Chapter 123 Catch Her

Seraphine freaked out and bolted, her tiny frame zipping down the hallway, while Anna could only manage a few steps in her high heels before getting winded.

"Stop! You little brat!" Anna yelled, wishing she could catch Seraphine and teach her a lesson.

Seraphine sprinted down the hall, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

She knew Anna was bad news. Her heart raced as she searched for a place to hide. Then she spotted an open hospital room door and dashed inside without thinking twice.

Inside, Lucas lay on the bed, looking pale and out of it.

As soon as Seraphine entered, she saw Lucas and rushed to his side.

"Seraphine?" Lucas opened his eyes a bit, confused to see her.

"Lucas, why are you in the hospital?" Seraphine asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

"Because I'm sick, I need treatment."

"That must hurt a lot. But I know a way to make it better." Seraphine leaned in and gave Lucas a big kiss on the cheek.

"My mom taught me this. A kiss makes the pain go away!" Seraphine explained, her eyes shining.

Just then, Anna burst in and saw Seraphine by Lucas's bed. She stormed forward, trying to grab Seraphine.

"You little brat, how dare you run here!" Anna yelled, reaching out.

Seraphine backed away, scared out of her mind. But she was cornered, nowhere to run.

The room was thick with tension as Anna glared at Seraphine, raising a chair high, ready to strike.

"You little brat, today you'll regret ever being born!" Anna said coldly.

Seraphine was terrified, tears welling up. Just then, a tall figure rushed in, shielding Seraphine. The chair came down hard on the person's back with a dull thud.

"What the hell are you doing?" George roared, turning around, his eyes like daggers aimed at Anna.

"George." Anna was stunned, not expecting him, her heart racing.

"If you take one more step towards her, you'll regret it!" George, like an angry lion, made Anna tremble with fear.

"What are you doing here?" Anna attempted to disguise the tremor in her voice, but was secretly freaking out.

"If I hadn't come, would you have killed Seraphine?" George said coldly.

At that moment, Emma rushed in, her heart pounding, and quickly ran to Seraphine, asking nervously, "Seraphine, are you okay?"

"Mom, I'm scared." Seraphine's voice was weak, tears finally streaming down as she threw herself into Emma's arms.

"It's okay. I'm here." Emma comforted her softly, her heart filled with pain and anger, turning her gaze to Anna. She said coldly, "Why are you doing this to my daughter?"

"I just wanted to teach her a lesson. She bumped into me!" Anna lied through her teeth.

"I didn't bump into you!" Seraphine cried, pointing at Anna. "Mom, she said she was your friend and that you were a bad person. Then she tried to hit me. I ran fast, so she couldn't catch me. Then I hid here."

Even though she was young, Seraphine explained everything clearly in just a few sentences.

"If you ever hurt her again, I won't let you off easy!" George warned Anna.

In Emma's arms, Seraphine found a sanctuary of warmth and safety, while George's unwavering gaze enveloped them in an aura of protection. It was like a warm family scene, and it stung Anna's eyes. She couldn't stand it and secretly vowed to never let them be happy.

"Isabella, you're just a shameless mistress!" Anna spat, her anger boiling over.

"Ms. Stuart, isn't it ridiculous for you to say that? Aren't you a mistress yourself?" Emma shot back.

"Get out of here! Stop embarrassing yourself!" George's voice was ice-cold.

"You betrayed me!" Anna shouted, filled with helplessness and despair. She turned and stormed out.

"Mom, I'm scared," Seraphine said, clinging to Emma.

"It's okay, honey, I'll protect you," Emma soothed her softly.

Outside the room, Anna's high heels clicked on the floor like knives. Her heart churned with anger and jealousy, her face twisted in rage. Her hands clenched into fists, nails digging into her palms.

'She just has a face like Emma's. But I'm the one who should be loved!' she screamed inwardly, her emotions tearing her apart. She couldn't understand why she couldn't win George's true affection.

Just then, Anna saw a broken glass bottle on the floor ahead. The shards of glass sparkled coldly. A cold smile curled at Anna's lips as she devised her next plan.

Spotting a nurse nearby, Anna transformed her expression into one of concern. She pretended to help the nurse clean up. Then, she "accidentally" fell, her body tilting towards the glass shards.

One foot slipped out of her high heel and landed on the shards. Drops of blood dotted the smooth floor, stark and shocking.

"It hurts, George! Come save me!" Anna cried out, her voice just loud enough to reach Lucas's room.

The nurse was stunned. They were already cleaning up, but Anna had to interfere.

Now, with her ankle twisted and her foot bleeding, Anna had successfully diverted attention to herself, adding unnecessary strain to the already busy medical staff.

The nurse put on a professional and polite smile, helping Anna to a chair.

Before she could check Anna's injury, George walked out of a nearby room.
