anna's body was already over the balcony, and Sophia didn't dare to get any closer.

"Even if I'm cured, George won't care about me anymore. He hasn't visited me once since I've been in the hospital. All he thinks about is that bitch Isabella!" Anna deliberately lowered her voice to a hoarse shout.

"I'll get him to come right now, just don't do anything crazy. And don't worry about Isabella; I'll make sure she gets what's coming to her!" Sophia replied.

Anna said, "But George still won't marry me."

"Don't worry, Anna. Dad and I will do whatever it takes to make him marry you!" Sophia's heart was breaking for Anna. Her tears wouldn't stop, and she silently prayed that Anna would listen to her.

"Things will get better. We will face this with you!" Sophia's voice was filled with determination and warmth, as she tried to pull Anna's heart back with love and care. A sense of satisfaction rose in Anna's heart.

'Yes, Sophia, keep treating me as your daughter and pampering me. Once a lie becomes true, it should be maintained for a lifetime. Don't worry, Sophia, I'll never tell you that Emma is your biological daughter,' Anna thought to herself.

No matter how much Sophia tried to persuade her, Anna stayed put. She wanted Sophia to force George to come and make him promise to marry her.

Henry dialed George's number, his tone urgent. "George, Anna's mood is really unstable right now. She needs you by her side. Come to the hospital quickly."

"Sorry, I don't have time," George replied coldly.

"Anna is about to jump off the building to see you! She's your fiancée; you have to come!" Henry commanded, but it seemed to have the opposite effect.

George remained silent.

"George, I'm begging you. Only you can save Anna now. Please. Anna is in so much pain right now," Sophia pleaded.

"I understand." On the other end of the line, George's voice remained indifferent.

"Come quickly. Anna is waiting for you here!" Henry raised his voice, his heart aching.

George directly hung up the phone.

Anna stood on the balcony, waiting for George to arrive. She knew this jump would be her final struggle, her last warning to George.

In the past, her threats had always worked. Since Emma died, George hadn't cared as much about her. Now, Anna was starting to have doubts.

'Will George really come? If he doesn't come, how will this end? I don't want to die,' Anna thought.

Anna's actions caught the attention of the people below.

"Look, someone is about to jump off the building!" a passerby exclaimed. People stopped in their tracks, looking up at the tall building. Some took out their phones and started recording the scene.

"It looks like a girl. Could it be a broken heart?"

"That's the hospital's inpatient building. Could it be terminal cancer, not wanting to burden her family?"

"Choosing to jump must mean she's in a lot of pain." Low murmurs of discussion spread through the crowd.

Someone tried to call the police, their voice filled with urgency. "Call the police! She might be in danger!"

Soon, several police cars arrived. The flashing lights cut through the night sky, adding a sense of urgency to the tense atmosphere. The police quickly got out of their cars, assessed the situation, and tried to keep the crowd at a distance to avoid causing more chaos.

"Please stay calm and step back!" a police officer shouted, trying to control the crowd.

Another young officer stood below the balcony, trying to communicate with Anna. "Can we talk?"
