Chapter 191 The Gentle Trap
Emma continued, "George, you're hurt. It really breaks my heart."
George's heart tightened when he saw the tears in her eyes.
"Don't cry," George felt a surge of compassion. He reached out, gently wiping away the tears on her cheek. As his fingertips brushed her skin, Emma felt a warm touch.
Emma's tears flowed uncontrollably.
She trembled slightly, forcing a smile that only made her look more helpless. "I'm just so worried about you."
"I'm fine." George's gaze was gentle yet firm. His fingers lightly caressed her cheek, as if to soothe her soul.
"But you're hurt..." Emma's tears continued to fall, highlighting her beauty like a delicate flower swaying in the wind, fragile and tender.
"I'll recover." George murmured softly. His hand gently held hers.
Emma struggled slightly but couldn't break free from George's large hand. She cast a defiant glance at the stunned Anna standing nearby, then quickly lowered her head, her cheeks flushing slightly.
"You really don't need to worry about me." As Emma lifted her head, her eyes met George's, and a warm current seemed to flow between them.
At that moment, the air in the hospital room seemed to soften, their hearts connecting as if time had stopped for them.
George was lost in the gentle trap Emma had deliberately set. He had completely forgotten that Anna was still there, witnessing everything.
"What are you doing?" Anna's voice was as cold as a blade, shattering the tender atmosphere in the room. She stared directly at George and Emma, her heart filled with jealousy and anger.
"Ms. Stuart, you're here." Emma acted as if she had just noticed Anna, her smile vanishing instantly.
But Anna knew Emma had seen her all along.
They did it on purpose!
"Ms. Taylor, You promised you wouldn't compete with me for George! But now, you two are as close as lovers!" Anna's shrill voice was piercing.
"George and I are just..." Emma tried to explain but was cut off by Anna.
"What is there to explain!" she shouted in fury.
She couldn't bear to see George so close to another woman, especially one who looked exactly like Emma—Isabella.
"You disgust me!" She yelled at George, tears glistening in her eyes. "How can you treat her so well? Am I that unimportant to you?"
"Anna, calm down." George tried to soothe her again, but Anna had lost all reason.
"I don't want to calm down!" Anna rushed at Emma, trying to push her away.
"What are you doing!" Emma retreated in panic, a hint of feigned fear in her eyes.
At that moment, Joshua walked in and immediately pulled Anna away. "Ms. Stuart, you need to calm down!"
"Let go of me! I'm not leaving! Isabella is the one who should leave!" Anna struggled desperately but was dragged out of the room by Joshua.
Just as Joshua was about to call security to take Anna away, Emma suddenly stopped him.
"Wait, Ms. Stuart. When I was coming upstairs, I ran into a man with a scar on his face. He asked me to give this USB drive to you or George. He said it contained something important."
"A man with a scar?" Anna's heart skipped a beat, and her face turned pale.
Her mind flashed back to those unbearable memories. She had guessed what was on that USB drive. How dare Levi! She knew that even though he had escaped that day, he would come back.
She thought, 'George must never see what's on that USB drive!'
In a panic, Anna snatched the USB drive from Emma's hand, her eyes filled with terror and despair.
"This is mine! I won't let you have it!" Anna turned to flee the room, desperate to escape the shadow Levi had cast.
"Ms. Stuart, wait!" Emma's voice called from behind, but Anna ignored her, rushing out of the room as if something was chasing her.
Soon, she disappeared down the hallway.
Watching Anna's hurried departure, George fell into deep thought. Although he no longer cared about Anna, the promise he made in childhood still lingered. He didn't want anything to happen to her.
George said, "What's on that USB drive? What's wrong with Anna?"
Emma released George's hand, a mocking smile appearing on her face.
Anna truly was George's beloved woman. Even though Anna had kidnapped her, nearly killed George, and had affairs with three men simultaneously.
To this day, George still worried about her, pretending not to care but thinking only of her.
Emma thought, 'George, why doesn't Anna kill you this time? But even if you die because of her, you're probably willing.'
"Mr. Russell, seeing you safe and sound, I can rest easy." Emma stood up to leave but was pulled back into George's arms. His grip was too strong, and Emma fell onto him.
A familiar, comforting scent enveloped Emma. She almost got lost in it, but the touch of the bandage reminded her of George's injuries. Afraid of hurting him, she quickly propped herself up on the pillow.
But the pillow was too soft, and Emma's hand sank into it, bringing her face close to George's.
Their warm breaths mingled.
George's eyes lowered slightly, his possessive gaze locking onto Emma's moist lips. He pressed her nape with his hand, gently pulling her closer. Their lips were just a breath away.
"Mr. Russell, something's wrong! Mrs. Russell is here again!" Joshua burst in.
The atmosphere in the room shattered instantly.
Emma hurriedly left, but her handbag was left on the side of the bed.
George looked at the bag, his eyes deepening, then a smile tugged at his lips. He muttered to himself, "Michael, I will take Isabella."
Then George's expression changed as he looked at Joshua, who always seemed to ruin the moment.
Joshua felt like George was cursing him, but he had no proof. He stammered, "Mrs. Russell..."
