Chapter 350 Accusation
At the hospital, the medical staff rushed Charles into the emergency room.
Emma and George waited outside, each minute dragging on forever.
Just then, staff from the nursing home arrived. They spotted Emma and quickly surrounded her, their tone accusatory. "Ms. Taylor, how could you be so irresponsible? Mr. Charles Russell is elderly, how could you just give him anything to eat?"
"Exactly! If something happens to Mr. Charles Russell, can you bear the responsibility?"
"Ms. Taylor, do you even know how fragile Mr. Charles Russell's health is? How could you be so careless?"
Emma was forced to step back under the barrage of accusations. It had been years since she had faced such a public outcry.
Seeing this, George immediately stepped in front of Emma. "Enough! My wife meant well. No one could have predicted this. The most important thing now is to wait for my Grandpa to be out of danger, not to blame her!"
The nursing home staff were intimidated by George's presence and fell silent, though their eyes still showed discontent.
Emma looked at George's back, feeling a mix of emotions.
She had thought that George would be the first to blame her for this incident. But to her surprise, George stood by her side without hesitation, trusting her.
This was something that had never happened before.
George seemed like a changed man. He gently held her hand and spoke softly, "Emma, don't blame yourself. This isn't your fault. I believe in you, and I believe Grandpa will be okay."
Just then, the emergency room door opened, and a doctor walked out, looking serious. "Who is the patient's family?"
George immediately stepped forward. "I am. How is my grandfather?"
The doctor sighed. "The patient is suffering from cyanide poisoning. It's very serious. We're doing everything we can."
George and Emma were stunned. "Cyanide poisoning? How could this happen?"
George clenched his fists, a cold glint in his eyes. "Doctor, can you determine the cause of the poisoning?"
"Preliminary assessment suggests food poisoning. Did you give him anything suspicious to eat?"
Emma suddenly remembered the cake. "I brought a cake for Grandpa. Could it be that?"
George quickly said, "Doctor, we have the cake with us. Can you test it?"
"Yes, we'll investigate it as soon as possible."
Emma looked down at her hands and couldn't help but laugh bitterly. She had been framed again.
With the evidence so clear, George would probably resort to violence against her again.
What would it be this time?
A beating? Or the silent treatment?
But the expected pain didn't come. Instead, George comforted her. "Emma, don't be afraid. I'll get to the bottom of this and won't let anyone wrong you."
Emma stared at George in shock. "George, you!"
"It was my mistake to doubt you before. It won't happen again. Emma, trust me, everything will be okay."
Their gazes locked, and within each other's eyes, they found nothing but the image of the other.
At that moment, Scarlett and Jack hurried in, their eyes immediately landing on Emma. Scarlett's first words were accusatory. "Emma, how dare you poison my dad! This is attempted murder!"
Jack's face was cold. "Emma, if anything happens to my dad, we won't let you off!"
Emma lifted her head, her eyes calm and even a bit weary. She didn't bother to argue, simply saying, "I didn't poison him. Believe it or not."
"Didn't poison him? Then how did he get poisoned? The cake you brought, didn't you buy it yourself? Emma, you want to kill him to take his inheritance! Emma, he treated you so well, how could you be so heartless?"
Emma remained silent, just staring at the emergency room door, praying that Charles would be okay.
Just then, Sophia and Henry walked down the hallway.
Sophia heard Scarlett's voice and frowned, quickly stepping forward with a sarcastic tone. "Isn't this Scarlett? Bullying my daughter again?"
Scarlett's expression changed, showing a hint of nervousness. "Sophia, what are you doing here? This is a Russell family matter; it's none of your business!"
"Scarlett, I don't care about the Russell family's issues, but I won't stand by while you bully my daughter. The Russell family is incompetent, can't recognize people, and only knows how to scam money. And now, you're even framing people?"
Scarlett's face turned livid with anger. "Sophia, stop spouting nonsense!"
Sophia didn't back down. "Scarlett, I don't want to meddle in the Russell family's affairs, but you tricked Anna out of her shares in the Stuart Group. We need to settle that score!"
"What are you talking about? What shares? I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Scarlett, stop pretending. Can you honestly say you don't have any shares in the Stuart Group? Those shares were taken from Anna by deceit; they belong to the Stuart family, and I'm here to take them back!"
"Sophia, stop slandering me! Those shares were given to me by Anna willingly, I didn't trick her!"
"It's ridiculous. Scarlett, are the Russell family planning to renege on this? This isn't over!"
Jack stepped forward, his tone threatening. "Sophia, don't push it! Those shares were given to us by Anna; the paperwork is done, so the Stuart family has no right to interfere!"
Sophia didn't back down. "Then we'll see you in court."
At that moment, the emergency room door opened again, and the doctor came out. George immediately asked, "Doctor, how is my grandfather now?"
"The patient is out of danger but still needs some time to recover. You can go in and see him, but don't disturb his rest."
George turned to Emma, speaking gently. "Emma, let's go see Grandpa."
"Okay."
Emma nodded and followed George into the emergency room. Scarlett and Jack tried to follow, but Sophia blocked them.
"Scarlett, you should stay out. Mr. Charles Russell was sent to a nursing home by you; he doesn't want to see you, so don't disturb him." Sophia paused, then added, "Or do you wish he were dead?"
Scarlett's face turned pale with rage. "Sophia, don't go too far!"
"Compared to you, Scarlett, I'm nothing. Scarlett, I'm warning you, if you bully Emma again, I won't let you off!"
