Chapter 12 The Russell Mansion

The doc shook his head, all gentle-like, and said, "Sorry, but you can't keep the baby. It's too risky for you."

Emma was sitting on the hospital bed, feeling totally lost and alone. She couldn't handle it, so she called up Mia Wilson.

Mia showed up at the hospital in no time. She rushed over to Emma, grabbed her hand tight, and said, "Emma, you gotta take care of yourself. Don't let George mess with your head. He ain't worth it."

"But I still like him," Emma's eyes filled with tears again, "And I'm pregnant. I want to keep this baby."

"Are you nuts?" Mia snapped, "You're gonna risk your life for this baby?!"

"But this baby is ours, and in the future, he..." Emma couldn't finish. There was no future with George.

Just then, her phone rang, and George's name popped up. Emma's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly answered, "George, I..."

"Do you want to embarrass the Russell family?" George barked, "Get over here now!"

Emma kept apologizing, her voice shaking, "I'm sorry, I'll be right there!"

She suddenly remembered she had to be at a birthday party at the Russell Mansion today.

Mia grabbed the phone, "What kind of husband are you? Do you know that Emma is..."

"Stop it," Emma took the phone back and quickly said into the receiver, "I'll be there soon," then hung up.

"Is he pressuring you again?" Mia fumed, "Emma, wake up. You're totally blinded by George. He doesn't care about you, his heart is with that mistress, Anna!"

"I know," Emma lowered her head, feeling helpless, "But I can't control my feelings. Mia, don't tell anyone about the tumor, especially not George."

Mia was furious, clenching her fists, saying, "Emma, stop letting him control you! You are yourself first, then a wife and a mom."

Emma nodded lightly, not sure if she really got what Mia was saying. She quickly packed her stuff, not wasting a second.

Mia had no choice but to remind Emma to take care of herself before putting her in a cab. Emma promised over and over.

Emma rushed to the Russell Mansion. The place was super fancy, showing off the owner's taste, leaving a big impression.

The birthday party was already in full swing. The garden was buzzing with laughter and chatter, with socialites and ladies in glamorous gowns, like blooming flowers. Emma, fresh from the hospital, was in gray loungewear, looking totally out of place.

She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm, and slowly walked into the hall. People turned to look at her, whispering. Emma felt a wave of unease.

As she walked past a group, a tall woman in a red dress suddenly turned around, spilling some red wine. A few drops landed on the woman's dress.

Though not super noticeable, it still pissed the woman off.

"Are you blind?" The woman glared at her, her face darkening, "Why don't you watch where you're going? So inconsiderate! How did the Russell family hire someone like you as a servant? So unprofessional!"
